Say Goodbye to "The Big Easy!"
The media are
actually underplaying the catastrophic consequences of Katrina. It will change history. The only questions are how much and in what direction? (h/t:

I talked a little bit about the
disaster scenario for New Orleans earlier today. Up to 100,000 people could be dead by this time tomorrow, and New Orleans could be uninhabitable for weeks, maybe months.

Apparently it is not as bad as what was thought. A last minute eastward movement and a quicker than expected weakening of the storm is going to keep things to less than epic proportions.

Katrina and some politics.
Category 5 yes 5 Hurricane Katrina is threatening New Orleans. ItÂ’s a big one.
The storm was moving west-northwest at nearly 12 mph and was expected to turn north-northwest. Forecasters said the weather would start getting rough late Sunday and the eye would strike land early Monday.
The President urged evacuation.
I urge all citizens to put their own safety and the safety of their families first by moving to safe ground," Bush said.
FOXNEWS Sunday reveals the democratic plan for winning the war.
WALLACE: Senator Dorgan, what's the Democratic plan? What specifically would your party do differently in conducting this war?
DUNCAN: Well, first, I mean, this is not about good news or bad news. You know, the fact is we need to get the facts straight about what's happening in IraqÂ…Â…..BLAH BLAH BLAH.
Nice plan.
Senate Majority Whip Mitch McConnell, R-Ky. See got that right this time. Has an easy job pointing out But sir you have not answered the question.
Terror attack in Beersheba injures 21. Captains Quarters has more.
Twenty-one people were wounded Sunday, two seriously, in a suicide bombing at a central bus station in the southern Israeli town of Beersheba, Israeli officials said. ...
I see this goes right along with the Hamas “peace” plan.
We did not achieve the liberation of the Gaza Strip without this holy war and this steadfastness," he said, adding that attacks should continue until Israel is eradicated. Israel's obliteration is Hamas' ultimate goal. Sr. Commander Mohammed Deif.
I see peace by obliteration. Hmm interesting conceptÂ….
Russia gives US senators a hard time. LetÂ’s be sure and see that Lugar and the rest have to say when they get back.
Sens. Richard Lugar, R-Ind., and Barack Obama D-Ill., were held at the airport in Perm but allowed to leave after discussions between U.S. and Russian officials, the embassy spokesperson said on condition of anonymity. The spokesperson also said Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., was delayed in departing from another Russian airport Sunday because of documentation problems.
OK long post. Also the Iraqi constitution will be voted on who knows Ace has his two cents here as well as good hurricane info and other news.

Lodi Muslims Suspect Government Mole
(Lodi, California) The Lodi Muslim community has been rocked by two prominent citizens being implicated in a federal terrorism investigation.
From ABC7News.com:
Hamid Hayat is accused of lying about attending a terrorist training camp in Pakistan. His father, Umer Hayat, was also arrested for lying about his son's involvement.
Muslim leaders in Lodi say since those arrests, a man who'd forged deep ties in the community has now disappeared. Federal prosecutors have revealed they did have a cooperating witness in Lodi, but did not name the person.
What a cheap shot. Blame it on the guy who skipped town. Instead of trying to distance themselves from terrorist activities and summarily denounce terrorism, the Muslims in Lodi are saying that someone ratted them out.
In my estimation, we would probably benefit by having more moles.

I see. One guy disappears and he's automatically the mole. I don't suppose he could be guilty of ties to terrorism and scrammed to avoid getting picked up himself, could he? No, of course not. Let's point out a scapegoat for a rat and not address the issue of the terrorist sympathizers in our midst. Oh yeah, there's that nagging issue of the guys who want to kill a bunch of people, huh? Forgot that.

Did you not just call them arrogant? That, by your own logic, would make you arrogant. And maybe they think what they are doing is right, just like the KKK thinks they are doing whats right. I agree that is ignorant, but that isn't their fault. You are ignorant to judge one group based on the actions of certain individuals.

