Temperature in Hell Falling: Democracy Coming to Iraq

I'm still skeptical about the outcome of all this--no, not Juan Cole tin-foil skeptical, just cautious in my optimism--- but it seems like a step in the right direction. 79 parties, including a top Sunni Muslim party, have registered to run candidates in the upcoming Iraqi elections.

1 There will be about as much democracy in Iraq as there is in AMerica. None. Zero, Zilch. See America is in a cycle of bad judgments which will continue. Point 1.) At what point will the Iraqi people find acceptable an Iraqi government that at one time rrepresente their true, free, democratic interests while maintaining the imperial imperatives of US multinationals? Iraqis know they are colonized, Americans think they are spreading goodness, freedom, love, jesus, etc. Good luck, and for those of you who think that we really went to Iraq, not to control their oil, but to spread goodness, you really need to stop watching television and read some books. Here is a short of Authors. Thucycdides. Machivaelli. Morganthal, Carr, Quigley, Kissinger. RICH PEOPLE KILL FOR WEALTH. Ernie

4 I feel sorry for people who have such limited intelligence that they refuse to read more in depth articles and books about what is going on right now in the world. Ernie is right, Iraq will *eventually* be a catastrophic failure. We may be able to keep a base open there, sort of like we're doing in Guatenamo, but that will be about it. Eventually, we will return to simply being a trading partner (or rather a consumer) to acquire oil. If Bush really wanted to liberate the world and spread Democracy he should be spending all this money on developing alternative energy sources and dropping food from airplanes instead of 2000 lb. bombs. Merry Christmas!
