1 The Syria connection is hardly a surprise - Hussein's regime was a Baathist, so it's not a huge shock to see Baathist governments helping each other. As for Iran, interesting if true. Iran is Shiite Muslim, while Iraq was Sunni during Hussein's reign. Wouldn't the Army of Mohammed be Sunni as a result? And why would Iran help if that was the case?

2 Good point, especially since his knowlege of Iran comes second-hand but his Syria contacts were personal. On the other hand, common enemies sometimes make strange bedfellows.

7 Why would syria help sadaam while they had a tense relationship for a long time? Syria was against Iraq during the Iraqi war against Iran. Syria was also against Iraq during the Kuwait invasion. It doesn't make sense that Syria will support Sadaam now. On the Other hand the Ba'th in Syria is the left wing of that party which went throug a dispute with the right wing which is the Iraqi Ba'th party now. They are two different extremes.
