Iranian Silkworm Missile Tested

Silkworm MissileOn Friday, Iran began major military maneuvers involving submarines, warships, missiles, jet fighters and gunships in the Sea of Oman and the Indian Ocean. Yesterday, the second Iranian-built submarine was commissioned and it's reported to be able to launch torpedoes and missiles simultaneously.

Earlier today, Iranian television reported that Silkworm surface-to-sea missiles (photo) with a range of 110 kilometers (68 miles) were successfully tested. Increased numbers of Silkworm sites have been established along the Persian Gulf coast, posing a significant security threat.

I think it would be foolish to ignore the Iranian arms buildup.

Transcript of President Bush in Philly

So with Rusty giving finals you might want to read this. IÂ’ve read it.

FOXNEWS because CNN's headline sucks air already): People across the broader Middle East are drawing and will continue to draw inspiration from Iraq's progress. And the terrorists' powerful myth is being destroyed. In a 1998 fatwa, Osama bin Laden argued that the suffering of the Iraqi people was justification for his declaration of war on America. Now bin Laden and al-Qaeda are the direct cause of the Iraqi people's suffering. As more Muslims across the world see this, they're turning against the terrorists. As the hope of liberty spreads in the Middle East, the terrorists will lose their sponsors, lose their recruits and lose the sanctuaries they need to plan new attacks. A free Iraq's not going to be a quiet Iraq. It'll be a nation full of passionate debate and vigorous political activity. It'll be a nation that continues to face some level of violence. Yet Iraqis are showing they have the patience and the courage to make democracy work. And Americans have the patience and courage to help them succeed.

I'm buried in SCOUNIX all day.

Talabani Doesn't Believe German Hostage Will Be Killed

Perhaps a case of whistling past the graveyard, but Iraqi President Jalal Talabani thinks that German hostage Susanne Osthoff will not be killed. Osthoff is an archaeologist abducted nearly two weeks ago. From United Press International:

"There is no reason or motive for terrorists to kill a German citizen," he said in a television interview Sunday night. "Germany did not have any troops here and did not take part in the war."

"We have tried our best to find out where she is and which group is behind the kidnapping," he told German public TV station ARD, adding that he deemed it helpful for German politicians to continue to speak publicly about the kidnapping.

Unfortunately, terrorists do a lot of things without rational reason or motive, but we can only hope that Talabani is right on this.

Osthoff's kidnapping has been overshadowed in the news by the abductions of the four Christian Peacemaker Teams members.

Poll, Broad Optimism in Iraq

Well what do you know, the people of Iraq are far more optimistic about their present and future circumstance than we are. Someone needs to get over there and convince them they can't believe their lying eyes.

Dec. 12, 2005 ABC— Surprising levels of optimism prevail in Iraq with living conditions improved, security more a national worry than a local one, and expectations for the future high. But views of the country's situation overall are far less positive, and there are vast differences in views among Iraqi groups — a study in contrasts between increasingly disaffected Sunni areas and vastly more positive Shiite and Kurdish provinces.

An ABC News poll in Iraq, conducted with Time magazine and other media partners, includes some remarkable results: Despite the daily violence there, most living conditions are rated positively, seven in 10 Iraqis say their own lives are going well, and nearly two-thirds expect things to improve in the year ahead.
Surprisingly, given the insurgents' attacks on Iraqi civilians, more than six in 10 Iraqis feel very safe in their own neighborhoods, up sharply from just 40 percent in a poll in June 2004. And 61 percent say local security is good — up from 49 percent in the first ABC News poll in Iraq in February 2004.

Nonetheless, nationally, security is seen as the most pressing problem by far; 57 percent identify it as the country's top priority. Economic improvements are helping the public mood.
Average household incomes have soared by 60 percent in the last 20 months (to $263 a month), 70 percent of Iraqis rate their own economic situation positively, and consumer goods are sweeping the country. In early 2004, 6 percent of Iraqi households had cell phones; now it's 62 percent. Ownership of satellite dishes has nearly tripled, and many more families now own air conditioners (58 percent, up from 44 percent), cars, washing machines and kitchen appliances.

