Pope Said to be Receiving Last Rights

I'm not a Catholic, but Pope John Paul II helped bring down the evil empire that was the Soviet Union. For that I am sure he has a place in heaven.

God speed.

1 The man has been a warrior, and a real man of God. One of the greatest men of our time. He has fought the good fight and endured till the end. Go to your maker, Karol wojtyla.

2 He was a good man who practiced non-violence.

3 Collin, I respect the motivations behind non-violence, but it can't work in the real world. In a world full of killers, the opposite of war is not peace, it's slavery.

4 Ok, the Soviet Union thing was a good thing, but what about his stance against Iraqi freedom?

5 Yup.. it's 3;40 am and the top story is that the Pope is in a coma; he will not come out of this. It's only a matter offf a short time before His Holiness dies. I know I will surely miss him. He has suffered physically for so long that this will be a peace for him and he'll not feel any more pain nor suffering. I know I will be touched by this tremendous loss, unconsolabllle. He's already got his ticket to heaven and when the time comes, may he always be in peace. He will be surely missed and no matter what, no one can really take his place. The man was not only holy incarnate, but was always going somewhere to do something and 10's of thousands greeted him, catholic or not. He was an ambassador for all people and he affected anyone that came up to see him, sobbing before they even reached him. This will be my heartbreaker. Cindy

6 Do you guys really need to fight over the Pope? The only thing we should be doing is praying for him and hope his passing is quick for he's suffered enough. BE RESPECTFUL for crying out loud! ~C

7 Also they said he had a urinary infection and they are saying he could possibly come back. I don't think so personally; it's just a matter of time. (again) ~C

8 They are saying he is responding to antibiotic therapy and is in stable condition. ~C

9 "Pope John Paul II helped bring down the evil empire that was the Soviet Union" HOW?!

Posted by: Night Weasel at April 01, 2005 08:55 AM (tkj+t)

10 Night Weasel: From a current Reuters news story... "Poles Pray, Cling to Hope John Paul Recovers ...His sermons inspired them to challenge their communist rulers and was a major factor behind the birth a year later of the Solidarity movement, which won power after a decade of struggle and hastened the collapse of the whole Soviet bloc. ...Solidarity leader Lech Walesa, who became Poland's first non-communist president in 1990, said the Pope's death would be a blow to Poland and the world. 'I pray that he comes back to health because the world and Poland needs him very much,' he told Reuters."

11 Cindy: Whose fighting?

Posted by: greyrooster at April 01, 2005 09:59 AM (CBNGy)

12 Greyrooster: I think she's referring to someone bringing up his (personal) stance against the Iraqi War. Fine--that's his opinion. And it's George Bush's opinion that the U.S. needed (and still needs) to kick some ass.

13 The Pope suffered a setback while we were sleeping....didn't he go into cardiac arrest? The poor thing...Parkinson's disease really is complicating and contributing to his demise. I pray for a swift, peaceful ending...something Terri Schiavo didn't get. :-(

14 kurtP: When a man is dying you concentrate on the good things he has done. Kicking the dead is not allowed. Unless it's Collin Babbler.
