Best part of the story - and I hope it is a spin from the journalist, but Stockholm Syndrome and all that - he is left upset at the U.S. because he wasn't interviewed. I would be interested in talking to the man. Knowing how journalists work I wouldn't be surprised if this quote is twisted to communicate something that the real conversation wouldn't support.