Terrorist in Canada on Hunger Strike Near Death
How come the Moonbats aren't protesting Canada over that countries holding of Hassan Almrei, an al Qaeda linked terrorists, for the past four years
without being charged? But I thought it was Bush-Hitler that was the only one that did that? The terrorist in question has been on a hunger strike for 65 days. It's not so much his impending deportation to Syria that's bugging him as much as it is the lack of TV in his cell......
Missaugua News:
His closest friends say a Cooksville man accused of being a terrorist is near death as he enters the 65th day of a hunger strike.
A fading Hassan Almrei, 31, spoke to The News yesterday afternoon from the Metro West Detention Centre, where he has been held on a national security certificate for the past four years without being charged. The federal government and the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) allege Almrei is linked to terrorist kingpin Osama bin Laden....
Almrei, a Syrian refugee who came to Mississauga in 1999, is protesting provincial correctional services rules that allow him just 20 minutes a day outside of his cell, and no television or radio in his solitary confinement cell.
"I've been here for four years without charge and under these conditions," he said. "This is something I would expect in Syria or Iraq, but not Canada, the country I came to for freedom. All I am asking for are simple human rights."...
Almrei said he wants an hour a day of fresh air, as well as a radio and television in his cell.
The government's decision to deport Almrei has already been upheld by the federal court.
Now the immigration minister must decide whether the risk Almrei poses to Canada outweighs the risk of Almrei being tortured upon return to Syria.
Meanwhile, Almrei is fighting to be let out on bail.
Several prominent public figures, including Alexandre Trudeau, the son of former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, and former federal New Democratic Party (NDP) leader Alexa McDonough, have offered to put up Almrei's bail.
Oh the torture and inhumanity of not having TV!!
File under hunger strikees we'd like to see succeed. This story is a couple of days old. It will be interesting to see if he chickens out at the last minute and eats.

Rusty Responds to 'Fan Mail' from Dubai
Here is a letter I received from Dubai. I thought you might like to read it. Notice how the self-proclaimed not an antisemite accuses me of being a J-O-O.
Dear sir,
Ive visited your website, n i read almost everything u have there. Dont u think ur too biased?
Karim,
Yes, I am biased. This is my personal website reflecting my personal opinions. By definition, then, this site is biased.
Im an arab muslim who lives in the United Arab Emirates, in Dubai.. You
probably odnt know where that is, cause Americans are too busy to think of
the outside world normally, unless it concerns energy probllems. Dubai is one of the only 5-Star cities in the world (There are only 5 5-star cities).
I know where the UAE and Dubai is. Nice place. I believe Michael Jackson is there now. Of course, by 'nice place' I mean nice as long as you stay within specially designated zones where we infidels are allowed to act like infidels. I'm not so sure I would like the rest of your country where I could not openly practice my chosen religion of South Park Universalistic Hedonism (Missouri Synod). I am required to shout 'Allah is a Buddhist' three times a day at the top of my lungs or I will be excommunicated.
Many foreigners live here, Including European and American people, who happen to love it here.
Personally I'm more into liberty than making a buck, but I understand the allure. The beaches, from what I've seen, look pretty kick ass. Any topless ones?
Dont you think you make us all sound like people who are ready to put guns to the heads of every american and kill them ?
No, I do not. I certainly hope not, at least.
I Have numerous American and English friends who would disagree. I love my american friends, ive lived with them almost all my life, we share respect and trust, and so do our families. We do not seperate Muslims from Christians (that is one of the biggest sins in Islam by the way), we do not see things that way.
I guess you are not a good Muslim then, or at least not a traditionalist, since the Quran and Hadiths explicitly place Christians not living in second-class dhimmi status as part of dar al-harb--a seperate nation. Perhaps you are a reform minded liberal Muslim who has rejected Sharia, most of the Hadiths, most traditional interpretations of the Quran, and has decided to join the 21st Century? I hope so.
We are all peacefull people, who happen to be ill-treated by your government.
Since when has the U.S. government done anything harmful to the people of the United Arab Emirites? Oh, by 'we' you mean 'Muslims'. I thought you didn't seperate people and that was like a big sin or something?
Look at Palestine. Israelis Have been destroying the homes of familes whos sons have suicide bombed places in Israel. U might think "hey, they deserveit, let the bastards take it all, "
Yes, I do. I only wish they made bigger tractors. Hey, how do you people in the UAE treat Jews? Oh, wait, all of them were forced to leave.
But What do u think it takes a man to decide to suicide and kill himself?! Lots of guts, and desperation.
Very true. And hatred. And faith that Allah will accept him into paradise for killing Jews.
Desperation caused by Israeli Forces who kill children and familes, and let kids watch their parents rot infront of them while they surround their house.
Then perhaps the fathers should not be terrorists? That would go a long way in solving that problem.
You dont know a thing about what we fell, you just look at the Israeli perspective.. your probably a jew too, and i dont mean it as an insult.
Again with the we thing. I don't take it as one. I'm not a Jew, although I'm cut, but I would count myself in good company if I was one. Did you know that Natalee Portman is a Jew? Not that it's important, but I'd definitely convert for a pice of that. And if you don't mean it as an insult, then why make the accusation? Unless you think there is something wrong with that?
You have to open your eyes. Your people are rated the most close-minded people on earth, and yes you are.
I'm sure the people of the UAE are much more open minded. I have a Bible, a Book of Mormon, a Theravada, and a Rig-Veda sitting around the office. How about I come to your country and pass them out on the street? Since your people are so 'open-minded' let's see what kind of reaction I would get.

