Maj Gen Shaukat Sultan, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf's spokesman, said: "Casualties will be high... they could be well over 1,000."Details are unavailable since telephone networks are damaged and mobile systems are overwhelmed. Scores of people are feared trapped or killed in buildings reduced to rubble.Interior Minister Aftab Sherpao told local television: "We have reports that several entire villages have been wiped out."
From HindustanTimes.com:
The quake killed at least 10 people in Jammu and Kashmir and 40 in Pakistan, initial reports said. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh quickly moved out of a building in Chandigarh where he was meeting Congress chief ministers. The quake is described as "major" and occurred at 09:20:38 India Time at a depth of 10 kilometers. According to Mohammad Hanif of the Pakistan Meteorological Department, "We can say that it was one of the strongest earthquakes (ever) felt in Islamabad."Another report said that Jammu and Kashmir bore the brunt where over 30 people, including 15 army personnel, were killed, hundreds injured and more than 400 houses flattened.

University spokeswoman Catherine Bishop said OU officials have reviewed their ticket records and determined that Hinrichs did not buy a football ticket from any university outlet. What is interesting about this is that OU is denying allegations that have not been made. I have been following this case rather closely and have seen no one claim that Hinrich bought a ticket to the game that day.She said university officials have heard nothing to indicate Hinrichs attempted to buy a ticket from one of the fans selling tickets outside the stadium.
There have been allegations by NEIN that there was a ticket to Algeria in Hinrichs' apartment, but not a OU-Kansas State game ticket.
There have been allegations that a student (and by conjecture this student has become Hinrich) attempted to enter the stadium and was turned away when he refused to have his bags searched, but not that he tried to buy a scalped ticket.
What is especially odd about this is that the refutation actually would seem to corroborate what many are saying: that Hinrichs was part of a larger terrorist plot to kill people at the game.
If Hinrichs attempted to enter the game and didn't buy the ticket himself, then one is led to the inevetable conclusion that someone else bought the ticket for him. If someone else provided Hinrichs the ticket and knew his intentions, then you have a wider plot. The Oklahoma bombing is a much bigger deal if not the act of a lone suicidal nut.
Further, OU continues to lead the public to believe that Hinrichs death had nothing to do with Islamic terrorism.
Here is a PDF copy of an e-mail sent by University of Oklahoma President, David Boren to all students yesterday. In it, he alludes to internet outlets, such as The Jawa Report, that have 'jumped to conclusions' about a wider Islamic terror plot, and lectures us about how this is 'un-American'.
Of course, it's not 'jumping to conclusions' to reflexively say that no such plot exists when in fact the investigation is ongoing. Further, to deny that radical Islam is somehow connected to terrorism is perfectly American, according to Boren.
Boren also tells students that if he learns of any information from the FBI concerning a wider conspiracy, he will 'immediately' let them know.
It's not clear how Boren would know what the FBI is doing in an ongoing terror investigation, and in which search warrants and indictments are under court seal, so that he could rush and warn his students that an Islamic terror cell is operating on his campus.
Whether or not Hinrichs was part of an Islamic terror cell operating in Oklahoma is still in the air. It's very possible that he was not, that some of the evidence pointing to such a plot is merely coincidence, or that some of the evidence we have reported previously was not true. But, based on what is in the public record now, it would be hard to avoid coming to the conclusion that Hinrichs death was probably a failed terrorist attack.
To deny that would be jumping to conclusion.
AIM has a good article up on the Oklahoma bombing investigation here (hat tip Cinnamon)

