Agenda Politics Or Polls?

Do our troops support withdrawal from Iraq? Duh. Every one wants to get out of Iraq. But there are ways to rig, spin, and manipulate poll numbers. First, set up a straw man argument: Bush wants us to stay indefinitely in Iraq. Second, ask if people agree with the straw man: Do you think we should leave Iraq? Third, make sure that whoever does the polling has your agenda in mind.

UPDATE: Related analysis of the poll.

1 Rusty could we have some links to the staw man argument that the poll used. I haven't been able to see much analysis done on the poll itself.

2 When I was in the war way back in the old days, all I wanted was to come home, because it's a miserable place full of miserable people, but I had a job to do and a duty to fulfill before I could come home. Of course that one word -duty- is not part of any language spoken by libtards, and job is a dirty word.

3 The first thing to look at with this poll is the fact that this poll was done in conjunction with (read sponsored by) Le Moyne CollegeÂ’s Center for Peace and Global Studies. This tells you the angle from which the poll has been designed to reflect. The second thing to look at is the fact that out of the approximate 135,000 troops in theatre, they polled 944 people. That is .0069%! Not even one full percentage point of representation! I'm guessing the majority of responders were also located in places far from hot zones, as the people who are living in those hot zones are concentrating one thing -- continuing to live, not answering a bunch of questions as to when they should leave. Those soldiers and Marines who eat, breathe and live in the service of their country KNOW when they should leave -- when their mission is done, and not one day sooner.

4 Well Rusty I still do not see the straw man. According to what I have read, and I used all of the links, no question was asked "If the United States should withdraw from Iraq". The question asked ws "when should the United States withdraw?" Now please don't think that I am saying this poll is dead solid spot on for accuracy, but even if it is off by 10% or 20% we should still be looking at it closely. And I don't think that it is off by 20%. The"Stars and Stripes" article on this poll seemed to not not dismiss out of hand the results of the poll..http://www.estripes.com/article.asp?section=104&article=35385 In the week preeceding the publication of this poll both Bill O'Reilly and Bill Buckley came out for withdrawal. O'Reilly saying as fast as humanely possible. Of course both the poll and the pundit's observations occured before the mosque bombing and talk of civil war. I see this poll as important but also alarming. I am surprised that there are not more comments on it.

5 I know the poll is false because 100% want to come home - well, except for Danny - but then - I've met his wife and seen how he lives. Guy never had it so good in Tirkrit! Weird huh!