"While it is true that the Caliphate was at one time much more civilized and peaceful than the Western European countries, that time has gone and past long-long ago."
I would not even concede that, Rusty. I so often hear that Islam contibuted this or that...algebra, brought back aristotle, astronomy...in my view, Islam is totalitarian communism in the guise of religion. Algebra was a pagan Persian invention...the concept of zero came from the Hindu...and the bastards invaded Greece. It is nothing more, nor has ever been, anything but a failed ideology, a disgusting, misogynistic abberation that needs to be flushed down the big white toilet of history. It was never more peaceful of civilized; that is just bullshit.

For one thing, Karim is terribly misinformed about things that happen around Israel. Bad things have been done "to" each side "by" each side there. Albeit, one side is vastly more violent.
And he is taking our insults against terrorism and those who commit terrorism personally. Why, Karim?
If this is his way of reaching out to us so that we will better understand him, why does he begin by insulting us with
"You probably odnt(sic) know where that is, cause Americans are too busy to think of the outside world normally, ..."? For Karim to announce that we are all so close-minded he's being awfully closed-minded. If he loves his American friends so much, why would he think the rest of us are any different?

The most distressing aspect of your mail from Karim is that he is the very kind of Moderate Muslim we hear so much about and are depending on to help us defeat the Islamic fascists. When even a "Moderate Muslim" cannot accept that the Muslims have any responsibility for their current straits and appears to not even recognize his own anti-Semitism, the prospects of containing the Jihadists seems dim. Golda Meir said, "we will have peace when the Palestinians love their own children more than they hate ours." Sadly, we are still a very long way from peace.

When dealing with people from those countries one has to be aware that they are all inbred since centuries. The vast mojority is married to 1-degree and second-degree relatives.
What inbreeding does is debilitating to the mind (hence the decompartmentalization of arab personalities, they don't see where they are wrong, their mind doesn't have the capacity to oversee all it's parts) and it produces overaggressivness.
Both is clearly visible in these humans.

I lived in the UAE for six years. Nice place. First off I do not recall any gender separated beaches in Dubai. They are not not even segregated in strict Sharjah. I spent some time on the Jumairah beach (with my wife to be and a friend of hers) and some time sipping ginnentonics on the beaches of Khorfakhan and Fujairah.
It is a big secret but I do recall seeing Jews in the UAE, my uncle for one and a buddy of mine talked about this Jewish woman who made tons of money currency trading for one of the sheiks. Both were treated better than the average Palestinian is. A lot of lip service, oh the Palestinians but I recall one fellow of Palestinian in my office being run out of the country due to security concerns. However, an Israeli stamp in the passport was a problem if your sponsor did not want to help you out of the bind.
Dubai is indeed a great city. The best ribs I have had I ate in a place called Billy Blues (I forget which hotel) in Dubai.
Yes, some of what the UAE does is silly (the ultra hotels and the manmade island project) but it is a good place to live, provided you have the right passport. Five stars? Says who?
I did not live in Dubai, but about 1-1/4 hour drive away in Al-Ain which was on the UAE Oman border (and its Omani sister sister city was Al-Buraimi). The American ex-pats I ran into where overwhelingly to the left (from a little to a lottle) of the political center.
Cheers.

