Pantano resigns commission, retains honor
Thanks to relentless villification by the press, desertion by the government he swore to uphold, and the ingratitude of the country he swore to protect, Lieutenant Ilario Pantano has resigned.

h/t Michelle Malkin:
Here are some of Pantano's comments upon announcing his resignation at a fish fry today:
Congressman Jones, You once shared a verse with me:
Greater love hath no man - than to lay down his life for his friends.
That spirit of sacrifice defines the soldier and Marine. And it defines you sir. You know in your heart and your soul what is right and you are willing to fight for it. Even if it is at great risk to you and your career.
As my family and I faced our darkest hours you fought for us, and in doing soÂ…You fought for every man and woman in the uniform, past present and future - not because of the opportunity to challenge the military, but for the opportunity to protect it from itself.
Day and night you appealed to any that would listen. You were tireless in your defense of me, and for that I will be eternally grateful.
My family and I want to thank you for your courage and your leadership.
First, I present to you my innocence, known to you and many many others from the outset, but proven finally by our justice system after a yearlong investigation and prosecution.
Congressman Jones, You werenÂ’t just brave to defend me. You were RIGHT.
And finally, from one warrior to another, I present to you my most cherished possession: my sword. My love of corps and country will never be broken or diminished, but now it is my love of family that I must honor most with my decision to resign.
I have taken up arms for my country and my corps in two wars and it has been my privilege to serve beside real heroes- some of whom are here today.
Even as I step aside it is my greatest hope that young men and women continue to follow in the footsteps of those who have gone beforeÂ… To push themselvesÂ…To rise to the challenge of becoming Marines. Our country needs you and we will always be grateful to you.
The Marine OfficerÂ’s sword represents the highest ideals of military excellence and professionally, one of my greatest achievements.
Honor, courage and commitment are principles by which we Marines LIVE AND DIE.
You, Congressman Jones, through your actions, have demonstrated that you live by those principles as well.
And I, for one am grateful that you do.
Thank you Sir, may God bless you and your family and may God Bless America.

Pantano resigns. Great. He was a great soldier and he is needed in IRaq but the degenerate liberal media considers him a criminal.

I can understand why he did this, and I don't blame him a bit, but goddamn them all to hell for destroying a good Marine.

It is a shame that this great protector of freedom has to end his career this way.

Again the MSM and its' cohorts are trying to convert the War on Terror into "their" version of Vietnam. I sadly agree that they have succeeded in destroying a great Marine. Lt. Pantano, I salute you.

Goddamn the chickenshit politicians and especially George Dumbass Bush for letting this happen. I have never seen such a display of political cowardice in my life. WTF is the matter with Republicans these day? Are our elected officials, who just happen to be in the GODDAMN MAJORITY really that gutless? Are they really such cowards, or is it just that they don't care? It's a by-God certified miracle that our military can do anything anymore, what with all these chickenshit liberals persecuting our troops, and the chickenshit politicians too gutless to stick up for them for doing their jobs. I'm glad I'm not in the Army anymore. How can we not lose at the rate we're going?

IM I do agree with you,I am a Democrat, and one of the things I've been complaining about since 9/11 is that Bush simply refuses to
take any real action against the media. He refused to stand by
Lt.Pantano and other good men like him.I also thought he had a
lot of nerve back here in April when he went over to Europe and
was critical of the Yalta Agreement that FDR and Churchill
negotiated but this man refuses to do anything about the fifth
column that is in his midst.Bluster is easy 60 years when you
criticize prior government action, but at least FDR would back his
soldiers,sailors,airmen,and marines.What happened with Lt.Pantano
would not have happened in WW2.I'm speaking to many of you ex
dems and those of you who came out of Democratic families now;the
problem the GOP has had and even with many conservatives that are
now the party's base, is that you are still blue Blooded in your thinking.Traditionally, bluebloods don't like to get their hands
dirty and they don't like to fight even when it is justified. My
party has been suffering from the drudgery of the BlueBlooded left
for the last 30 years and they stink and have got to be tosssed
out to pasture.your founders weren't like "Old Hickory" the founder
of the Democratic Party General Andrew Jackson. You all know that
Jackson would not put up with the stuff you see our media doing
know hurting our troops.Jackson was non partisan when it came to
defending this country and he would have had the media walking on
"soft boiled eggs" for this kind of stuff. How come W and the GOP
haven't learned this lesson. It would've been some heads rolling
like a bowling ball in the Marine Corps had this crap occured
during WW2.You also didn't have all these "perfumed princes" for
officers running things as you do now.But he is disemboweled as well
that sorry excuse of a justice department we have.we pay these people,so why haven't they brought the media up on treason charges?!They are scared or either stupid that's why.
