Backlash Against Muslims

Backlash? Terrible if true.

I hate to use the word but when speaking of something as horrible as a mosque firebombing. It seems like so much moral equivocation.

[Insert one act of injustice here] but [insert even greater act of injustice here].

In fact, I heard a British imam on NPR's Talk of the Nation using this tactic today. Condemning the London transportation bombings but noting that the Bush-Blair policies in Iraq and Afghanistan were so much worse and really the catalyst for the bombings. You know, the bombings were backlash against the war in Iraq. Daniel Benjamin makes much the same argument.

So be careful when using the word but and comparing two unequal wrongs.

Having made that disclaimer let me note that irrational backlash is wrong, but:

Incidentally, so long as we're so concerned about "backlash" -- the anti-Christian anti-Jew anti-Hindu anti-"apostate Muslim" "backlash" seems to have a much greater bodycount than the alleged anti-Muslim "backlash."

It sure would be nice to see Muslims have 1% of the concern for the "backlash" against the non-Muslim world -- the world that is actually experiencing mass-butchery at the hands of Muslims -- as they do for the hypothetical, always-on-the-horizon-but-never-quite-arriving "backlash" against themselves.

READ. THE. REST.

I'm far more worried about Islamic backlash than about any other type of backlash. Backlashes there be a plenty in a world of action-reaction.

Pop quiz. Which is worse?

a) Theo Van Gogh's backlash against mysogeny in the Islamic world in the form of his controversial film Submission.

b) Mohammed Bouyeri's backlash against Theo Van Gogh's controversial film Submission.

1 Us Londoner's have a quite restraint. Part of this restraint can be seen in the refusal of Londoners to connect the bombers with their own Muslim neighbours. In the immediate aftermath of the murderers, foreign Muslims, in particular, voiced fears of a bloody reaction. How little they understand the British. Even at the height of the Troubles, when hundreds were dying at the hands of the IRA, no one thought to blame the million odd Irish nationals in Great Britain for the actions of the gunmen. So it is today. People understand that their Muslim countrymen are as much targets of the fanatics as anyone else. Backlashes happen in panicky and volatile nations. We are not such a nation.

2 Liberals should do some handwringing and try to "understand" why there might be a backlash.

3 Even a great brave people like the Brits should get some payback. As for me. Run every muslim back to their own countries. They are cowards for not fighting for justice in the birth countries. Why does anyone think they will fight for justice in England. They won't. They will stab the Brits in the back for giving them a home away from their rotten people. The problem is ISLAM.

4 Remind me what 9/11 was a backlash for. Oh, how about for not doing jack squat about the Iranian hostages, the Beruit barracks attacks, embassy bombings, USS Cole bombing. My point: fans of the blowback theory fail to recognize that there is blowback from inaction as well.

5 "No one was inside the building at the time of the attack." Amateurs.

6 Leopold you get a gold star bud, 'cause ya nailed it dead center. Our restrain only encourages these savages; the only thing a jihadotard understands is a boot on his neck.

7 Only one mosque burned? Not for long I bet, not for long. As ye sow, also shall ye reap...

8 Leopold Stotch: Amen to that one. It's not as complicated as many would have us believe. We are dealing with children here. Children with rags on the heads and guns in their hands. And they act the part. More mosque burnings and deportations are in order. This they will understand.

If they gain control you will be on the auction block. Just hope they give you the proper amount of lashes you deserve.

12 Since 1998,in indonesia more than 1,000 churches burned down and destroyed by moslems mob. So please kill them, or ask your government to deport them back to sand dunes before they kill you all. Because killing infidels is amust for a true islam!
