Mass Graves Uncovered in Iraq

Horrible. The rest of the article reveals even worse. It is to our everlasting shame that we didn't finish this war the first time around. NY Times:

Investigators have discovered several mass graves in southern Iraq that are believed to contain the bodies of people killed by Saddam Hussein's government, including one estimated to hold 5,000 bodies, Iraqi officials say.

The graves, discovered over the past three months, have not yet been dug up because of the risks posed by the continuing insurgency and the lack of qualified forensic workers, said Bakhtiar Amin, Iraq's interim human rights minister. But initial excavations have substantiated the accounts of witnesses to a number of massacres. If the estimated body counts prove correct, the new graves would be among the largest in the grim tally of mass killings that have gradually come to light since the fall of Mr. Hussein's government two years ago. At least 290 grave sites containing the remains of some 300,000 people have been found since the American invasion two years ago, Iraqi officials say.

1 So are the libs still going to say why did we invade Iraq?? Me thinks getting Saddam was a good thing.

2 Not a peep from the Libs on this thread I bet.

3 Dear Laura, President Hussein was empowered by the United States for years, including the sale of non-conventional weapons, the sharing of imagery intelligence and other assistance. There was no need to get Saddam, we already had him, as he was ours.

4 Collin, did Rusty unban you? I hope so, but if not, you're trespassing.

Posted by: Carlos at April 17, 2005 01:16 AM (8e/V4)

5 So what you're saying, Collin, is that Saddam was an evil shit and we should have got rid of him years ago? Fair enough.

6 I think the asshole is saying George Bush pulled the triggers. Same shit, over and over and over and over.

7 What he is saying is that Saddam was put, supported, and empowered by the Americans. Therefore the Americans had him. They MADE him.

8 We used Saddam against our enemies, the Iranians, just like FDR used Stalin against our enemies in WWII. Exact same thing. But the Leftists never accused us of "making" Stalin, did they? That's because Stalin was a Leftist, just like them. So they kept their seditious mouths shut. But Saddam isn't a Leftist, and that's the only difference. And that's why they feel free to accuse us of "making" him. Lefties aren't hard to figure out. Yeah, we supported Saddam against our enemies. We he turned on us, we took his ass out, just like we did the Soviets.

Posted by: Carlos at April 17, 2005 01:21 PM (8e/V4)

9 How exactly were you using Stalin? He was with Hitler first and only after Der Führer marched into Russia and betrayed him did Joseph crush the Reich. (Soviet Union crashing might have been partially your fault though, even if they screwed it up pretty bad with the massive, naturedestroying, useless projects to show the might of mother-Russia)

10 The analogy was silly indeed, A Finn. But that's because the original claim by Collin was silly. The US provided only a tiny fraction of the aid that Saddam got from countries like the Soviet Union, France and Germany. We didn't "own" Saddam at all, despite dishonest claims like Collin's.

11 Whomever says that the United States put Saddam in office is a liar. Nothing more. They know nothing about the history of Saddam. His time in prison, his rise in the Baath party. His grapping the leadership of Iraq by violence, threats from a weak leader, etc. Pure bullshit from the lying commie piece of shit Colon Babeler. What is the commie Babeler doing here anyway. Takes a real garbage head to sneak back when its been banned. No pride. No self respect.

12 Dear Greyrooster, Was President Hussein not a CIA asset when he was studying law in Egypt?

13 It is to our everlasting shame that we didn't finish this war the first time around. I've often wondered if this didn't play a significant part in GHWB's failure to win a second term. I know it pissed me off that so many paid the price in blood to rebuff Saddam, only to see him allowed to stay cozily within his borders.

14 Collin, learn the meaning of the logical fallacy "non sequitur".

15 I don't speak to traitors.

Posted by: greyrooster at April 17, 2005 08:42 PM (sqa1t)

16 Dear Robin, President Hussein took power in a coup, everyone knows that. After that unfortunate event, we empowered him through many means. He was ours until he decided to directly challenge American hegemony in the region. His belief that he would be the regional hegemon was dashed.

Posted by: Collin Baber at April 17, 2005 11:33 PM (FV4oJ)

17 Perhaps the WoMDs were the only thing that kept Hussein safe, and right after he actually did get rid of them, CIA found out, made up a report saying they didn't and Bush Junior got a reason to take out Hussein without causing too much anger towards U.S. from countries that actually mean something in world politics.

19 A Finn Nice conspiracy theory, I think you should try to seek employment with the American Democrats. It must be some sort of mental breakdown on the part of the 'dissenting voice' here that requires that all of the worlds issues be blamed on the United States. To paraphrase Homer S. The United States: the cause of and solution to all the worlds problems.

21 How is it a bad thing to claim your country had enough brains to get a good excuse instead of just barging in there and explaining afterwards?

Posted by: A Finn at April 18, 2005 08:48 AM (eFE81)

22 Hmmmmmmm. 300k dead in mass graves..... How does Collin Blame George W for this?

Posted by: Filthy Allah at April 18, 2005 09:04 AM (yBHNA)

23 Umm... If Bush Senior would have had all Iraqies transferred to Canada right before Saddam came, they would not be dead?

Posted by: A Finn at April 18, 2005 01:29 PM (lGolT)

24 Yes they would.

Posted by: greyrooster at April 18, 2005 03:45 PM (OJsiJ)

25 A FINN: I did get your ironic reply and it was a good one. Bush's fault. You got potential kid. Hope you don't loose it drinking vodka in the Army.

Posted by: greyrooster at April 18, 2005 03:48 PM (OJsiJ)

26 Collin, your claims about Saddam Hussein being "ours" remain false. You are a very dishonest person.

Posted by: Robin Roberts at April 18, 2005 08:31 PM (xauGB)

27 Dear Robin, Just ask Rummy.

Posted by: Collin Baber at April 18, 2005 10:49 PM (FV4oJ)