12% Say US Troop Withdrawal Will Stop Terror Attacks
Looks as though "Momma" Sheehan
doesn't even have a respectable minority that agree with "her" stance on Iraq.
August 26, 2005--Just 12% of Americans believe that withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq will stop terror attacks like the summer bombings in London. A Rasmussen Reports survey found that 71% disagree and say that troop withdrawal will not lead to an end of terrorist attacks.
The survey also found that 54% of Americans believe the situation will get worse in Iraq if U.S. troops are withdrawn. Twenty percent (20%) believe the situation will get better in Iraq if American troops leave, while 15% believe that bringing home the troops will have no impact.
Fifty-nine percent (59%) of men believe a troop withdrawal will make the situation worse. That view is shared by 48% of women.
There is a sharp partisan difference on this question. By a 4-to-1 margin, both Republicans and those not affiliated with either major party say that the situation will get worse in Iraq if U.S. troops are withdrawn.
Pretty low percentage considering that at least 12% of the population believe they have been abducted by aliens.

We Killed Fiddy al Qaeda
Are our soldiers as good as Cotton Hill claims? Apparently, yes. Fifty al Qaeda killed in single raid. AP:
U.S. warplanes launched multiple airstrikes Friday against a suspected "terrorist safe house" in the western Anbar province, destroying the building where up to 50 militants were believed to be hiding, the U.S. military said.
Coalition ground forces were alerted by local residents that a number of members of the terror group Al-Qaida in Iraq had gathered in an abandoned building northeast of Husaybah, near the Syrian border about 200 miles west of Baghdad.
Let's hope that bitch Zarqawi was among them. Hat tip to
Chad Evans who notes that this is the second time this week that tips from locals have led to al Qaeda arrests/killings.

That is fifty terrorists that we do not have to explain why they are being detained.
At what point will the ACLU figure this out and demand that they first have a trial before any bombs are dropped on them. I would think that the activites of the ACLU and others will shift military action from raiding the house and taking prisoners to just sending them back to allah and checking the ashes to see whats left on their hard drive.

50? That's nothin. Wait until the US backs off and the Kurds get their revenge (which you'll notice they've been warming up for).
Poor Sunni. Someone told them they'd have an advantage if they refused to participate in forming a representative government and just kept on killing Kurds and Shiites.
Maybe they'll start to figure out that their Syrian "friends" are more trouble for THEM than for the US. Not just the Kurds, but even Al-Sistani won't be able to hold back the Shiites forever from striking back.
The nerve of the US: trying to facilitate a representative government where the minority is protected. Oh well.
Too bad Bush didn't tell everyone to think carefully about who they sign on with. Oh wait, DID he?

