Lodi Terror Suspect Makes Bail

It's important to note the details of the original minor charge of 'lying on an immigration application' officially levied against Hamid and Umer Hayat. Yes, they only 'lied on an immigration application'....of course, the lie they told was that they were not al Qaeda supporters! Kind of seems like an important detail.

The good news is that the younger of the two, Hamid Hayat, was charged with material support to terrorists this week. The bad news is that the father, Umer Hayat, was given bail.

I dunno, call me paranoid, but there's just something about an Imam with clear al Qaeda sympathies walking the streets that makes me uncomfortable.

About That FDNY Muslim Moonbat Who Questions Whether The 19 (Muslim) Hijackers Were Responsible For 9/11 - Does his school have a connection to a 'charitable front' for the Palestinian Islamic Jihad? (UPDATED)

Has the FDNY hired a Muslim chaplain that comes from an Islamic school with an association with the Al-Ihsan society (AKA the Elehssan Charitable Society) that has been designated by the U.S. Department of the Treasury as a "charitable front" for the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), a terrorist organization based in Damascus, Syria?

The Muslim moonbat was one of several imams recommended for the chaplain's job by the Islamic Society for the Fire Department.

Michelle Malkin writes that just when we think things are getting better in New York City, "politically correct insanity rears its monstrous head again." In pointing to Tom Bevan at Real Clear Politics, she notes Tom's flaging of today's Newsday story about the new Islamist-sympathizing, nutball Muslim chaplain hired by none other than the New York Fire Department. We need to stand-up in solidarity with Michelle's suggestion: "Don't let up on the FDNY commissioner, though. Someone made a boneheaded decision to hire a tinfoil Islamist like Habib in the first place. Make sure it doesn't happen again!"

An imam slated to be sworn in Friday as the second Muslim chaplain in Fire Department history said he questioned whether 19 hijackers were responsible for the Sept. 11 terror attacks, and suggested a broader conspiracy may have brought down the Twin Towers and killed more than 2,700 people.
In a telephone interview Thursday, Imam Intikab Habib, 30, a native of Guyana who studied Islam in Saudi Arabia, said he doubted the United States government's official story blaming 19 hijackers associated with al-Quaida and Osama bin Laden.
"I as an individual don't know who did the attacks," said Habib, 30, a soft-spoken man who immigrated to New York in July 2000 after spending six years in Saudi Arabia getting a degree in Islamic theology and law. "There are so many conflicting reports about it. I don't believe it was 19 ... hijackers who did those attacks."
Asked to elaborate on his reasons for doubting that story, he talked about video and news reports widely disseminated in the Muslim community.
"I've heard professionals say that nowhere ever in history did a steel building come down with fire alone," he said. "It takes two or three weeks to demolish a building like that. But it was pulled down in a couple of hours. Was it 19 hijackers who brought it down, or was it a conspiracy?

3 Just to be clear, Habib didn't get the job. He resigned before the FDNY could install him as the chaplain. The FDNY considers Habib's views to be political in nature and outside the realm of what could be asked in the interview process. What is troubling is that this guy is a teacher at the Islamic school, indoctrinating a generation of impressionable kids into thinking that the government did 9/11 and that Islamic terrorists had nothing to do with it (wink wink nudge nudge say no more).

The cheap spray on fire material used in buildings is inadaquate and everyone in the industry knows it. The heat from thousand of gallons of jet fuel caused the I beams to bend and give way. Then the weight of the upper floors falling caused the lower floors to colapse. This is not hard for anyone trained in structural engineering to understand. More bullshit. Nothing more. How stupid can a liberal be?

9 The part of the story that grabs my attention is the throwaway line about how he cites "video and news reports widely disseminted in the Muslim community" as the sources of his conspiracy info. Most Americans simply don't understand this ideology and how it propagates itself. That's why it's easier for normally intelligent people to think that Islamic extremeism and Jihad are merely some kind of understandable response to outside aggression. Even the more knowledgeble study-thy-enemy hawkish types are only vaguely aware of the martyr videos, snuff flicks, pamphlets/literature, fatwahs, Friday sermons, etc. Sunlight is definitely the best disinfectant and I wish that the media had pressed Habib on the issue of these videos. I know that no professional journalist would dare follow up about the specific nature of this news that is "widely disseminated among Muslims." I wish some enterprising blogger would pursue this. We need to dig up copies of these specific propaganda videos and make them available to the public so that we know how important the propaganda/hate ideological machine is to the Al-Qaida/Islamist Jihad. They are distributing propaganda videos and pamphlets across the world. You can see a few of them on the internet featuring everything from Chechnya, Kashmir, Gaza, Phillippeans, Iraq, Afghanistan, Thailand, Malaysia, etc. - anywhere where Muslims are in conflict with non-Muslims (Muslim outrage tends to quiet down when there's a conflict between different groups of Muslims, like in Darfur or in Kurdistan, etc.). All news about terror-cell arrests in Europe and around the world will mention the discovery of Islamic literature, etc. Every once in a while some article will talk about how OBL speeches are available in Arabic, Farsi, Urdu, etc. down at the corner shop in the local Muslim enclave of any major city in the world. Seems to me that this Jihad pr0n is a critical part of what we're fighting.