There are positive political signs as well. Three-quarters of Iraqis express confidence in the national elections being held this week, 70 percent approve of the new constitution, and 70 percent — including most people in Sunni and Shiite areas alike — want Iraq to remain a unified country.

"Surprising levels of optimism"??? Only the MSM and the left are surprised because they are the only ones believing their own bullsh!t. The majority of us in the know aren't a bit suprised by these numbers having never bought into the erroneous propaganda.

Son Says CBS' Mike Wallace To Have Competency Hearing

Chris Wallace, a Fox News anchor, and the son of CBS newsman Mike Wallace, stated on a radio show on Friday that his father has "lost it" and the family intends to have a competency hearing. The younger Wallace's comments came after being questioned about his father saying that the country was "[expletive]-up" for electing President George Bush.

From Newsmax:

"He's lost it. The man has lost it. What can I say," the younger Wallace lamented to WRKO Boston radio host Howie Carr on Friday.

"He's 87-years old and things have set in," the Fox anchor continued. "I mean, we're going to have a competence hearing pretty soon."

Wallace Jr. quickly dispelled any notion that he was joking. When Carr suggested that his comments were likely to be covered by NewsMax, he responded: "You know what? Fine. Go ahead. Call them. That's fine. I'll stand by that."

Chris Wallace also had this to say about Howard Dean's statement that the US would lose the war in Iraq:
"We are in a war. We do have 150,000-plus American soldiers over there. I mean, it's Tokyo Rose, for God sakes, going on radio saying we can't win the war."

Nope, Nothing To See Here

SYDNEY, Australia Dec 11, 2005 — Thousands of drunken white youths attacked police and people they believed were Arab immigrants at a Sydney beach on Sunday, angered by reports that youths of Lebanese descent had assaulted two lifeguards.

Um, seeing is believing.

Those dirty rotten drunken Aussies, always causing problems with those peaceful religionists.

Because, as we all know, the Bali bombings weren't bombings at all, just the result of some drunken Aussie spilling his liquor and accidentally igniting it with a cigarette.

So who started this little escapade? It sure as hell wasn't the natives.

Patrick al-Kafir has the details, and a link to the front lines.

Iraqi insurgents urge Sunnis to vote, warn Zarqawi

FALLUJA/RAMADI Iraq (Reuters) - Saddam Hussein loyalists who violently opposed January elections have made an about-face as Thursday's polls near, urging fellow Sunni Arabs to vote and warning al Qaeda militants not to attack.

In a move unthinkable in the bloody run-up to the last election, guerrillas in the western insurgent heartland of Anbar province say they are even prepared to protect voting stations from fighters loyal to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, leader of al Qaeda in Iraq.

Graffiti calling for holy war is now hard to find.

Instead, election campaign posters dominate buildings in the rebel strongholds of Ramadi and nearby Falluja, where Sunnis staged a boycott or were too scared to vote last time around.

"We want to see a nationalist government that will have a balance of interests. So our Sunni brothers will be safe when they vote," said Falluja resident Ali Mahmoud, a former army officer and rocket specialist under Saddam's Baath party.

"Sunnis should vote to make political gains. We have sent leaflets telling al Qaeda that they will face us if they attack voters."

This is the most significant development in Iraq since the first election and it's the beginning of the end for the terrorists. The only meaningful ally these murderous scumbags have is turning their back on them and joining the political process. In the very near future al Qaida will become so isolated and marginalized in Iraq as to be completely irrelevant.

Iranian Militants Abducted in Iraq

From a CENTCOM press release:

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- Two members of the PeopleÂ’s Mojahedin of Iran, Hossein Pouyan and Mohammad-Ali Zahedi from the City of Ashraf, were reported to authorities as abducted on Aug. 4 in eastern Baghdad while on a routine logistics trip. The residents of Camp Ashraf have been considered protected persons under the fourth Geneva Convention since June 2004.