It's Time to Take al Sadr Out
Too often our University trained military officers and State Department employees overlook the lessons of WWII and buy into the myth of diplomacy. By conceding ground to Muqtada al Sadr in an effort to have him 'buy in' to the process of creating a nation, we have let a dangerous man create a radical Islamist fiefdom. From
NRO:
Not long after, Sadr was implicated in a massacre in the gypsy village of Qawliya. His Mahdi army tried to abduct a woman accused of prostitution in order to try her in SadrÂ’s kangaroo religious court. When the men of the town resisted, 20 were killed and the town nearly leveled with machine guns, mortars, and RPGs, after which the survivors were beaten and tortured.
Sadr’s victims are not only his fellow Iraqis. The Mahdi army often attacks Coalition forces, on one occasion turning a Sadr City marketplace into a “300-meter-long-kill-zone” in a battle that claimed the life of Sgt. Yihjyh (Eddie) Chen. Many more Americans have died fighting his goons in Najaf and Karbala.
Sadr is accused of being a pawn of TehranÂ’s mullahs as well, helping them subvert the progress of Iraqi democracy. If military action is taken against IranÂ’s nuclear weapons program, SadrÂ’s Al-Mahdi militia could counterattack within Iraq.
One can only imagine how the restive Sunnis in central Iraq fear the prospect of SadrÂ’s growing influence. Why would they support a new Iraqi government that, favoring the Shiite majority as it must, might eventually make Sadr their de facto ruler?
Read it all. This Clinton W. Taylor dude is one sharp playah. It's surprising to learn he got through his grad school classes with an attitude like that. He must read the Jawa.

Sadr is a useful tool to show the Sunnis that we aren't the enemy. Once we have the Sunnis back on the reservation, then it'll be time to go after Sadr. One fight at a time is the smart way to do it, enlisting allies from former enemies.

I read a report recently that Sadr's goons are mixing it up with SCIRI. Looks to me like Tubby McFatwah has had a falling out with with his supporters in Iran, or possibly there's a power-struggle in Iran for control over their attempts to destabilize Iraq.

Dr. Shackleford, Sadr will not be Sistani's replacement. He doesn't have the genetics, and besides, he is an Iranian sock puppet.
We tried to have him arrested for the machete murder of a competing cleric just after Gulf II, but couldn't do it. And we don't do assassinations.

Take him out? Dr. Rusty, you've been watching 700 Club again ... besides the fact that al-Sadr is a nasty little bugger, he happens to be the nasty little bugger on the side of OUR nasty little bugger, Ahmad "You tell me, I'll tell the Ayatollah" Chalabi. Their alliance is just ONE of the U.S. military's big problems in Iraq (the others being the insurgency, the sunnis, the shiites, the Iranians, the oil, the kurdish separatists, the oil THEY've got, the former baathists, the foreign fighters, the Iraqi population and Donald Rumsfeld) ... al-Sadr and Chalabi try to lend each other legitimacy, despite the fact that supposedly, the REAL power in Iraq, Iranian ulta-mullah Sistani, supposedly can't stand either man.
So the question is, if we "take out al-Sadr" what will that really buy us? the answer, to quote Jeb Bush during his failed 1994 gubernatorial campaign, "probably nothing."
Then again, I may not be up on who our scurilous allies are in Iraq these days, since I try to avoid the Neocon drivel on NRO and the Weekly Standard unless I absolutely have to... (or ate too many cheeseburgers over the weekend and am looking to make myself throw up...) /note to any of my lefty friends who happen to be reading Jawa, I was just kidding on that last one. please don't protest outside my house.../

JReid, I was still kind of on the fence about Chalabi --I know smart people who are for him and against him--but that was before he took up for Sadr. I think AC's worn out his welcome.

Two Senior Police Killed in Sinai Sweep
(Cairo, Egypt) According to the Egyptian Interior Ministry, two senior police officers were killed by land mines during the
massive manhunt for terrorists in the Sinai.
From the Arab News:
Maj. Gen. Mahmoud Adel and Lt. Col. Omar Abdel Moneim were the highest ranked police officers killed in Egypt since a violent insurgency in the mid-1990s and the first slain since about 4,000 security personnel launched a massive sweep Sunday of the northern Sinai for suspects linked to July's triple Sharm El-Sheik attacks and October's bombings at the Taba and nearby Ras Shitan resorts.
Yesterday's blasts occurred after two land mines exploded on the 1,800-meter high Halal mountain, about 60 kilometers south of the Mediterranean coastal town of El-Arish, the Interior Ministry said in a statement.
On conditions of anonymity, officials stated that they believe fugitives, who traditionally hide in the Sinai's mountains, planted the mines. Egyptian security forces have detained 650 people thus far in the Sinai sweep which started last Sunday. A primary target still at large is Salem Khadr El-Shenoub, suspected of harboring terrorists linked to the Taba and Ras Shitan attacks.
Also worthy of mentioning is that the indigenous Bedouin tribesmen, steeped in knowledge of hideouts and smuggling routes, have emerged as key suspects sometimes and valuable informers at other times. However, in general, it's believed that the tribesmen collaborate with the terrorists at a level less than originally thought due to significantly different ideologies and interests. For instance, the autonomous Bedouins do not like to have the police looking at their affairs which is exactly what happens if they collaborate with the terrorists. So, unless there are family ties, I suspect the tribesmen don't provide a lot of help to the terrorists.