Judge Gives Terrorists New Weapon: More Abu Ghraib Photos to be Released

In a time of war, the first and primary duty of the government of the United States is and ought to be TOTAL VICTORY. Any agent of the government who intentionally gives the enemy a tool to fight us with has betrayed the public trust and must be removed. U.S. District Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein ought to be impeached and his order ignored.

Saying the United States ``does not surrender to blackmail,'' a judge ruled Thursday that pictures of detainee abuse at Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison must be released over government claims that they could damage America's image.
U.S. District Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein ordered the release of certain pictures in a 50-page decision that said terrorists in Iraq and Afghanistan have proven they ``do not need pretexts for their barbarism.''

What a total idiot. Of course they don't need pretext for their barbarism, but what they do need is pretext for the fundamentialists to support their barbarism. What they do need is pretext to recruit the true believer into the ranks.

Terrorists do not kill because they like to kill. Terrorists kill because they believe they are doing the right thing. Thank you judge, thank you ACLU, you are doing the terrorists job of 'winning the hearts and minds' of the world for them and are helping recruit hundreds and thousands of more terrorists to kill your fellow citizens!

The original pictures were all over TV, magazines, and now a court of law has held those that performed it accountable. What will these pictures do for us, can you please enlighten us futher? 8 I don't know about anyone else, but I am not condoning torture of any kind, but dammit, there is no further need for these photographs. The ones guilty of these crimes have been punished or in the process of being punished. I would like one of you lefties to give me one reason to release the photos that is more important than the lives of our soldiers. Are you lefties saying that these photos will provide additional evidence that will cause someone new to be accused of further torture? If so, I will consider that to be a sufficient reason to release the photos. If not, and this is nothing but an attempt to embarrass Bush, then that is not a good reason. Dozens of people were murdered at the NO Convention Center. Babies had their throats slit at the Superdome. Hundreds of rapes and assaults occurred at the Superdome and Convention Center. Two babies were raped at the Superdome. Black people were having to resort to canabalism to survive. When the three tractor trailer trucks arrived at the Superdome to pick up all the dead bodies, only 6 were found. Four people died of natural causes, 1 committed suicide, and 1 was probably murdered. Hardly the scene discribed in the media and on the Lefty blogs. I am calling for an investigation of the news media, and why they printed lies that they made no attempt to verify. My point is this. It is highly unlikely that you Lefties are in any way concerned about the soldiers or prisoners at Abu Ghraib, but your more likely motive is to embarrass the US military and Bush. 16 The problem that all of you seem to be forgetting is that in this country we have laws. Laws are what supposedly keep society running smoothly. One of those laws is the Freedom of Information Act. There are 9 exemptions stating what can NOT be released under the FOIA. The only one that comes close would be exemption # 1 "Those documents properly classified as secret in the interest of national defense or foreign policy;". I'm assuming that the judge would not have released these photos and documents if they had been "properly classified as secret", and I'm sure there are those of you who would argue that point with me. However, the fact is a federal judge (who happened to be a Clinton appointee, big deal folks), found that this wasn't the case. Therefore the government has a responsibility to make the information free to the American public. It really is a shame that the opposition will likely get their hands on it and use it against the US, but the fact is that these people don't need evidence. These people will find ways to propagandize regardless of concrete evidence of a US SNAFU (which this most certainly was). And as for your "Torture vs. torture" segment, conservative pundit Bill O'Reilly loves to tell his guests that one can not justify and bad behavior simply by pointing to worse behavior. This is one example (of decidedly few) that I would urge you to listen to him. I don't want to hear about or see any American soldier getting killed or beheaded or tortured because of these photos, but then perhaps the Army should have delevoped clearer protocols on what was acceptable prisoner handling, which according to this document released on the ACLU site (at http://action.aclu.org/torturefoia/released/091505/) the Army (to be correct I should say the Navy, since these were Marines, but when I say Army, I mean Armed Forces in general) did not do. And the simple fact is, the American public has the right to know, and it would be wrong for our government to deny us that right based upon the all-too-transparent notion of fear for our soldiers, when the time to think about the soldiers' lives was two years ago before this whole mess got started.

