Until now, such a hellish vista could only be imagined in the Third world disaster zone. But this was America yesterday - the wealthiest, most advanced country on the planet, mired in desperation, squalor and chaos as the situation in flood-ravaged New Orleans descended into a nightmare. The parish is ~90% white, and you don't hear nearly enough about the damage, the devastation, or anything else for that matter. It would seem that all news about Louisiana and storm damage is focused on New Orleans, despite the fact that there were areas that were even worse off than New Orleans. Some are still inaccessible over land.