Protein Wisdom Emits Small Pearl About APSA
Next week is the annual APSA (American Political Science Association) convention, which will be held this year in Washington, DC. A number of us affiliated with The Jawa Report plan to attend, but we'll probably not be in the majority. The unofficial theme of this conference of PoliSci eggheads is something like: "Dare We Call It Fascism?" And you know what the "it" is.
So, given that situation I found this observation by Jeff Goldstein of Protein Wisdom darn near irresistible, bless his heart:
If it weren’t so very sad and transparent, it might just be amusing how many scholars in today’s progressivist academy purport to be “investigating” questions they are quite clearly begging, only to act “intrigued” by the cumulative “findings” they’ve so clearly predetermined.
Alas.
I'm planning to wear a small "stars and stripes" in my lapel pocket, just for the sheer Saul Alinsky in-your-face irony of it all. Anyone else willing to make the statement link to this post, or to the crosspost on Demosophia (or both) and we'll set up a meeting time and place. It'll be fun.
Update: Rusty has a better idea. Either leave a comment here, with your despammed email address or email me or Rusty.

The Rosary of the Left: Hail Cindy Sheehan, full of grace....
The Rosary of the the far left:
1) Make the Sign of the Ankh and say the "Leftist Creed."
I believe in Gaia, the Mother, who is the Spirit of earth; and in Casey, Her only Son, our fallen Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Lesbian Union of Gaia and Cindy, suffered under George W. Bush, was shot, died, and was buried. Mother Sheehan descended into Crawford, Texas; the third day she went back to California, only to reappear in Crawford. She will ascend into heaven after following around and pestering the Great Satan, and sit at the right hand of The Great Universal Spirit or Spirits (choose gender and number), the Almighty; from thence She shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in Noam Chomsky, the Holy Univerity Curriculum, the communion of all anti-establishment forces, the forgiveness of every one, especially those who don't change their ways, and the inevetable coming of the Communist Utopia. Amen.
2) Say the "Our Mother."
Our mother, who dwells in everything; hallowed be Thy name; Thy Socialist kingdom come; Thy will be done, or we will force it upon every one. Give us this day our daily organic bread; and no need to forgive us our tresspass since no one can own Mother Earth, and lead us not into corporate temptation; but deliver us from evil. Amen.
3) Say three "
Hail Cindys."
Hail Cindy, full of grace, Gaia is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Casey. Holy Cindy, The Incarnation of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death at the hands of greedy multinational corporations and Zionist neocons. Amen.
4) Say the "
Glory be to the Trinity."
Glory be to the Mother Earth, and to the Mother Earth Incarnate Cindy, and to the Holy Communion of all pre-Christian deities and New Age Universal Spirits. As it was in the beginning before mankind destroyed the Earth, and ever shall be after the overthrow of Bushhitler, world without end. Amen.
5) Announce the first mystery (
The Annunciation of Cindy by the Channeled Spirit of Zorfor, a Third Century BCE Zorastrian Mystic) then repeat "Our Mother."
6) Say ten "Hail Cindys," while meditating on the Mystery of the Annunciation.
7) Say the "Glory be to the Trinity."
Announce the Second Mystery (The Visitation of Cindy Sheehan to the Students Against the War Rally at San Francisco State University); then say the "Our Mother." Repeat 6 and 7 and continue with Third (The Naivite), Fourth (The Presentation of the Uturus to Mother Earth) and Fifth (The Finding of Cindy at a Lecture by Edward Said) Mysteries in the same manner.
After the Rosary:
HAIL, HOLY QUEEN, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of losing every election; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb. O clement, O loving, O sweet Mother Cindy!
Drum Circle Leader: Pray for us, O Holy Mother of Our Hopes.
Hippies Respond: That we may be made worthy of the promises of Marx.
Let us pray. O Gaia, whose only begotten Daughter, by Her life, Her son's death, and the resurrection of our hopes that this war will turn into another Vietnam, has purchased for us the rewards of political victory, grant, we beseech Thee, that meditating upon these mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Cindy Sheehan, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through the same Cindy Sheehan. Amen.
After each decade say the following prayer requested by the Blessed and Holy Ward Churchill: "O my Cindy,
forgive the sins of the PNAC Zionist pigs and Imperialist aggressors who forced the brave freedom fighters of al Qaeda to kill the deserving collaboraters, save us from the fires of Guantanamo Bay, lead all souls to protest McChimpy's war, especially those who have most need of a bath, a job, and a steady dose of lithium. Amen."