Cindy Sheehan Busted

The good news just keeps on coming today.

FOXNEWS:

Police warned them three times that they were breaking the law by failing to move along. Then, officers began making arrests.

Obviously Cindy is trying to play for sympathy here and got herself arrested on purpose.

Updated from Yahoo news.

Others who were arrested also cooperated with police. Sgt. Scott Fear, spokesman for the U.S. Park Police, said they would be charged with demonstrating without a permit, which is a misdemeanor. Park Police Sgt. L.J. McNally said Sheehan and the others would be taken to a processing center where they would be fingerprinted and photographed, then given a ticket and released. The process would take several hours, he said.

While the antiwar movement claims their only concern is for the troops, any one who listens to their rhetoric for more than two minutes understands that they have an underlying agenda. These people hate the U.S. with as much passion as Osoma bin Laden. Below are a number of photos from today's rally in Washington, D.C.

I was all set to do a Blog Sabbath caption contest when I noticed some of the signs at the Mother Saint Cindy Sheehan protest rally which can't be ignored. Notice that Sheehan wants 'the truth'. The truth about what? 9/11? Check out the sign in the background.

General who is also part of www.impeachbush.org. Keep in mind that there are several groups in D.C. today and they are all intermingling with each other. I also find it interesting that Thanos35's response to Cindy Sheehan is that of a violent nature. Should I be surprised or is this what I should expect from conservatives who say they believe in moral values? Making an exception diminishes any claim you could have to moral superiority. Some might even call it un-American to use violence in opposition of someone else's civil right to free speech. Of course I could just be making an assumption that Thanos35 is a conservative. I do not agree with everything on the liberal side of the fence nor do I agree with everything on the conservative side but I do agree whole-heartedly with the 1st Amendment and that is stronger than any political ideology. I support Cindy Sheehan and her cause. I also support your rights be here and express your opposition to Cindy even if I don't agree with you. Violence would never be a solution I would consider to express opposition but I guess that's just the Christian in me. 15 Well, I watched an hour or two of the rally, and then intermittently throughout the day(during commercials), and I have to say this rally is the biggest circle jerk I've ever seen.(let's just reinforce and repeat what each other says, never mind the facts) Not even enough people to drown out the gal with the bongos, although I have to admit that the earlier crowd was bigger. The thing that amazed me was that they claimed 250K people in attendance, and to even the most casual eye there were nowhere NEAR that many; perhaps 25%-40% of their claim. The aerial shots will confirm this, although I have no idea where to find this online; the ones they showed on C-span were enough for me. Sheesh!

As for Ramsey Clark, I simply used him as an example becasue it directly related to my point. It seems that the original topic has been forgotten. Does anyone remember the pictures at the top of this page and the connection that Dr. Shackleford tries to draw based on random signs being held by random people? The Clark reference was simply to illustrate the fact that Cindy Sheehan was not the only person/group involved in the protests. I used Clark's sight because it directly related to the signs in the pictures and the general concensus of his site. As for defending Cindy Sheehans 1st Amendment rights...well, I see how I could have worded that better. Let me be more clear. I do not believe it's possible to defend an individuals 1st Amendment rights becasue it isn't a right that belongs to any individuals. It is a right that belongs to all people equally as individuals. That is why I also said that I support your rights to express your opposing view. I also stated that the 1st Amendment is greater than any political ideology. I have read through the Code Pink website (one of Cindy's main support groups) and one thing that struck me is that they say they support the troops, yet the top banner slogan they suggest is "Mothers don't let your babies grow up to be killers." That doesn't sound very supportive of the troops. The protesting they do outside Walter Reed Army Hospital is not supportive either. It is only demoralizing and demeaning for the soldiers recovering there. I will also admit that I do not like the liberal point of view and often feel that I am getting whiplash from the the changes they make in their arguments. I do not claim that Bush is perfect, no one is, but I certainly trust him more than what I've seen, read, and researched about the liberals.

36 Sean, we know that Sheehan's group wasn't the only one there. The point you missed was that the media portrayed it as solely an "anit-war" protest. They were very careful to leave out much commentary to the contrary. Read some of the newspapers and look at their carefully cropped photos to see that. The pictures we see on the net are what told the truth. The point is that Sheehan's group, whatever their cause may be, does not seem to be troubled by the fact that they share a stage with anyone as long as it gives the appearance of their numbers being greater than they are.

