Although most on the left would not agree that fundamentalist Islam is the solution to the world's problems, they do however agree with the jihadis on those problems. The jihadis and the left speak the same language--colonialism, imperialism, Zionism, American hegemony, etc. It is not surprising that this jihadi could teach in a US university.
INN:
The terrorist behind the Stage Club in Tel Aviv over a week ago taught Middle East Studies at a University in the US before he moved to Syria.(ht: Robert Spencer)47-year-old Ramadan Shallah is the head of Islamic Jihad who was caught on tape ordering the attack by telephone from Damascus. A transcript of the call was given to US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
Shallah was a PhD student at Durham University, in England from 1985-1990, where he wrote his thesis on the merits of Islamic Banking.
Shallah then moved from Durham to the University of South Florida in Tampa, where he taught Middle Eastern studies and headed the World and Islam Studies Enterprise, a think tank affiliated with the university.
In 1995 he became the head of Islamic Jihad and is now wanted for murder by Israel.
UPDATE: Syria finally admits Shallah is a terrorist, expels him. JPOST:
Bowing to international pressure, Syria has ordered head of Hamas politburo Khaled Mashaal and Islamic Jihad leader Ramadan Shallah to leave Damascus, The Daily Telegraph reported on Sunday.via Jeff Goldstein who adds "YOU ARE DRIVING GOVERNMENTS OF THE REGION RIGHT INTO THE ARMS OF THE TERRORISTS AND THEIR ENABLERS, MR BUSH! YOUR INVASION OF IRAQ AND YOUR SO-CALLED “WAR ON TERROR” ARE THE SINGLE GREATEST GIFT YOU COULD HAVE GIVEN AL QAEDA!"Islamic Jihad was behind the March 25 suicide bombing in the Tel Aviv 'Stage' nightclub, in which five Israelis lost their lives and over 50 suffered injuries.
"They have gone, and they have told me that they have gone," Khaled Fahum, the veteran head of the PLO in Damascus, told The Telegraph.
Mashaal had left for Qatar, while Shallah was being sheltered by Hizbullah in Lebanon, he said. "The government has closed their offices, cut off their phones and shut down their email," Fahum said. "I know this from both sides."
Meanwhile, the Sunday Times reported that Israel had passed on to the US transcripts of a phone conversation in which Shallah orders the March 25 suicide bombing on Tel Aviv's beachfront promenade.
Hyscience reminds us that this is not the first time the University of South Florida had been in the news for its terrorist connections. Remember Sami Al-Arian who was indicted for his support of terrorism.
