VDH on Political Paranoia in the West

From The Paranoid Style:

Such a strange, strange world we live in now of David Duke praising Cindy Sheehan's scapegoating Israel.

George Bush who risked his presidency to free millions of Iraqis is to be the moral equivalent of Jefferson Davis — but perhaps is just as hated by the unhinged Right because he is not enough like their beloved Jefferson Davis.

Forcing imperial Japan to surrender is the same as terrorists blowing up the World Trade Center.

And stopping the genocide of Saddam and promoting constitutional government are warmongering.

And all this nonsense transpires in the midst of a war in which the only way we can lose is to turn on each other and give up.

VDH has identified the common thread that runs through all of these counterfeit pearls.

1 Demosophia... wisdom of power, as in you claim to know how power should be used?

2 Demosophia... wisdom of power, as in you claim to know how power should be used? You need to brush up on your Greek. "Demo" means "people" not "power," as in "democracy" (power of the people).

3 I thought cracy was the people...

4 Oh yeah, I was thinking Greek by English way of forming ownershipwords... Guess it's "peoples power" if translated directly.

5 So actually "wisdom of the people", so Demosophia... this one's a tough one to put into English in a form that describes the way I understand it so I'll simplify... is the Demosophists' place to reflect the way they think people 'think of/know about' various things?

6 Oh well... Did the storm get Rusty, or is s/he in... let's say Alaska, to avoid it?

7 VDH is the best. Of course, Hitchens is dang good too. David Duke is not the only one praising Sheehan. This weekend members of stormfront.org showed up to Crawford to mingle with the crowd. I've been monitoring their site and waiting for pictures of them with Sheehan to be posted. The group's leader lives in New Orleans so it may be a while before he has power and can post pics. I'll let you know when it happens. It'll sure beat a photoshopped pic of her with bin Laden. A "real" pic of her with white supremacists.

8 It's funny how the granola people, as I call them, (fruits, nuts, and flakes), who make up the paranoid fringes of our society, have found common ground in standing against what is one of the most noble causes in history. If all the raving moonbats, paranoid nutcases, and closet nazis are coming out against Bush, then I like him more than ever.

9 VDH shows that some profs are in fact smart. In my opinion the best of the "neo-cons". Taught at FSU when my girl was an undergrad - many years ago. Yes another Californian that does not have his/her head up her ass. See Doc we are not all America hating Commies out West. Just a solid majority.
