Fake Breasts Banned in Space

Breast Implants(United Kingdom) Virgin Galactic is booking reservations for its inaugural flight into space -- scheduled for 2008. Consequently, measures have been established to assure safety including a ban on individuals with artificially augmented breasts.

From Sky.com:

Bosses fear the implants may expand and burst due to cabin pressure, according to The Sun.

More than 157 people have paid 115,000 British Pounds [about $200,000] each to travel into space on the Virgin Galactic space "shuttle."

Spokesman Will Whitehorn said: "We've discovered there may well be issues with breast augmentation.

"We're not sure whether they could stand the trip - they could well explode."

People with heart or circulation problems may also be ruled out.

It's not clear whether artificial penile augmentation will also be banned. However, one has to assume that any rejections of prospective passengers will be based entirely on the honor system. There must be a law that prevents spaceport screeners from searching for evidence of cosmetic surgery.

1 No way. We need a law REQUIRING female space travelers to be screened for breast enhancements. In the open. In front of a web cam. So that more experienced, uh, screeners can observe remotely and comment, er, say something if they spot fake breasts.

2 Of course, the prohibition will prevent some of the rich and famous celebrities from being space cadets actually in space.

3 How low is the cabin pressure in this thing going to go? If fluid filled implants are likely to explode, what about the person's organs?

4 Mythbusters did this, and I think the result was that implants aren't a problem. The problem came from inflatable bra inserts...

5 Well, the story did generate a couple of days of publicity - didn't it?

6 Mythbusters did this, and I think the result was that implants aren't a problem. The problem came from inflatable bra inserts... I think they found that death would come long before the small inflation of the implant became a problem.

8 Perhaps there will be some adaptive technology. If one can afford $200,000 for the suborbital ride on the Virgin Galactic SpaceShipTwo, then perhaps, some space medicine could come into 'play' prior to liftoff. After all, this is the 2nd Space Age.

9 The breast implants expand and then explode? Here's a solution, make implants that are more durable that don't explode. That way there are bigger fake boobies in space!
