'Insurgents' Threaten to Use WMD in Fallujah

Note that the 'rebels' a) are led by remnants of Sadam Hussein's Army b) have chemical weapons c) are collaborating with Zarqawi's al Qaeda linked terrorist organization. The Australian:

AS the US reeled from the death of nine marines in Iraq at the weekend, insurgents in Fallujah claimed to have obtained chemical weapons and threatened to use them in any battle for control of the rebel stronghold.

Rebel commanders said chemicals such as cyanide had been added to mortar rounds and missiles that would be deployed against coalition troops reported to be preparing for a major assault on the town west of Baghdad.

A military committee made up of former officers in Saddam Hussein's army, including experts on chemicals and guerrilla warfare, is said to have been organising forces in Fallujah and planning tactics.

The committee is understood to include members of all the main insurgent groups, including that of Iraq's most wanted man, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the terrorist leader behind the beheading of several foreign hostages and a string of car-bomb attacks.

Brian at the Command Post wishes to avoid using the term 'WMD', but I don't mind one bit. The insurgents claim to have chemicals 'such as cyanide'--not just cyanide. Cyanide is representative of a broader class of chemicals they claim to have in their possesion.

1 Meh... like throwing barrels into the ocean around a port... Now the stance has to assume a mine threat... If the military takes this threat seriously, it will have to adjust its posture and MOPP level accordingly, buying more time for the scumbags...

2 Rusty, They are probably bullshitting about the WMD, but if it is Cyanide, that is probably one of the best chemical agents to face. Cyanide attacks the hemoglobin in Red blood cell's ability to carry oxygen. Sounds bad, huh? Well, it is, but not as bad as a blister agent (mustard gas) or nerve agent (sarin/vx). Blister/nerve agents need only to come in contact with exposed skin to have a deleterious effect. Cyanide must be inhaled to work, and even if you do inhale it, if you can mask up quickly and survive the initial effects, you'll pretty much survive without any lasting damage aside from the actual effects of hypoxia. BTW I am a SEAL corpsman not a physician, but I feel pretty confident about this analysis. Froggy

3 Cool analysis. I would only reemphasize that the reports single out cyanide as only an example of the types of chemicals the bad guys have. Until we go in there, we have no idea what we're facing.

4 Let em. Our troops can handle that without too much problem. The other side of the coin is that, they won't show nearly as much mercy on the enemy if chemical weapons are employed against them.

5 So what? Suit up the troops, mask them, and then lets get on with vaporizing the maggots. Enough screwing around already.

6 Aha, so THAT'S where those WMD's are!!!

7 Mask them up, suit them up. Then we go back to the question of all the innocent civilians. Though we really know they have been supporting the terrorists all along. Can you imagine having to listen to some of the liberal set on this Blog. If the ISLAMOFACISTS killers use the WMD that the Kerry supports say doesn't exist will it still be Bush's fault? YOU BET!

8 I wonder if the Fallujans consider a MOAB an appropriate response to their WMD's. I do ....... perhaps that would clarify the infidel issue. It would save many American lives in Iraq. Dim