Upon receiving reports of the abduction, Multi-National Force - Iraq requested that the Iraqi Police investigate the incident and is assisting in attempts to locate the missing individuals.

MNF-I requests that anyone in possession of information on the whereabouts of these two individuals to contact the Iraqi Police or MNF-I at the email address below.

The PMOI, also know as Mujahedin-e Khalq, is a little-known group, apparently welcomed into Iraq by the Saddam Hussein regime during its war with Iran. PMOI was designated as a "terrorist organization" by the US State Department in 1997, and the organization's UK-based media arm has been fighting to get the designation changed.

No reason has been given for the long delay in reporting the abductions.

Hostages Fate Unknown

As of Sunday morning there is still no word on the CPT hostages or verification of the fate of Ronald Schultz. Last week in internet posting claiming a murder of a hostage calling that hostage an “American Pig” and also coinciding with a deadline that had been set by the criminal thugs for Mr. Schultz. Over the weekend the body of an Egyptian man one Mohammed Ibrahim al-Hilali was found dumped like garbage on the side of the road. Here at The Jawa Report Rusty makes a great effort to keep hostages in the news. So no matter the nationality we all hope and pray for the release or rescue of all hostages and for the families of those who have been murdered. The discovery of Mr al-Hilali’s body brings me hope that Mr. Schultz may have been confused with him as the released statement was vauge. Let us not forget that hope comes at the expense of Mr. Al-Halili and his family’s loss. Also it shows that these criminals have no regard for anyone and the threats of death are real as Jawa readers are so painfully aware.

CNN:An Egyptian man was found dead near Tikrit on Saturday, a day after gunmen abducted him from his home of 10 years in the northern part of the city. Mohammed Ibrahim al-Hilali, who was a contractor doing business with the U.S. military, was found Saturday morning on a road between Tikrit and Baiji, police said.

GOP Highlights Democrat Surrender Monkey Wing

The Republican National Committee has released a new video featuring cut and run soundbites from prominent Democrats. Excerpt:

HOWARD DEAN:"The idear that we're gonna win this war, is an idear that unfortunately, is just plain wrong."
Each new soundbite is preceded by a white flag waving across the screen. Undoubtedly, the featured Dems will claim to have been misquoted or taken out of context.

The undeniable message, which comes at the end of the video, is that our troops and our enemies are watching the antics of the surrender donkeys.

McDonald's Orders Anti-War Activist to Cease and Desist

McDonald's has ordered anti-war/anti-military activist Michael Crook to stop displaying this image on his Citizens Against The Troops website:

Mcpwned.jpg

The caption on the sign reads, "Over 2,000 scumbags pwned", referring to US casualties in Iraq.

Crook has posted a copy of the cease and desist letter:

Your Websites make improper use of McDonald's famous "Golden Arches" logo and its "Mc" prefix mark. In particular, your Website displays McDonald's famous "Golden Arches" logo and the phrase "McPwned" and uses McDonald's red and yellow trade dress on your homepage.

Crook counters in his response that the image on his websites constitutes fair use as a parody. Of course, Crook's "parody" has no connection to McDonald's, and it's easy to see why no responsible business owner would want to be linked in any way to Crook's website.

Will Crook prevail, or will he be mercilessly bitch-slapped, as he was when he appeared on Hannity & Colmes?

You Won't See The Sunni Clerics On This One, Either

Karim Salam.

You can debate all you want as to whether this hostage or that deserved their fate, we don't think any of them deserve it, unless it can be conclusively proven that it was staged.

But I dare anyone to defend this.

Do it. I dare you to justify the kidnapping of an 8 year old boy.

Go ahead, try it. Those of you who think the CPT people are getting their just due, tell me how this boy is getting his. Those of you who scream Bush lied people died, you tell me how someone who would kidnap an 8 year old boy is a "freedom fighter" or a "minuteman."