61 Jesusland Joe, Denomination? I guess I never thought about joining a denomination. I've been to many churches, Christian and non-Christian and I have determined that I don't necessarily fit into any set of church doctrine or dogma. The reason for this is simple. As I grow older my understaninding of God and the Bible changes so I don't feel I can hold myself to any specific religion. I am a Christian who believes that God, the Father, is the Creator of all things. That he sent his only begotten Son, Jesus, to die for the sins of all mankind and that He will return one day to deliver us up into his Kingdom. The Nicene Creed pretty much sums it up for most Christians. http://www.creeds.net/ancient/nicene.htm If I had said Catholic, Methodist, AG, Four Square, Baptist, Presbyterian, etc. none of those would have really helped you to understand where I was personally coming from. I am one individual and no one does my thinking for me. I understand that a great many people simply follow what the preacher says. If that works for them then so be it. That isn't me. My relationship with God, Yahweh, Jehovah, Elohim (God has many names) is between He and I and not with any denomination. The only way to understand where I am coming from is to know me. Not my "religion" becasue I have none. I hope that helps you to understand me a little better. God Bless P.S. 65 Liberty: I don't hate Sheehan. I just think she's gone off the deep end and many people give her far too much credit. If she had only stuck to the matter at hand, it might be different, but she goes off on tangents and spouts some pretty hateful language about things that have little to do with her base cause. Those who support her ignore these things and when someone else brings it up as the basis for their lack of support for her they get ridiculed and bombarded with the same hateful rhetoric she has used herself. It only escalates from there. She became a tool of some of the most radical people in the country. She sold her soul to them. She has her own PR firm, makeup girl and strategists. A lot of people are making a lot of money off her. They're not working for free. Conservatives make comments about all of Clinton's lies when they get defensive, but what did Clinton really lie about? Getting some head? He also assured us that our government is not in the business of nation building, but that is what we are doing, isn't it? He also stated plainly to all of the world that every measure had been taken to avoid war even though he didn't allow the U.N. inspectors to finish their job before he had my brothers in arms start dropping bombs on Bagdad. There were no smoking guns except our own. I marched in Washington last Saturday, right behind Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and Cindy Sheehan in my combat fatigue shirt and hat. Many of the counter-demonstrationers threw insults at me, calling me things like "traitor" and "communist." I AM A PATRIOT AND I LOVE MY COUNTRY. I have served on the frontlines of freedom. My combat boots were dirtied in the soil of North Korea. The people calling me all of those names don't know anything about me, who I am, where I come from or what I stand for. They are only ignorant enough to voice their prejudice toward my point of view in a hateful and disrespectful manner. It saddens me that the general apathy of the American public and it's overall lack of involvement in it's own politics has allowed our democracy to be hijacked by powers that can buy and control our politicians. Our system of government no longer serves it's people properly. It is of the corporation, by the corporation, for the corporation. Americans need to take back their government from the fascists who have hijacked it. The only way to do this is to get involved politically and force the system to become more than just a two party choice between Coke & Pepsi. People have to pay attention to the issues and voice their concerns to their representatives in the House & Senate. 78 jesusland joe, I've read a great deal of your comments here and expected exactly that sort of reaction from you. I served to protect the freedoms that we all cherish. I saw all of the elements you described at the march, and they were, unfortunately, hijacking a noble and just cause to suit their own desires. It's a free country and they are allowed to do so, but it only serves to detract from the legitimacy of the pursuit of peace. I marched with my love of country and my patriotic pride alongside all of those who were brave enough to get out in the streets of our capital and put their own faces on the cry for what is right and just. Agreeing with any of the groups you mentioned on the issue of Iraq does not mean I agree with or support their primary cause or fundamental ideal, but that we all agree that the Iraqi invasion and occupation is illegal and unjust. Most of the people I marched with were mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, regular people who share similar feelings about the lies and deception our government used to justify the attack on Iraq. The "anti-American" element you describe was at best a fringe element that had to be tolerated because this is, thank God, a free country. I'm curious to hear what you think you know about me just because I stood 15 feet behind a particular person, in this case Al Sharpton, and marched through Washington exercising my rights and voicing my opinion. Your "point," that I will be known by the company I keep, makes my point. People from all walks of life showed up to march in protest; many, like myself, as individual citizens. YOU choose to look at the most extreme elements that surround us and transfer their ideals and values onto all those around them. That is called prejudice. I have found that the people who desire peace are generally genuinely kind, loving people. I have also found that the pro-war group in general draws it's strength from a deep well of hatred and prejudice, qualities that you exhibit time and time again in your postings here. As I witnessed in Washington, they and you tend to revert to name-calling, whether it's "traitor," "communist," "radical," or "loser," none of these applies to me. To be a christian is to live your life as the best example of Jesus as you can. Bush makes no attempt to live a good christian life. Worst of all Bush has set the worst example possible of christianity with the world watching. How are we to spread the love of Jesus if we bomb people before we can tell them? Over 120,000 INNOCENT civilian Iraqis have been slaughtered by our INNOCENT teenage troops that signed up to find the terrorists, but never got the chance because the Bin Ladens and the Bushs have been friends and bussiness partners for a half a century. This war is unjust, Collin Powell admitted last week there is not one connection between 9-11 and Iraq. Not one terrorist was there when we invaded. The handful of terrorists we have caught have multiplied times a thousand due to our unwanted presence there. BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS. Nowhere in the bible does the Lord say that killers are blessed. It says love your enemies, bless and do not curse, that we are not to judge but to love. Weapons, bombs, threats of invading countries that have or DO NOT have weapons of mass destruction will not end terrorism. Bush can act as bad as he wants and continue to add feul to the fire,steal feul in the process, but what he is doing will not end terrorism. DIVINE INTERVENTION is our only hope of fighting terrorism. Jesus said to put on your armor of God, walk in the gospel of peace, use your salvation, righteousness, truth, and the SWORD OF THE SPIRIT which is THE WORD OF GOD to fight the enemy. God bless all that read my message and I pray that the Lord will come into your heart and you will allow HIM to be your savior. THEN pray for our country and that God will soften the hearts of our enemies and BELIEVE that God will answer our prayers. Doubt will poison the prayer, BELIEVE and we will defeat the hate that war breeds. One more comment, Palestine has been Palestine for thousands of years, when Jesus was here it was Palestine. We gave the Israelis weapons to kill them and run them out of their homes for the past 50 years. To them we are the terrorists, to them we are not of God. I can understand why you have no idea what you are talking about. We Germans are grateful for the invasion 1945, but you can't compare apples and pears (as we say). When you bomb a country and kill its citizens without any justifcation or any support by the UN, what does that make you then? A liberator, a peace fighter? Just a couple of points: Like Joe said, many did not think the war was a good idea, no one likes the killing. The point I was trying to make and the one it seems only you and Kenny agree with is this: Weather or not you thought the war was justified, we are in it. I am a Catholic Christian. I do not think the Christian or right thing to do is withdraw from Iraq. The human toll would be terrible and the political situation would certainly be worse. A much more interesting and productive discussion would be one that you just touched on. How can we make the best of the situation we find ourselves in? Can we get former allies to join in a solution? What would that kind of support include etc? Again, Sheehan seems to be saying just cut and run. She supports this irresponsible position with some conspiracy theories that are just nuts. In my opinion her rant is counterproductive and offers no solution to our problem. Galloway Supporters Want Your Children Dead

