that US troops had found what they believed to be Sarin gas in Fallujah. I would caution that the report had not verified whether or not the substance was Sarin, only that troops suspected that it was.
According to NPR, Iraqi forces attached to Bravo Company found a truck that was loaded with weapons. In the truck was a briefcase with four packages containing ten vials each. The packages were labelled "Sarin-VGases" in English.
One Marine is reported as saying, "Awesome" upon the discovery of what potentially could be WMD, claiming that he now felt vindicated that the war was justified. The Marines also had intelligence that Sarin was in Fallujah and came prepared carrying gas masks.
It should be noted that the NPR report noted that the substances have not been independently analyzed yet. I was going to save this until it was confirmed, but since Glenn and James have put it out there, I figured I'd let my readers in on it too. Occasionally these reports turn out to be true, but often these early reports don't pan out.

Gung Ho! When in trouble send in the Marines as W. Wilson di in 1919 to fight the Sandanistas. (This is where the saying comes from folks, The Communist backed Sandinistas were running over Black Jack's Doggies in 1918 so Wilson sent in the Marines.)
God, Country Marine Corps
We get the job done!

You mean the terrorists in Fallujah had SArin Gas and non US troops are wearing their chemical weapons suits? Do you mean that upon invasion of US troops, no outer perimeter IEDs were fused with SArin toxin? This is truly and example of a large part of our culture trying their best to hold on to myths than people trying to ascertain facts. Invading Iraq has to be, by necessity, the right decision, because otherwise it means "free" adults were duped by their leaders, their tvs, and a really deficient ideology that disables them from seeing the actual world, the world supposed by the foundations of Western philosophy. The moral values people who think killing is a great thing. Go figure beast deception! back to the dark ages we go.
Better Dead than RED! has a whole new meaning now dont it toby keith nation?

Well, we KNOW Saddam used to make sarin, so it's not surprising that we find these remnants from time to time. We found residues on some ammunition awhile back. It's surprising we haven't found more leftovers than we have. But this stuff is mostly old enough that it's not too useful for much of anything anymore. Anyway, people have seriously overhyped sarin and many of the other so-called WMDs. Nukes are a WMD. A MOAB is a WMD, in my opinion. These things generally don't compare to either. All the scaremongering about WMDs. I wonder how many people actually have looked into what these things do. When Saddam delivered them back in the 80's, he used air power and dropped them on people who were totally ill-prepared. Even so, conventional bombs would have been just as effective in some cases, and things like MOABs and cluster bombs probably would have been a lot more so. In 2003 Saddam had no air power whatsoever, so he couldn't deliver them that way. These things are even HARDER for terrorists to deliver effectively, and they're unlikely in most cases to be as deadly as conventional bomb attacks. I'm not saying we shouldn't worry about these things, but we need to have some perspective.

If someone is going to feel vindicated over 8 vials of Sarin for invading a country then I feel vindicated Hitler was right to invade the Poles because the Polaks started the war by attacking Sovereign Germany!

Sal-
I think the Marine has every right to feel some vindication. It is more proof we are doing the right thing by returning to Iraq and finishing the job.
After all, he is the one away from his family and loved ones, fighting this war, finding one more small reaffirmation of the mission he chose to take on, and not you.
Semper Fi, Marines! We don't ask for birthday presents from our country, we give them to it....

Just wanted to put it out there that the vials found were probably soviet water test kits. The do not actually contain sarin, and can not be weaponized. They are simply detection kits used to test for the presence of sarin in water or other substances. This was often found in Kosovo, and during Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and is of no threat to US forces. Not to say that it should be considered as a potential for a threat, because they were obviously searching for something with the kits, but the kits themselves posed no threat.
