9 The World War II analogy is not appropriate. The Japanese people surrendered because their God-Emperor Hirohito surrendered, while the Islamic world has no single leader (the Caliphate was abolished by Kemal Ataturk in 1924). As for Germany, the Americans arrived there not so much as conquerors, as saviors from Communism.
