Robots Combat Terrorists in Iraq (images)

Below: A remote control robot disarms a dead Iraqi terrorist. The terrorist was killed by an Iraqi civilian defending himself from an assassination attempt. You'll see the hand grenade he was carrying in the last photo.

It's always good when you can combine your love of killing terrorists with your love of robots in a single post.

Cheney Hunting Affidavits Released (Originals)

Here is a copy of the original affidavits relating to Vice President Dick Cheney's shooting accident. They come via USA Today and the Corpus Christi Caller-Times.

They are .pdf copies of the original affidavits filed by the Kenedy County Sheriff's Department. Click here to see them.

You'll notice that all involved agree this was an accident. No quantities of alcohol were consumed. That the Sheriff's department was notified almost immediately, etc. So much for the conspiracy theories and tirades about a 'cover up'.

For his part, Harry Whittington is apologetic about all the fuss that has been caused by being shot and looks forward to hunting with Cheney again in the future. more...

Goodbye F-14 Tomcat, RIP

The F-14 Tomcat has been officially retired from the Navy's service. And except for that brief Top Gun fiasco in 1986, the Tomcat has served our country with distinction. What? Are you still suffering under the delusion that Tom Cruise is straight?

Pssst--I hear that the new F-22 Raptor refuses to let any Scientologist--including jet pilot John Travolta--come near it.

Are British Conservatives Weak on Terror?

Wow, I never thought I'd be criticizing the Tories for being weak on terrorism. To their eternal shame they voted against Labour's proposal to outlaw the glorification of terrorism. The opposition claimed that the new law was not needed. But as Robert Spencer rightly points out, "If the existing laws were adequate to the problem, why did Abu Hamza preach unhindered for seven years?" Indeed.

This is not Thatcher's Conservative Party.

Muslim Cleric Offers Million Dollars to Kill Danish Cartoonists

A Pakistani Muslim cleric has issued a fatwa and offered up to $1 million to any one of the few misunderstanders of jihad who will kill Danish cartoonists involved in drawing images of Muhammed. The cleric has visited upstate New York to give inspirational talks to American Muslims and may have some relationship to radicals that use Islamic schools in rural areas as fronts for terrorist training mentioned in this earlier post.

Saddam Tapes Fizzle, Right Chases Ghosts (UPDATED)

UPDATE: I am now completely confused. Traderrob points out that ABC deliberately left out parts of the 12 hour tape in which Saddam actually threatens to use a third party to attack the U.S. with WMD! So, take that into consideration as you read the following rant that I wrote before learning of this.

------

Not only are the 12 hours of tapes set to be released to the public by John Loftus tomorrow a fizzling non-event, but the media and many on the Right side of the blogosphere have taken those tapes out of context, twisting them to find hidden meaning where no meaning is to be found.

Without naming names, can I just say that it is totally out of context to read Saddam Hussein's warnings that 'terrorism is coming to America' as a veiled threat. Many on the Right have been so eager to find WMDs in Iraq that they are letting wishful thinking cloud their judgement. The tapes are no 'smoking-gun' more...

Terrorists Using Islamic Schools in U.S. to Recruit, Train (Updted)

UPDATE: Pakistani cleric with ties to this group has placed a $1,000 bounty on Danish cartoonist's head.

Disturbing report from WND about terror groups using Islamic schools in the U.S. as a front for their recruitment and training activities.

I'm *shocked*. Thanks to Nicholas for sending this link:

The Pakistani terrorist group Jamaat ul Fuqra is using Islamic schools in the United States as training facilities, confirms a joint investigative report by an intelligence think tank and an independent reporter.

A covert visit to an encampment in the Catskill Mountains near Hancock, N.Y., called "Islamberg" found neighboring residents deeply concerned about military-style training taking place there but frustrated by the lack of attention from federal authorities, said the report by the Northeast Intelligence Network, which worked with an Internet blogger, "CP," to publish an interim report.

The neighbors interviewed, who asked not to be identified, said they feared retaliation if they were to make a report to law enforcement officials.