I wonder if there's someone around who is already kind of "famous" and who has a son in Iraq who might set up some kind of media events, and start making speeches that include all these talking points about Cindy Sheehan? Find someone more photogenic and appealing than Cindy Sheehan and shove her ass right off the page.
I mean, the whole phenomenon is stupid, to be sure, but if this is the level that MSM operates on why not play the game, and do it better? We've got "Babes for Bush," who are clearly better looking and more appealing than their idiotarian counterparts, so why can't be do the same thing with some more mature women who are service moms? I know they rounded up some of these folks, but did they pay much attention no the PR appeal when they did it? If not, it won't grab much media attention.

Hey, did you see that story about the BS letters from the little girll being pushed by a campus newspaper in Illinois? For two years they published letters from a "little girl" (complete with cute little girl mispelling) asking her daddy in Irak not to die and then published letters from "the little girl" to President Bush when "he does die". Do you have your own soldier in Irak?

If the press suppresses a story, is that a lack of press freedom? One would think that if a segment of the population were not being represented within the press that the market potential would motivate some new entries. As a result, I'm less inclined to see this as bias, than to see it as a kind of industry-wide paradigm failure. They have what they think is the "hot story," and it's easy to just keep churning out the same old boilerplate, so anything that makes the job tougher or more challenging is just ash-canned.
I mean, FOX isn't reporting the full story either.

TTLB Hijinks
Rusty
notes that we've moved from 28th to 18th in one day, and he's skeptical.
My individual blog leapt up 1,000 places in a day, and I've noticed some wild fluctuations in link numbers for Reynolds and Malkin. One possible explanation for all this is that NZ periodically cleans out the
splogs, and bloggers purge their systems of spam, which alters the ecosystem's distribution and also changes the "species boundaries," which are probably based on statistical algorithms. The splog purges would tend to impact highly linked blogs more than those of us in the lower life forms, because the larger hit counts are more attractive to the spammers.
I'm not an expert here, and I'm not even sure how splogging works, but from a statistical standpoint it makes sense.

I'm up almost 1,000 spots. Everyone can't be moving up.
I think there is a bigger explanation out there.

Now Michelle isn't even listed! Jawa has dropped one spot, to 19th, and I've risen another 300 places (plus the 1000 I'd already piled up). Definitely something screwy.

Mad Dog:
Dude, you've like, "companion posted at Demosophia" at least 1300 times though. I've counted.
Yeah, it'd be great if TTLB counted that, but unfortunately it all counts as one link. :-( And since I'm on the blogroll anyway, it's all worthless in terms of the ranking. Now, if it were 1300 separate blogs that'd be different.

Same on mine, which was up to "Flappy Bird" for about a day and a half. It's back down to "Slithering Reptile" now.