I just received an e-mail from the patriot who is raising money for U.S. troops by auctioning off George Galloway's treasonous book. You can participate in the auction here. Would it shock any of you to know that he has received a slew of hate mail and fake bids?

Two bidders, I am told are especially guilty of abusing eBay policy and have bid up the price to over 9 million dollars (screenshot below is evidence). They appear to be from the U.K. What do Galloway supporters in the U.K. think of British and American troops in Iraq? Your friends, brothers, and children are, and this is a direct quote, "people who kill women and children for a living."

Ladies and gentleman, your average Galloway supporter! They don't want the troops out of Iraq because they care about your sons and daughters. They want the troops out of Iraq because they hate your sons and daughters. Baby killers, that is their view of the American soldier.

If that weren't enough, our patriot friend continues:

Not only have they found my auction "disgusting", which is quite the compliment coming from those who find suicide bombers as glorious, but they have also expressed to me their wish for every American and British soldier to find their end in Iraqi soil.

These are British citizens, mind you, wishing their own countrymen dead and their troops defeated.

Of course, most of those against the war say they support the troops. There is actually a fair argument to be made that we should end the war because we cannot win, and we should not fight any war where we cannot attain victory. However, this is not the argument being made in D.C. this weekend by these protestors. What they are arguing is that the U.S. is bad, mmmmkay, and then try to dodge their own logic which inevetably leads one to conclude that if the U.S. and its allies are really the bad guys then it is perfectly acceptable to support those that murder them. more...

8 Where I live: two blocks down and one block east of Union Square. I've been walking by Camp Casey NYC every time I use the subway. First of all, Union Square has a long history of having permits issued for just about anything- my history in this neighboorhood goes back 10 years, and my wifes over 20. Sometimes NY'ers like to trump up the drama of the fight against "The Man." I was at the NYPublicLibrary last night and found out from the decorations that it was anti-censorship week. I hate censorship, unless it is being enforced on a child by a parent. But this is funny: there was actually a scrolling banner outside this NYPL (53rd bet 5 & 6) proclaiming the censorship we apparently live under, and inside the library you could get what would fall under their definition of "censored material". I'm getting off the subject, so let get back by adding that I was also back at Union Square when Cindy made her appearance (I had seen the signs earlier in the day). There was nothing I deemed interesting enough to stay for. I see a woman, who like Norma Rae, is being exploited in a moment of weakness to further the cause of people with an agenda much dissimilar from her own. ps, yes, I do believe these things, and I am a NY'er (and also a US vet) ha!