Go ahead, I f'ing dare you.

Whiskey (Pete) Tango Foxtrot? Part Two: Transcript

I sat down and watched that RAI crockumentary (linked here if you're a masochist, or, if you are not alone, a sadist) about U.S. "atrocities" and White Phosphorus use in Fallujah, and was not especially surprised at its mendacity and uselessness. There were countless shots of bloated, burned corpses without any explanation or context, though they certainly created the impression of all the bodies being victims of American aggression. It was a documentary achievement on the order of The Clinton Chronicles, but without the sex.

Key to the film was the testimony of one Jeff Engelhardt, who I mentioned in this post because Sachi and Dafydd ab Hugh at Big Lizards had some questions about his veracity--especially because he kept slipping up with the soldier-talk and saying things like "Whiskey Pete" instead of "Willie Pete" and "chain gun missile launchers" that even a skulking neocon chickenhawk Barcalounger commando like yours truly recognized as being way off the mark.

But I've since found the unedited footage of the RAI interview of Spc. Engelhardt, and darn it, I can't quite find the link anywhere now, but I did manage to write up a transcript of the interview. Although it's long, I think you will find it quite illuminating (snicker) on the matter of Whiskey Pete.

If you haven't watched the RAI insurgent propaganda/documentary yet, and you're not missing much, it will help as you read this to picture Engelhardt as a younger version of Jeff Bridges' Jeff "the Dude" Lebowski character.

RAI: You were a Cavalry Scout. What were your positions within your unit?

JE: Well, I did participate in combat operations, slashing at civilians and schoolchildren with sabers as we "tooted" our bugles—which is, that’s the lingo, see, for a kind of military trumpet—but at first I was just feeding the horses.

RAI: Ah, I see. Which Cavalry unit were you with again?

JE: TheÂ…It was the 909th Regimental Motorized Brigade. Of the storied Fighting 11th Montagnard Corps.

RAI: Can you be more specific, just so we can establish yourÂ…

JE: Right. Um, right. See, I was in this special company called theÂ…umÂ…PenisÂ…the Penis Dogs.

Where Were Sunni Clerics When They Murdered Ronald Schulz? or Remembering the forgotten hostages in Iraq

Recent headlines all over the world boast that Sunni clerics have called for the immediate release of four Western peace activists held hostage in Iraq. Why is it news when Muslims call for the release of hostages? Why is it news when any one calls for the release of hostages? The very nature of 'news' is that it documents the unusual, and not the mundane.

Any human being with any amount of decency deplores the kidnapping of civilians in Iraq. They deplore it even more when those hostages are murdered in the name of Islam after a mock sharia trial finds the hostages guilty of 'apostasy', 'collaboration', or of 'spying for the Zionist-Crussadors'. Moreover, any decent human being should deplore these hostage takings and murders regardless of who those hostages are.

If we show our concern by our actions, then many Sunni Muslim clerics, Leftist activists, and even many Christians are not, in fact, decent human beings. Why is this?

Headlines have recently told the story of calls for the release of four Western Peace Activists by Muslim clerics around the world. Joining their call for the release of those activists were former hostage Terri Waite and even a captured al Qaeda operative from his jail cell. In fact, pretty much all the forces opposed the U.S. have joined their united voices in condemning this disgusting act of barbarity.

We, of course, add our voices to those calling for the hostages release. What dismays us, though, is their deafening silence when it comes to the other hostages who are being held or who have been murdered in Iraq. These forgotten hostages have no advocacy groups behind them, and relatively few people seem to care about their plight at all.

Where were all of these Muslim clerics, 'Christians', & Left-wing activists when the Islamic Army in Iraq was threatening to murder Ronald Schulz? The American civilian hostage was murdered in Iraq yesterday without even so much as a blink from those so urgently calling for the release of the four peace activists taken hostage in Iraq: Norman Kember, Thomas Fox, James Loney and Harmeet Singh Sooden. Where is their outrage?