OK, I admit it. Something is really screwed up. My "inbound unique" links dropped in half overnight, yet I'm still listed as a marauding marsupial and I continued to
move up in the ecosystem, and my average daily visits suddenly leapt up by 50%. Total nonsense.
Posted by: Demosophist at August 27, 2005 01:43 PM (zYg27)

I dropped 8,000 places over the weekend.
My placing is probably more accurate now that my numbers more reflect the number of links that I am amare of which is about 15 and not the 102 the ecosystem seemed to think I had. I wonder if it was counting links from my posts to my blog.
As disheartning as it might be, I would rather have an accurate reading of where my blog stands, which apparently is pretty darn low.

'Allies' in Yemen Threaten to Behead Journalist
Jane at Armies of Liberation has the scoop:
Jamal ‘Amir, editor in chief of the Yemenite independent weekly Al-Wasat said armed men blindfolded him, pushed him into a vehicle and took him to a remote location near the capital ‘Sana.
They beat him and threatened to cut off his tongue or to kill him and behead him, the London-based Al-Hayyat reported. He was released more than four hours laterÂ….
Just armed thugs, right? Maybe al Qaeda?
The assailants, dressed in plain clothes but driving a vehicle with military license plates, beat Amer and threatened to kill him. They warned Amer that his childrenÂ’s safety would be threatened if he continued with his investigative reporting or reported his abduction to the authorities. Reports say the assailants condemned Amer for writing on corruption within the government and interrogated him about other writers and editors at Al-Wasat.

Massive Manhunt on for Terrorists in Germany (UPDATE: Caught)
UPDATE: The men have been caught and they are Chechens.
Via ITB this from Reuters:
Three Chechen men who were overheard at a bus stop talking about becoming “heroes before Allah” were detained and questioned on Friday after sparking a major security alert in Germany, but police said they did not appear to have been planning an attack.
Hamburg police said the men, aged from 21 to 25, had been found after a manhunt in which more than 1,000 officers had thrown up overnight roadblocks and scoured GermanyÂ’s second city.
Hamburg police chief Reinhard Chedor told a news conference: “At the moment I don’t believe there were any concrete attack plans.” He said the men were being held for further questioning and declined to give further details.
------------------
Elections are coming up in Germany and Schroedder is trailing in the polls. Now is the time to get tough on terrorists. Notice the Clintonian policy of not starting a manhunt for the terrorists because police didn't want to interfere in a criminal investigation. Treating terrorism as common act of criminality is what gave us 9/11. Also, recall that Hamburg was at the center of the 9/11 plot. Radical Islamists roots run deep in that city.
LA Times:
More than 1,000 police officers were deployed Thursday to search for three suspected terrorists, a police spokesman said.
Roadblocks and controls were set up at 12 points in this northern port city after an Arabic-speaking witness overheard the men praising Allah and heroism Wednesday at a bus stop. One was carrying a backpack.
Police said the three men had been recorded by video surveillance cameras and their pictures would be released.
"We don't know at this point whether there is something to the tip or not," Hamburg state Interior Minister Udo Nagel said at a news conference. There were no concrete clues about any attack, he said.
The witness told police he heard one of the men use the phrase "heroism before Allah." The men then boarded a bus.
A police official said the launch of the search and release of information was delayed a day because the police did not want to jeopardize their initial criminal investigation.
Hat tip to

Oh, how nice. They're looking for terrorists they will probably either let go or give a light sentence to. And then they'll blame the US and then the rest of Europe will chime-in agreeing. I can't wait.

Jawa is #18?
Ecosystem must be way screwed up.
I, for one, find it hard to believe that this blog could go from 28 to 18 in a matter of days, and not have a single post with more than 5 trackbacks.

We gave up on TTLB when we went from 32 to 300 overnight, with no change in links. After that, it got worse. We now concentrate on traffic, which is fine, and discount the TTLB all together.
That having been said, Jawa Report us a damned good blog and deserves the rank. Let's hope TTLB is right for once - and keeps JR up there were it ought to be.

Either The Ecosystem or Sitemeter has to be having a hickup. bRight & Early has moved up to #201 while average daily visitors have gone down below 50/day. But until the universe rights itself I'm going to claim the title, "The Most Linked To Blog No One Is Reading." (And all of this without being on the Jawa Report blogroll).