Clinton Overtaken by Events (w/ FEY UPDATE: [UPDATE II With Super-Insider TAWP References)

I'll second Howie's rant here about Slick Willie's poor taste in lighting into Bush. The really pathetic part of it, though, is that he chooses to do so the very same day that North Korea announces it's giving up its nuclear program and turning over the stuff it's made already. Like Al Gore giving a speech about the urgency of global warming on the coldest day of the year, Bill's timing is hilariously lousy.

Of course, Jeff, I don't trust the Norks on this at all: I don't trust them to allow complete IAEA inspections--I suspect there will be a lot of Saddam-style peek-a-boo being played--nor do I trust them to turn over everything like they say. But if they turn over anything at all, well, that's one pile of plutonium or maybe even one completed warhead they're not going to sell to Zawahiri or Assad or anyone else. It'll join Khadaffi's naughty stuff up in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. When it comes to yanking them out of circulation, any nukes is good nukes. What's more, this appears not to have affected our own bargaining position in the slightest.

Now: let us remember who let them get that far in the first place:

As Ace likes to say, I question the timing. And the question is, could Bill have screwed the timing up any worse if he'd planned to?

UPDATE: Sorry, I'm just very curious about those cordial glasses in the picture. They look like these, which are 6.5" high and hold 2 oz.

I think this is a photo-op choice. Since Kim is like five-one with the poof, and Albright couldn't guard Smurfette in a pickup game, they chose tiny glasses for tiny people. Ordinary champagne glasses would have looked like goldfish bowls on these two. Can't have the dignitaries dwarfed by the stemware.

Poor Bastard Howie Disagrees With Bill

Bill Clinton broke with tradition and has flamed President Bush for just about everything. Actually I've been waiting for this.

On the US budget, Clinton warned that the federal deficit may be coming untenable, driven by foreign wars, the post-hurricane recovery programme and tax cuts that benefitted just the richest one percent of the US population, himself included

Bullshit Bill. I may not agree with everything Bush has done the last six years but being upper lower or lower middle class I have gotten the best tax returns ever. I mean I get back more than I pay if I spend my bucks right. The idea that only the rich benefit from these cuts is just untrue. I got back about 2400 bucks last year and as a single income family of three 2400 bucks is good money for me. The bush tax policies are way better for me than yours ever were. If we want to raise taxes on the rich fine with me. But to reverse the tax cuts will cut my return from 2400 bucks to about 350 under Clinton. I have to ask myself am I better off than I was six years ago? Hell yes I am!!!!. Grrrrrrr.

In the right place has more. As does polipundit on WMD.

My mother is from Arkansas, very close to where Clinton grew up(within 30 miles), and she always said that Clinton was the best politian the US has ever had, with the possible exception of Abraham Lincoln. He knows that Hillary is lining up for a run for the White House in '08, and he smells blood in the water. His problem, though, is that he is always attuned to polls, and doesn't take other factors into consideration. Leadership is the major value he lacks, therefore he is somewhat like a child in his temperament. That is why the women all love him so. He seems to be their baby boy the bully is picking on.