Who awards the Nobel Peace Price, and all other Nobel Prizes? From the Nobel Prize website:
The Norwegian Nobel Committee, whose five members are appointed by the Norwegian Parliament (Stortinget), is entrusted both with the preparatory work related to prize adjudication and with the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize. So, who are these five people who think so highly of the U.N. and for whom the world is misled into thinking are simple neutral observers? All of them are politicians. Every. Single. One.
Chariman Dr. Ole Danbolt MJØS. Held various positions in The Christian People's Party (Kristelig Folkeparti). This party is center-right in Norwegian politics. But center-right in Norwegian politics would be considerably to the left in the U.S., especially on social-welfare issues. On family-values issues they are more to the right.
Dr. Berge Ragnar FURRE is the former parliamentary leader of the Socialist Left Party. The Socialist Left Party is left by European standards--it was formerly a Communist party. Today though, like most formerly communist parties, the Socialist Left Party is part of the Red-Green coalitions so common in Europe.
Sissel Marie RØNBECK is former director of the Social Democratic Youth (Labour's youth group) and a former cabinet minister in the Labour led government. The Labour Party has long been a main political party in Norway and was founded as a Marxist party, but are now merely socialists and advocates of an extensive welfare state. They now govern Norway as part of a center-left-green alliance.
Inger-Marie YTTERHORN is a former parliament member and currently advises the Progress Party. The Progress Party in Norway is both anti-immigration party and would be considered more libertarian than the Conservative Party on economic issues.
Kaci Kullmann FIVE is a member of the Conservative Party and former member of parliament. The name kind of says it all. But a Norwegian Conservative is a far-cry from an American conservative--for instance they support gay adoption and EU integration.
So, five people get together and decide who should get the prize. All five are former politicians. So, why should any one care what they think? I don't.

An attorney for the Justice Department made an unusual statement today about the possibility of forthcoming arrests in the Oklahoma suicide-bombing case. Last Saturday, Joel Henry Hinrichs III blew himself up outside of a University of Oklahoma football game. The FBI quickly stated that there was no evidence of a wider conspiracy.
However, WND reports this today (via Reaganites Unite):
The warrant used to execute a search of Oklahoma University bomber Joel "Henry" Hinrichs III's apartment, where an undetermined amount of explosives were found, has been sealed by a federal court at the request of the Justice Department.A sealed warrant on top of the fact that the investigation is being led by the FBI's joint terrorism task-force may be an indication that the FBI is considering the possibility of a wider conspiracy after all.
Neighbors of Hinrichs allege that he was a frequent visitor to a nearby mosque, but the leader of the University of Oklahoma Muslim Student Association denies this. Hinrichs' roommate was a Pakistani national and sources claim jihad materials were found in Hinrichs' room.
Hinrichs was also under investigation by local police authorities because he had recently attempted to buy ammonium nitrate, a key ingredient in large bombs of the type used in the 1995 Oklahoma City Murrah bombing and the first World Trade Center bombing. Hinrichs killed himself before the investigation could be completed.
Even more interesting is this statement from Bob Troester, first assistance U.S. attorney in Oklahoma City, as reported by WND:
"You can draw whatever assumption you like," he said. "We don't comment on any sealed indictments." (emphasis mine)An indictment is far different than a search warrant. An indictment would mean that arrests are forthcoming and that the FBI has discovered a criminal conspiracy since dead people can't be indicted.
Of course, it is entirely possible that Troester simply misworded his answer and that he meant to say warrant. But this also could be a strong indication that Hinrichs was in fact part of a larger Islamic terror cell and that his death was due to the premature explosion of his bomb.
While certainly not conclusive, there is some evidence that indicates that Hinrichs was part of a larger Islamic terrorist plot to kill American citizens at the University of Oklahoma. Please see this post for the details.
Bit hat tip to Reaganites Unite for the e-mail.

UPDATE 3:00 PM: Lawhawk says it well:
Indictments suggest that there are other individuals out there, and that this wasn't a lone individual who may or may not have had emotional problems. We're talking about the real distinct possibility of a terror cell operating in Norman, Oklahoma.Mark Tapscott:
If...Hinrichs acted alone in committing suicide as a result of "problems" in his life, why seal the search warrant and thus prevent the public and reporters from seeing the most critical document of the investigation into the Oct. 1 bombing just outside OU's football stadium and its 84,000 fans watching the OU-Kansas State game?Indeed.

Of course that brings up the question of where do we draw the line? This isn't a new question by any means. In the Fifties, parents wanted Rock & Roll banned for its "evil influence" on kids (and nowadays I'm beginning to think they may have been right!). And for as long as most of us can remember, the courts have been struggling to define pornography. And I think most of the answers end up being "if it pleases me, then it's not pornography." But in our culturally diverse society, that can leave a lot open to interpretation. The sight of a woman's leg could be offensive to a Muslim, while some perverted individuals might not be offended by women having sex with animals. Certainly the reaction to Janet Jackson's breast, even amongst Conservatives, ran the entire spectrum. So, defining what is offensive and what is not in a court is going to be next to impossible. more...