"We see children – small children run around over there when they should be in school," one neighbor said. "We hear bursts of gunfire all of the time, and we know that there is military-like training going on there. Those people are armed and dangerous." ...

Jamaat ul-Fuqra, or "community of the impoverished," was formed by Pakistani cleric Sheikh Mubarak Ali Gilani in New York in 1980. Gilani, who refers to himself as "the sixth Sultan Ul Faqr," has stated his objective is to "purify" Islam through violence.

Gilani also is the founder of a village in South Carolina called "Holy Islamville."

The encampment in Hancock, N.Y., is run by a front for Jamaat ul-Fuqra called Muslims of the Americas Inc., which operates a school known as the International Quranic Open University Inc....

Though primarily based in Lahore, Pakistan, Jamaat ul-Fuqra has operational headquarters in the U.S.

The group seeks to counter "excessive Western influence on Islam" through any means necessary, publicly embracing the ideology that violence is a significant part of its quest to purify Islam. The enemies of Islam, the group says, are all non-Muslims and any Muslim who does not follow the tenets of fundamentalist Islam as detailed in the Quran.

Jamaat ul-Fuqra openly recruits through various social service organizations in the U.S., including the prison system. Members live in compounds where they agree to abide by the laws of Jamaat ul-Fuqra, which are considered to be above local, state and federal authority.

According to the report, there appear to be more than two dozen "Jamaats," or private communities, loosely connected and scattered throughout the U.S. with an estimated 5,000 members.

And for more, check out The Politics of CP's extensive coverage here.

Hamas Admits 'Israeli Propaganda' Was True All Along

From YnetNews, via Internet Haganah:

The Hamas organization officially announced for the first time that it has received funding and assistance in training from the Lebanese Hizbullah terror group.

A report posted on Hamas' website recently, describes the establishment of the organization's first cell in Ramallah, immediately following the outbreak of the intifada.

Hamas has denied all claims that it received funds from Hizbullah. Other Palestinian terror groups have done the same, charging the reports were "Israeli propaganda" aimed at implicating the Lebanese group with responsibility for the intifada, in a bid to generate international – and mainly American – pressure on Syria and Iran.

Iran Renames Danish Pastries

(Tehran, Iran) As far as expressing dissatisfaction, the following makes a lot more sense than burning down embassies and killing people.

From Aljazeera.net:

Bakeries across the capital Tehran on Thursday were covering up the name-plates for Danish pastries after the confectioners union ordered the name change in retaliation for cartoons of Islam's revered prophet first published in a Danish newspaper.

"Given the insults by Danish newspapers against the prophet, as of now the name of Danish pastries will give way to Rose of Mohammad pastries," the union said in its order.

So, instead of ordering a Danish with your coffee, you'll now have to ask for a Rose of Mohammad, "gul-e-muhammadi" in Farsi. Of course, I'll not beguile myself into thinking that the protesters will stop burning down buildings. After a sugar fix from a Rose of Mohammad, the followers of the religion of peace will likely still grab their torches.

The Arabs Parallel Universe - From An Arab/Muslim's Perspective

Rantings Of A Sandmonkey has a couple of interesting posts up that I'd go so far as to say offer important insight to non-Muslims on some prevalent opinions and the world view of many Arab/Muslims - from the advantage point of a moderate Arab/Muslim's perspective. In one of his previous posts a reader (Jeffrey) had left a comment describing a phenomenon that he had noticed over the past 3 years of viewing middle-eastern news, something he referred to as the A.P.U., (Arab Parallel Universe).

Sandmonkey writes that the A.P.U. was created by Arabs to explain to themselves why they are in the rut they have been for so long, while also glorifying their personal victories against a world that is always conspiring against them. In the A.P.U., events that happen in our real universe also occur, except that the fashion of their occurrence and their outcome are very different then what we- in the real universe-know them to be. In referring to the commenter he writes:

