Another Dose Of Tolkien Geekery

Since Robbo is still hanging out with the 70 year old hippies in Berkeley visiting the Bay Area, I'll send you to today's dose of Not Written By George Lucas geekery.

This is a synopsis of Book II, Chapter 2, where we learn the history of the Ring.

"One Ring To Rule Them All, One Ring To Find Them,
One Ring To Bring Them All And In The Darkness Bind Them."

Yup, Tolkien was a married man alright.

Oh, and make sure that if you miss a dose of Tolkien Geekery, take the next dose as soon as possible and continue to follow the instructions on the label.

UPDATE:

My anonymous syncophant has asked yet another extremely relevant, deeply insightful, and intellectualy sound question; "Are you sure? I thought this 'Tolkein' dude was gay."

Brilliant inquiry, I must say. I did a Google search, and sure enough, there are several gay Tolkeins out there. Some are even good gay!

But I couldn't find any good or bad gay Tolkiens, even when I narrowed the search to J.R.R.

George Lucas, however, is as queer as a 3 dollar bill. The existence of Jar Jar Binks certainly bears that out.

3 I dunno. Ever notice that both Bilbo and Frodo--the two main protagonists-- were 'confirmed bachelors'?

4 Good point, but you're talking about main protagonists from two separate books, The Hobbit and LOTR. On the other hand, you never saw Obi Wan and Luke gettin' jiggy widit with the opposite gender either. Well, unless you count Luke trying to get funky with his own sister.

5 No, but Obi Wan mentions (in episode III) that he is a pimp. (yes sex, no attachments) And wouldn't you git wid Leia, sister or no? Come on, how you gonna pass on that?

6 Well, I would have, but then the whole Postcards From The Edge whiny schtick gave me the cold shower effect. But come on, man, Obi Wan had Amidala in the bed in the other room and he didn't even THINK to send his young padawan off on some foolish errand for a half an hour. Hell, he would hardly let Anakin out of his sight. Jealousy, pure jealousy.

9 I'll tell you, after having read the Hobbit and the Trilogy back in the early seventies (yes, I'm old) and now having watched the movies a hundred times each, I'd not run across another story quite so riveting until I read the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. I'd highly recommend the stories. Once you start, you can't put the books down. If you like Tolkien, you'll love it. Has anyone else read them?

10 Tolkien claimed to hate allegory, but his works were heavily allegorical. The LOTR series is a classic Good vs. Evil, Civilization vs. the Barbarians story if there ever was one, and it's no accident that the "barbarians" come from the East and South of England, er... Middle Earth, that is.
