I am giving Harry the benefit of the doubt and assuming it is his commitment to his fellow soldiers that drives him. That would be cool to imagine.
My conspiratorial side thinks that it could be a ploy to force Blair's hand into removing troops from Iraq. Something the prince's father (HRH) might have concocted in his capacity as public dissident #1.

WOW...kind of interesting to see kids like this grow up into men. I don't see this as some kind of 'ploy', knowing what I know about this upstart youth. And Blair isn't the type to abandon the cause (IMHO).

Good for him! That is how it was done in an earlier time. A king had lead his army into battle. That is a far cry from commanding an army.
Winston Churchill took his famous ancestor, the 1st Duke of Marlborough, as his role model. He served in the Army as a young man. Western civilization eventually benefited greatly from his experience.
