Daily Dose Of Tolkien Geekery

Since Robbo is off putting flowers in his hair, I'll link to today's (actually yesterday's) chapter of LOTR as presented by Gary, the ex-donkey Tolkien geek par excellance.

I present it without Robert's usual commentary, except to say this; it warms my heart to see that civil rights in this nation have advanced to the point that Star Wars geeks and Tolkien geeks no longer must drink from separate fountains.

I have a dream
That one day, geeks will not be judged by their costumes at the conventions
But by the content of the characters they wish they could be.

UPDATE:

An anonymous commenter asks a vital question:

"What's a 'Tolkein'?"

Thank you, He Who Should Not Be Named, for that inquisitive nature of yours. However, I cannot answer, for I too have no idea what a "Tolkein" is.

I only know Tolkien.

But, if you simply must know, he's the guy that wrote that little read book that became that OTHER famous movie trilogy.

7 Hm. I see some backwards looking folk are still clinging to their geekicist past, upset over the days when Tolkien Geeks and Star Wars Geeks were banned from intermarriage. Hate is not a family value, and mean people suck, Dr. Shackleford.

12 Maximus, I don't have a name for my Colt .45ACP Combat Commander but I named my new Springfield Armory SOCOM shorty. Talk about sweet!

14 I just bought a Mosin-Nagant 91/30 yesterday, and I have yet to name it. Since it's a Russian rifle, it will have to have a Russian name, so I will consult my Russian friend regarding suitable names for bad girls.

15 Maximus, How about Boris?

Posted by: jesusland joe at September 27, 2005 09:05 PM (rUyw4)

16 Umm... I don't think Boris is a girl's name. I've known some Russian girls, and none of them were the "Boris" type.

17 Well, then duh, the obvious choice would be Natasha. How about a generic "babushka?" But what does all this have to do with Tolkien? Heh.
