30 al Qaeda / Ansar al-Islam Terrorists Captured

The Australian:

IRAQI police have seized 30 men linked to terror groups and involved in three beheadings, the rape and murder of three women, and the separate murders of 40 other people, General Adel Molan said today.

Some of the men belonged to al-Qaeda and some to its sister group Ansar al-Islam and were caught in Baladruz, 60km north-east of Baghdad, the general said.

He said police had divided the detainees into three groups: the first was wanted for beheading three people; and the second for the separate murders of 40 people, including some Diyala provincial council members and Iraqi security forces.

The third group raped and then murdered three women, Gen Molan said.

Related. Also related. The good news, it just does not end.

1 Hate to sound brutal here, but capturing is not going to do the trick. It's not like WWII, when the Nazis gave up and became respectable Germans. These people, when released, will be up to their old tricks in some other half-assed, terrorist organization with a new name. They need to be killed, not captured.

2 Except for the fact that with every capture, more information is learned regarding the network. If there's one decent-level Al Qaeda operative there, you'll likely see more arrests in the coming weeks/months. And every capture weakens the network that much more.

3 I think we can be reasonably sure that these people will be dealt with by the Iraqis. Remember that these people were captured by the Iraqi Police. Rest assured that the Iraqi Police have suffered at the hands of these terrorists and will deal with these people the way they should be dealt with. Mercy may not be the word of the day in this case. 4 Very good point, Venom. Okay, we'll let the talkative ones live.

5 Chris--I suspect that you are right!

6 Rest assured they were captured by Iraqi POLICE, and will be dealt with by Iraqi police who have been hurt many times by these terrorists. They will not be taken lightly. There is a chance they may even be beheaded themselves.
