You ever wonder why moonbats like Farrakhan can keep a national profile? It's because they have corporte sponsorship. Not always directly, but indirectly. It seems that the Jew-hating lunatic spoke at a Jesse Jackson event last year sponsored, in part, by Toyota.

Maybe Toyota ought to forget the middle man and just hire ol' Farrakhan to be their spokesman? The cars should be a big seller in the Middle East. Sorry for posting an off topic question here but I think this particular one has a profound impact on our society.
The Pope says “Harry Potter corrupts the young, distorting their understanding of the battle between good and evil”. In a way, he is saying “Harry is Evil, Potter is Satan!”
Well, we know orthodox Christians also despise Uncle Santa Claus and all those at DisneyWorld, do you fancy a world without Cinderella, Snow White and Mr. Mickey Mouse?

I thought the same about Harry Potter even before reading the Pope's criticism. It's a far cry from the works of Tolkien and CS Lewis where good vs evil are clearly delineated.
In Potter, "good" is merely what suits the pleasure of the book's heroes, and "bad" is what doesn't.
The Pope's right on.

That's all the Holy Father is saying. The books, if parents choose to let their kids read them, need to be read as fictional entertainment and nothing more. I think most Christian parents would agree that any amusement could be abused."
The books are junk and hopefully a fad that will soon die.

My 3 kids are avid readers. Thankfully they have never expressed an interest in Harry Potter.
There are plenty of good things to read, meat and potatoes, no need to give them junk food.

Brad: Please don't take offense at my use of the word "junk." They may be fine as reading material, but they don't seem have the depth other fantasy novels have, like Tolkein, as carlos mentioned. As long as they're read as "junk" (i.e., light amusement as opposed to doorways into obsession with the occult), they're fine. We all need a little "junk" once in a while in addition to meat and potatos.

I agree with Brad that kids shouldn't be reading that crap. Kids will imitate, and I wouldn't want my kids imitating any of the characters in Harry Potter. I've believed this since the first moment I saw Harry Potter using his powers, not for good, but for revenge. There is no honor, no chivalry, no ethical code of conduct to be gleaned from those books. On the contrary.

Hey YBP no offense taken.
The kids get plenty of fluff with magazines like American Girl, Sports Illustrated for Kids etc. My son warmed my heart when he began taking the sports page up to the bathroom with him.
This Potter stuff just rubs me the wrong way. Kind of reminds me of the Pokemon fad a few years back. I never thought much of the parents who let their kids get into that stuff.
I sure itÂ’s pretty harmless, but the kids that were into it were always the ones I least liked my kids to play with. Usually some parenting issues went along with it.

Five youths aged 12-16 from a West Bank settlement are suspected of raping a 9-year-old girl from the settlement dozens of times in recent months, Israel Radio reported Thursday.
The story came to light Wednesday, when the girl complained about the rapes.
Police officers have arrested two of the suspects, aged 14 and 16. They will be brought to the Kfar Sava Magistrate's Court on Thursday for an extension of their remands.
Two additional suspects, aged 12, will be handled by social workers. Another suspect, aged 14, is currently abroad."

The only thing I have to say is that I rather have kids reading
than setting all day vegging out in front of Genius or Xbox. And from what I hear, the Harry Potter books gets kids to want to read. That by itself, makes the books great. I do believe the Harry Potter books are ok as long as they are read as fictional entertainment, as YBP suggest.

I happen to enjoy the Harry Potter series and am looking forward to reading the next one this weekend. I have to generally disagree with the Pope on this one as it is not marketed as an alternative to christian or judeo dogma, but is instead A WORK OF FUCKING FICTION.
You know, make believe, fantasy, not to be attributed to actual real life experience. It is not a false idol and is not to be taken as competition to G-d. It is not advocating witchcraft any more than Bewitched was.