George I have gotten tax cuts as well as refundable credits for investment education so on and so forth so I benefit greatly and I'm by no means a rich man. Then there's that pesky 16th amendment which has increasingly become hard to prove for the IRS! Funny thing is, properly ratifying personal income tax wouldn't be a huge deal. 1 This is really the fault of the Republican/Conservative leadership in this country. We in America are letting these people become the tail that wags the dog. Why doesnÂ’t Presidential, Senate, and House leadership get out and criticize this blatantly anti American organization? We need to define who we are and who they are. When these lines are clearly drawn, Americans will choose one or the other. The majority of Americans will side with what is best for our country. ItÂ’s almost as if the conservative is afraid of offending the guy who is sticking the knife in his back. Who the hell cares about offending him? Throw him down and kick his ass! 3 That's why the left is enamored with the ACLU and other left leaning organizations. They are the champions of anyone in our country who doesn't belong. Why does one think the left is so vehement in fighting laws that will curb voter fraud or laws that promote convicted felons' right to vote? They have lost so much support from "natural" American citizens that it's the only way they can get enough votes to remain relevant. They're desperate. Desperation breeds mistakes, exposes lies and will further marginalize them. The Republican party is starting to piss me off too. They stand there and take it and don't fight back. They're just trying to appease the Democrats now. It was evident in Bush's last speech regarding the Katrina disaster. He might as well have just stood there with a his mouth shut and held up a blank check for all to see and abuse. Might as well take that check and dip it in a vat of pork lard before he signs it. If these detainees were in uniform and not specifically targeting non-combatants - women, children, old men - sawing the heads off innocent people and torturing some to degrees that would make what happened in abu Graib look like a tea party, I'd agree with you. I mean c'mon, they're killing their own without remorse. At what point are we finally allowed to stop caring? So it's not necessary to talk down to us about our ignorance or denial. I understand your chagrin. The government ticks me off too. This just doesn't happen to be on my particular radar. But exposing the treatment of the terrorists isn't enough for them. We're not stupid, we know what went on. They will carry that banner as high and as long as they can. And everytime something else grabs the headlines they start anew. 9 We have three solutions to problems that face our society; the ballot box, the jury box, and the cartridge box. When the the first two have been nullified by corruption, and no longer serve the People, that only leaves the third. It is clear that the ballot box is stuffed, the jury box is rigged, and so the cartridge box is all that's left. I have no faith left in the government or the greatest majority of the people, because the government is corrupt and incompetent, with politicians bought and sold by special interests like whores in a brothel. They did so because it was the only option they had, besides slavery. They had to win their freedom, or die trying. Now is our time to choose; what will be our course of action? To allow a corrupt government, which has been sold lock, stock, and barrel, to the highest bidders, to continue unchallenged? Do we continue to tolerate open treason and sedition, often by our own elected officials, against the nation and the people? Or do we stand up and challenge those who are charged with the duties of leadership to do the jobs they were chosen to do, and hold them accountable for their crimes of corruption and incompetence? If we do not make ourselves heard by our voices, we will soon have no choice but to make ourselves heard by the sound of gunfire, because we must not allow this creeping tyranny to advance farther. Left leaning judges may have no regard for the legislative arm of the government, but they are the only de facto power base that the left has in running the country at the federal level. The Left's power in Congress is limited and has continued to erode over the last 20 years. The courts are all the Left has left to push it's agenda. That's why this fight is seen as so crucial to the Left's agenda. They need it to stay in the game. It's also why they need the US to flop badly somewhere so that they can claim to be the way out of the mess (doesn't matter if its domestically or internationally, they need a massive disaster to suggest that they can do things better).

9 Congress is every bit as likely to try to grab power that is not properly theirs as the President or the Court. For example using the Interstate Commerce Clause to justify regulations whether or not they are interstate or commerce is one congressional abuse of power. In those instances it is proper for the acts of Congress to be invalidated. Seems to me, IIRC it was Leahy was reaching for power that is not vested in Congress when asking if Congress passed a law demanding the withdrawl of troops that the President had to obey. Huh? Congress can deny funding, Congress can declare war, but Congress can not end a war. That is a perogative of the executive branch.

Sometimes commentators on the right clearly wish for what they condemn the left for wanting. The Constitution on its own leaves many holes to be filled in. These holes are to be filled in by the legislature, when a law is filling in a hole then the job of the court is to interpret that law as written. If that law presumes to override the constituion then the job of the court is to nullify that law. The problem many conservatives have with the courts is that when a clearly constitutional law is invalidated by the court solely because the judges prefer it that way. The ruling that bars the execution of minors is one of those. There is no prohibition in the constitution against that. The states should be able to allow or prohibit it as they see fit, in fact I would argue the Court's ruling is what went against the constitution in that case.

IIRC, the federal law prohibiting drugs & guns within a given distance of a school was also based on the commerce clause. IIRC, that one was also struck down. For example the case I allude to in my previous comment and go into further over at Blogger Beer, see the Fatwa issued against me! :-) The striking down of the capital punishment of minors is an example. What in the Constitution prohibits that? Nothing, therefore it is a matter for the states and their legislatures. However, the SCOTUS, decided that was so yesterday and therefore had to go trolling far and wide for justification, justification not present in OUR Constitution. They resorted to foreign law (law which we have not consented to) and says our society needs to become more enlightened. This is judicial activism, striking down laws that are constitutional based on whimsy. This is BAD for our nation. Now, in the case I allude to above Congress tries to claim unconstitutional powers via standard procedures. The court in US vs Lopez ruled the law unconstitutional and nullified the law. So, you need to dig deeper.

He can't understand the one simple point that the legislature can pass all the laws they want, but if it's unconstitutional, it must be struck down. I don't care what side does it. Whether one side does it more than the other is not the issue. The issue is "was it unconstitutional"? It's not that hard to understand. actus is only unhappy in that he sees the "right" doing it more. If the left side was striking down more legislation, he'd be checking into the particulars so he could defend it.

