(Norman, OK) Norman, Oklahoma, police confirmed in a press conference today that JOEL HENRY HINRICHS III was being investigated because he had acted suspiciously while attempting to buy ammonium nitrate fertilizer at an area store.
Why is this suspicious? Because ammonium nitrate plus + diesel fuel = Oklahoma City Murrah Federal Building bomb!
So, an off duty cop thought the conversation he heard between Hinrichs and the store owner was suspicious enough to consult the bomb squad and start an investigation? Interesting, indeed.
Of course, Hinrichs blew himself up before the investigation could be completed. I wonder who the officer would have called next once he found out that Hinrichs roommate was a Pakistani national, jihad material was in his apartment, and neighbors claim Hinrichs attended a local mosque?
Still almost no MSM coverage of this story.

Press Rule #1 – If it bleeds, it leads.
Point – no one bleed except for the bomber/suicidal maniac
No sense in covering a story that doesnÂ’t follow rule #1.
Case in point, Israel. Notice how little press attention there is when a lone suicide bomber explodes, but no one is hurt vs when they do it in a crowded shopping center with mass casualties. Please reference rule #1 for the explanation of this hypothesis.
No national press attention (but lots of local press) because it does not have national implications (yet).

Well, I have another take on why the MSM doesn't want to report this story. It's all about the Muslims. We don't want to report anything bad about Muslims, because, you know, the people in this country might not understand, and might take the law into their own hands, and gosh, you know, God forbid anything like this happening.
Until this country throws off the yoke of political correctness we will be unable to respond to terror in a meaningful way. The media should be in-depth reporting this story with no other motive than that the truth come out about this guy, the Muslim Students Association, and the mosque in Norman. The people have a right to know, but the press is letting us down. Is there one reporter out there in the MSM who will take their job seriously. Please, someone?

You have also got to wonder why any college student would need a lot of fertilizer. I went though for years of college and never once had any need for fertilizer. This guy lived in an apartment - what the h*ll did he need to fertilize?

jesusland joe has an interesting angle on why the msm has ignored this story.
My take is that the saudis, with their obscene oil wealth, have the media in their pocket, along with some of the government, and universities.

When did Justin Timberlake grow a full beard? Come to think of it, when did he reach puberty so he could grow a full beard?

Sorry for not reading Leopold's comment above before posting my comment about Hanks. However I put Hanks and the bomber's pictures side-by-side and it is uncanny.

Cruiser: Hit the nail on the head. People who live in apartments have no need for Ammonium Nitrate fertizer. The little shit was probably buggered by his muslim roommate and liked it. Of course, in liquid, they could be using it to make crystal meth. I used to think my tank was leaking until the sheriff informed me as to what drug heads used it for. Moved tank closer to the dogs and leak stopped.

Greyrooster is on to something here, the MSM seems to ignore the massive amounts of buggery in the Muslim world. Just another sign of their demonic possession. This kid is just another white boy who wondered over to the dark side, and was sucked into a world of lies and deceit - and yes most likely buggery. Satan is at work here, al Qaeda is a Satanic cult.

I think the focus on the roommate's religion is making it too easy for the PC crowd and MSM to blow all of this off as a paranoid racist witchhunt. I think the more useful question at this point is how the roommate could have been unaware of the apparently sizeable cache of explosives in the apartment. I went to OU and have been in those apartments. They ain't that big.
And I don't see how the attempted fertilizer purchase does anything to further the terrorist angle. Sure it's interesting, but we already knew he was planning to blow something up. It's not like ammonium nitrate is some kind of terrorist trade secret these days.
Unless you think it's just a little too convenient that an off-duty policeman just happened to be standing a few feet away. The clerk seemed a little evasive in the interview, and I don't remember him mentioning the off-duty cop. I thought he also said the first contact he had with anybody was when Channel 9 showed up. Or maybe it was the FBI. I'm too burned out on all this to go back and watch the video.
Maybe we could ask the cop for clarification. Oh wait, they haven't released his name.

While I've got the tinfoil on:
Hinrichs was a National Merit Scholar. OU prides themselves on having more NMS's per capita than any other university. Or maybe any other public university. Whole bunch of them, regardless. Every season before one of the games, they trot them all out on the field so everybody can give them a golf clap.
I can't vouch for this because I read it on a Texas Longhorn message board, but it was stated that this year's NMS celebration happened before the KSU game. I wasn't at the game, and I don't know anybody who was at the game who was paying attention. I have to believe that if it were true, somebody else would have picked up on it by now. Can anybody confirm or deny?
If it's true that he tried to get in the game (still unsubstantiated) and that the above is true (even more unsubstantiated), any idea what he might have had in mind?
//not trying to spread rumors or anything

Anonymous Coward: Who knows what to believe. You just average the info and apply some common sense. My common sense tells me this lonely little nerd received the attention he desired from the wrong people. Look at him. Is that a picture of a complete happy person? Think about it. Columbine all over? That is why I propose we institute nerd colleges. Some just don't fit in. They still deserve a good life and happiness. They have brains and can contribute. By looks, personality, background they are condemed to the background. Some become victims to be used by anyone who will pay attention to them. Looks like the muslim dogs have discovered this. I do believe the muslims pigs got to him.
