D.C. Trip Planning Woes

Sorry for the absence today, folks. I'm busy throwing together a student trip to Washington, DC. The problem is that I can't find a place at a reasonable price with enough rooms!! The hotel also needs to be near a Metro stop. I'll be in DC from May 14th to the 22nd.

Any ideas out there?

You're heading a student trip? Sucker! Obviusly, I'm of no help whatsoever.

I know you can get yourself clean and have a good time...but I hear that no matter what your sexual orientation you check in with, you check out gay.

Might want to try something out on the end of the Metro lines in VA... hotels will be cheaper and easier to come by. Your student trip happens to fall in the span of college graduations, which means that rooms in DC will be tough to come by.

Was thinking the same thing...either Maryland or VA would be your best bet...staying in Washington is worse than staying in NYC, price wise.

There's a homeless shelter right near the Capitol building.

Try the Holiday Inn by the zoo...rather appropriate for you and some college students...?

Do your students even know where DC is?

Holiday Inn at 87XX Georgia Ave., in Silver Spring, MD. It's five minutes to the Silver Spring Metro stop, has restaurants and movie theaters (and a mall) equally close. About ten block north of the DC line. During rush hour, it's about 15 minutes to Union Station, just north of the Capitol, on the Red line. If they don't have room, look in VA, along the Blue, Green, or Orange lines, from Rossyln, Fall Church, Ballston, Dun Loring, Alexandria, Pentagon City, Crystal City, etc. A look at a Metro map can give you a good starting point. Of course you don't want to be so far out that you've got a 45-minute commute on both ends.

You might try calling Marion Barry. I understand he always has vacant properties available and you get to stay for free if you agree to hand out these little viles through the mail slot intermittently throughout the day.

As is the custom of Islam, you are welcome to stay at the hostel of my brother Muslim Abdul Shaheed Kareem Hakim Abu Musab Zayeed Rahman Moomar Ibn Ibd Etc Soforth. It is called the Intifada Inn. Look for the hands holding the crossed swords over the driveway. Peace, my brother, we mean you know harm, you are one of the People Of The Book. Just do not forget to pay the Jizya.

The Red Roof in Chinatown (around 5th & E) NW is clean, comfortable and close to a Metro. It's also within walking distance of the Mall. I've stayed in a lot of Red Roofs over the years for dog shows and like them a lot more than many other inexpensive motel chains. I've stayed in the NW DC one several times with good results.

A man with your political orientation might be able to stay at the White House, Yes?

We had to stay at the 4-H Club. It's not that bad...not a hotel, but very clean.

Far be it from me to be generous with other people's homes, but INDC Bill is in the neigborhood. Perhaps he wouldn't mind you crashin' the joint.

Since everybody else seems to be recommending crack houses, whore houses, or Marion Barry's house (guess that's the same thing eh?) I'll give you some substantive advice, and unfortunately I know this because my Mother has been hounding me to make reservations for my Graduation at that same time. Holiday Inn on 15th & Rhode Island is $150 a night and is about 4 blocks from the Metro. A little far depending on how many students want to sleep with you...I mean visit with you but everything else seems to be running $250. Courtyard Marriot downtown right by the convention center was $180. Think it's right near Gallery Place so that's good. Please tell me you aren't coming to "see the Cherry Blossoms." The whole Cherry blossom thing is overrated and frankly kind of dirty.

You can all come and stay at my house if you want, provided the kids don't mind doing a little yardwork.

Right now I'm booked at the Hilton downtown. We're looking at $150 a night. I'd like to find something for like $100 a night if possible. FYI-I'm not looking for a room for ME, I have an open invite at INDC Bill's mom's house ;-)