22 Actus, You gave me a book which is technically not a link. I went to my library today and could not find a copy of it, but I still disagree with your premise about the conservative side of the court striking down more laws than the liberal. That said, my objection has never been with the SCOTUS striking down unconstitutional laws, but with the tendency for the liberal side of the court to basically write law and order change based on personal views of what the Constitution should say. Under the Constitution as I read it, and I've read it many times, I do not see those particular powers enumerated. Reviewing law IS the priciple function of the court, and that is what the court should do. It's the liberal interpretation of laws based on a so-called "living" constitution that I find so objectionable.

5 Oh, but there's more. I saved the full photo from jihadwatch and opened it in photoshop. After zooming in it's apparent the guy to the speaker's right also has a photoshopped turbin. I'd bet money on it. You can see a light halo of reflected light at the top of everyone else's dark head, scarved or unscarved, (except the woman in question of course) but not his. It's too black.

16 What I don't understand is with that mindset why is the speaker wearing a nice suit and tie. All I want to know is (any Arab/Muslim help me out here) with all that excess clothing baggage on your women, at home, in private .. are they "hot"? I'd hate to think with all that coverage that their .. what can I say .. yuck. If so, I can understand covering them up, and have a newfound sympathy you.

Lodi Terror Suspects Face Bail Hearing

Two of the Lodi terror suspects are up for bail. This is the third bail hearing they've been granted. In the first two hearings they were denied.

The Hayat's lawyers are arguing that the pair are not a threat to the community because they have not been charged with a violent crime. They have been charged only with lying on their immigrant forms. Which, of course, seems like a pretty non-violent and relatively minor crime.

What the lawyers fail to mention, though, is that the specific lie they are charged with denying that they ever supported violent jihad against the U.S. and never attended al Qaeda training camps. Nope, no threat here.

U.S. Peace Activist to be Deported from Australia

American Scott Parkin, a 36 year old history teacher and peace activist, is about to be deported from Australia because he has been deemed a 'security risk'. Isn't the real question, though, why we should take him back? What if Israel had done the right thing and deported Rachel Corrie? A lot fewer headaches, I'm sure. I was just thinking maybe we ought to start a few deportation hearings of our own........

A US peace activist branded a threat to national security by Australia will not fight deportation, his lawyer has said. Scott Parkin will take legal action against officials to find out why they decided he was a security risk, his lawyer Julian Burnside added.
Mr Parkin was arrested following a Sydney protest against US military contractor Halliburton, a firm with close ties to the Bush administration...
Australian Attorney General Philip Ruddock told national television that the decision "was based upon a security assessment and security assessments are not matters about which I can comment in any detail".

Parkin is a member of Houston Global Awareness Collective. The group espouses radical conspiracy theories about corporate America.

While they ostensibly are a corporate watchdog group, Halliburton being their main cause, they are actually a radical Leftist organization. Their goals?

1. Halliburton out of Iraq-not the real target. The real target is the war in Iraq. Halliburton's absence, they believe, would force the U.S. out.

2. End the US wars for empire--they include Afghanistan in this definition as well as ALL wars.

3. De-Centralized community-based mobilization: Here's how they explain it. I swear, this could be an episode of South Park

We will help catalyze racially just, non-patriarchal, mass movements to challenge corporate and government power and create socially just, directly democratic, ecological, equitable, and peaceful alternatives

If you can deconstruct that sentence, be my guest.

4. Normalize the use of Direct Action and Popular Education-No idea. Maybe they can teach each other the fourth and fifth stanzas of kumbaya. Just watch out. If you let a hippie drum circle get to big, pretty soon you'll have a full-blown music festival, and after that, well, chaos. more...

11 Even moderate Australians like myself see this as a straw in the wind. So much for free speech and freedom of assembly, rights you take for granted, perhaps too much. It's a repeat of what our government did before WW2 to protect Nazis from adverse comment. Then-PM Robert Menzies "admired Herr Hitler". Long after his death he is still known as "Pig Iron Bob" for crushing Union opposition to shipping pig-iron to Japan just before Pearl Harbour! Unionists were gaoled for saying that it would came back as bullets and bombs and refusing to load it. So in a wonderful irony Menzies got the army to load it. Unlike you comfortable Yanks, Aussies don't have any legal backing for our freedoms - no Bill of Rights - we have to trust our politicians. I hope you find that concept funny, because the way our government is acting doesn't seem very funny at this close range (Melbourne). In Australia some of the comments on this website would get it closed down as "terrorist". There is a huge difference between agreeing with Parkin, and with agreeing with his right to free speech.