The duplicity of these groups reveals their inhumanity and gross sense of justice. An American's life is not worth fighting for when he is in Iraq to help rebuild that country. Not a word from Sunni Muslim clerics begging the Islamic Army in Iraq to release him. Not a word from a single Arab leader wishing for the release of a man who was engaged to a Jordanian woman. Not a word from a single 'Christian' group worried about the welfare of a presumably Christian man. Not a word from the Left.

No, these groups sympathies are not with the four peace activists because they are innocent civilians caught by a group of ruthless terrorist thugs. No, the Left-- including the 'Christian' Left -- and Muslim clerics reserve their efforts only to freeing those who they deem 'worthy'. The four peace activists are worthy of their efforts only because they were in Iraq to document abuses by American soldiers and were against the war. Sunnic clerics call for their release not because hostage-taking and murder is wrong, but because they had "condemned the war in Iraq." Had they been four American Halliburton employees, we would hear nothing from them.

The words of Markos Zunigas, from The Daily Kos, describing his feelings about the burnt bodies of American civilians being strung up by a mob in Iraq expresses precisely what these people think of innocent civilians who are not politically alligned with them: "screw them." The depths of their hypocrisy and inhunity knows no bounds.

Lest we forget -- and we would judging by MSM coverage -- there are a number of hostages currently being held in Iraq in addition to the four pacifists who have received so much attention lately. We pray for ALL of their releases because hostage taking and murdering captives is inhumane, immoral, and uncivilized behavior. They are:

German archaeologist Susanne Osthoff
French engineer Bernard Planche
American businessman Jeffrey Ake
American civilian Dean Sadek
American soldier Keith Maupin is listed as MIA.

If we have forgotten anybody, our apologies, but the lack of coverage from the media makes it extremely difficult to follow the plight of any hostage who does not have the sympathies of the Left.

Iraqis Turn in Al Qaeda 'Butcher of Ramadi'

Another victory in the war on terror. Another one bites the dust.

Centcom:

CAMP BLUE DIAMOND, Iraq —The number three terrorist on the 2nd Brigade Combat Team (28th Infantry Division) High Value Individual list was detained Dec. 9 in the provincial capital of ar Ramadi.

Amir Khalaf Fanus, an al-Qaeda in Iraq terrorist in the Ramadi area, was wanted for criminal activities including murder and kidnapping. Today, local Iraqi citizens brought him to an Iraqi and U.S. Forces military base in Ramadi.

Fanus, also known in Ramadi by his Iraqi moniker, “the Butcher,” was well-known for his crimes against the local populace. He is the highest ranking al Qaeda in Iraq member to be turned into Iraqi and U.S. officials by local citizens.

His capture is another indication that the local citizens tire of the terroristsÂ’ presence within their community. Iraqi and U.S. Forces have witnessed increasing signs of citizens fighting the terrorists within Ramadi as the Dec. 15 National Elections draw nearer.

America, F*** YEAH!! More good news here including oodles of terrorists caught with their pants down and other stuff the MSM will bury in the back pages.

ITB also on the case.

Spain Nabs Seven Bad Guys

Spanish authorities have announced that they have captured seven terror financiers. The seven are said to have helped finance the al Qaeda linked GSPC.

BBC:

At least seven people have been arrested in Spain on suspicion of helping to fund an Islamist terror group said to have links with al-Qaeda....

He said the detainees were suspected of raising money and providing logistical support for the Salafist Group for Call and Combat - an Algerian-based extremist group.

He said the group was "perfectly structured", had a hierarchy and was dedicated to committing petty crime and forging documents and credit cards.

Mr Alonso added that money was sent to Algeria either in person or through a complex system of bank transfers that made it difficult to trace.

It's interesting to note that the BBC actualy uses the word 'salafist' to describe the terror oranization. Many in the West believe Wahhabism is the major Islamic problem, but it isn't. Salaafiyism is.