It amazed me that he came to that conclusion, since it brilliantly summed up something that I have been trying to describe for years. I immediately told all my family and friends about it and upon their realization that we are all citizens of the A.P.U., they started giving me examples and evidence of that geographic phenomenon. In this post I will try to explain some of the rules of the A.P.U., and list examples of them for the sake of explaining to the rest of the world the rules of our very fun parallel Universe.
You can read all of his commentary at his site, but here is a summary and conclusion; the 7 political rules of the APU are:
1) Arabs never make mistakes, and they rarely lose wars.
2) The Zionists and the Americans are always to blame for everything that is wrong in the APU.
3) If there is any credit at all that can be contributed to Arabs in any way, they will take it.
4) Good leadership is inversely related to how US-friendly a leader is!
5) Any media that is not the official state-owned media is filled with Zionist, Jewish, American, Christian, imperialist, anti-arab influences and they LIE ALL THE TIME!
6) There is really no need for elections in the APU, because Presidents and rulers are presidents and rulers for life.
7) The only viable alternative candidate to the current leader or president is this current leader or presidentÂ’s son.
In a follow-up, today he posts another comment from a reader, Elengil, who he says he'd so have a crush on for her brain alone if it weren't for the fact that she was already involved. In what he refers to as representing the prevelant opinion amongst those in the APU, he posts Elengil's comments: more...

Exclusive: Prisoner Abuse Photos from Iraq that MSM Won't Show You

**Jawa Report Exclusive**

The Jawa Report has obtained new photos from a new prisoner abuse scandal in Iraq. The photos show Iraqi prisoners being murdered by troops. The photos have not been published by a single mainstream news outlet.

The mainstream media has eagerly published old photos from the old Abu Ghraib scandal. These photos appear to show Iraqi prisoners in U.S. custody being abused, humiliated, and tortured. These old photos from an old scandal are sure to inflame more violence against U.S. troops in Iraq and against the elected government of our Iraqi allies.

The U.S. military has already prosecuted over 25 people over the Abu Ghraib scandal with another 2 soldiers scheduled to go on trial in the next few weeks. The U.S. government treats soldiers involved in such abusive activities as criminals. In fact, the original photos only appeared long after the U.S. military had begun an investigation into the abuses.

There is real abuse still happening in Iraq, though. The mainstream media does not want you to know about this abuse. They have refused to report on it. Even though the images are available to them, they refuse to show them.

These images are quite damning. They clearly show that prisoners in Iraq continue to be abused. More than abused, these images show prisoners in Iraq being murdered by the troops involved. Yet, nothing from the mainstream media.

The images below are not graphic. They show two prisoners in Iraq just before they are murdered by the soldiers holding them. They were both murdered by soldiers in Iraq in the last week. The soldiers holding them openly boast that the prisoners will be killed, even though this is clearly a violation of the Geneva Conventions. It is also clear that those involved are acting on the direct orders of their superiors all the way to the top of their chain of command. Instead of punishment for these acts of torture and murder, they are openly rewarded and praised.

We demand a U.N. investigation into the ongoing murder, rape, torture, humiliation, and abuse that continues to be widespread in Iraq on an almost daily basis. Clearly the mainstream media cannot be trusted to let the world know aobut these ongoing gross violations of international law and morality. more...

ACLU Vs ACLU: Press Release Urges Presumption of Guilt

From a February 15, 2006 American Civil Liberties Union press release [emphasis added]:

WASHINGTON -- The American Civil Liberties Union today urged the House Judiciary Committee to adopt several resolutions that would formally request any and all documents relating to the illegal National Security Agency domestic spying program authorized by President Bush.
Why is the ACLU trying to subvert the Constitution and centuries of American jurisprudence with a presumption of guilt, rather than innocence? Because this is the opening salvo in a bid to strip US counter-terrorism agencies of the power and ability to protect us. When you're busy betraying your country, betraying your own stated principles is a small sacrifice.

Stop the ACLU has the details of ACLU Policy #117, which calls for the emasculation of Federal counter-terror agencies.

The real reason that the ACLU is abandoning its principles in this fight is that they don't want their own conversations with terrorists and terrorist-sympathizers to be monitored. The ACLU's stated goal of protecting civil liberties would appear to be a cover, much like the bogus "peace" organizations during Vietnam and the Cold War, for activities that are clearly hostile to the best interests of the United States.