Liberals are going to dispise any nominee President Bush puts up, period. Liberals' hatred every the President has long spilled over into any thing he thinks of, any thing he touches, or even any one that mildly supports him. There's no getting around that. It would seem now that liberals on Capitol Hill are trying to bait Conservatives into not liking Harriet Miers by giving her at least the slightest of warm receptions.
Some Conservatives on the other hand don't like Harriet Miers for a myriad of reasons (not this Conservative though; I don't know if I like her or not). Some say she doesn't have a solid background or paper trail that can be looked at to see her views. Some think Harriet Miers might turn out to be another David Sooter. I find that very hard to believe since the President has known her for what... twelve years. Isn't that one of the excuses the liberals are going to use to not vote to confirm Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court? more...

A posting at an Islamic forum on Oct. 3 relayed a command order to "the al Qaeda Organization in America" to strike nuclear power plants in the United States. Centcom, which translated the original message, is skeptical of the authenticity of it, calling it a "fantasy threat" that would "go unfulfilled". However, a veiled threat was included in Centcom's statement alluding to the ultimate destruction of al Qaeda should they successfully carry out a nuclear attack on U.S. soil.
The message by 'Ayef', who claims to be working under the direction of an al Qaeda leader named 'Abu-Jandal', was directed to 'Abu-Azzam al-Amriki' (Abu Azzam the American)--named as the leader of al Qaeda in America--and other al Qaeda members in the U.S., Europe, and the Middle East. The specifics of the attack, the message implied, would be further designated by Abu-Azzam al-Amriki.
'Azzam al-Armiki' is the nickname of Adam Gadahn, the Orange County California native that appeared in an al Qaeda propaganda film last year. Gadahn, aka 'Abu Suhayb Al-Amriki, Abu Suhayb, Yihya Majadin Adams, Adam Pearlman, Yayah', is wanted by the FBI 'in connection with possible terrorist threats against the United States'.
Ayef claims to be an aide to al Qaeda leader in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. The statement further claimed the al Qaeda has not been in communication with 'Ja'far al-Tayyar' who had been previously assigned the task of blowing up a nuclear reactor in the U.S. for several years. Ja'far al-Tayyar has been presumed killed or captured by the U.S., the message says.
'Ja'far al-Tayyar' is the nickname of Adnan El-Shukrijumah, a naturalized U.S. citizen who set off alarms last year when the FBI announced he was the leader of a suspected plot to detonate a dirty bomb in the U.S.
World Net Daily today ran a story about El-Shukrijumah in which they allege he is the mastermind of a plot to detonate full blown nuclear bombs in the U.S.
Centcom also published the e-mail of the al Qaeda terrorist, 'Ayef', who posted the message.
Here is your chance to e-mail a terrorist with the reminder that if you receive an e-mail back from them, please promptly FORWARD it to me: cade7722@yahoo.com and boda_8899@hotmail.com

According to sources in intelligence, emergency services and police headquarters, when three Iraqi insurgents were arrested several days ago during a raid by a joint FBI-CIA team, one of those caught disclosed the threat. .
This is a breaking story. While there is a lot of doubt precautions are being taken.
Department of Homeland Security sources told ABC News they are very doubtful the threat information is credible, though NYPD sources said the information continues to come in and is disturbing.

CNN:The highly classified operation involving the U.S. intelligence community and the U.S. military was carried out against suspected al Qaeda operatives south of Baghdad, CNN has learned from a well-placed U.S. military official. "Significant intelligence was also gathered in this raid, along with al Qaeda operatives who were rounded up," CNN's Jamie McIntyre reported... ...But the official said the raid was the result of the same intelligence about the threat to New York's subway system.

(Norman, OK) Norman, Oklahoma, police confirmed in a press conference today that JOEL HENRY HINRICHS III was being investigated because he had acted suspiciously while attempting to buy ammonium nitrate fertilizer at an area store. Channel 5 Oklahoma:At a 2 p.m. news conference, Norman Police Department spokesman J.D. Younger said an off-duty, plainclothes officer overheard a conversation Joel Henry Hinrichs III had with the proprietor of a Norman feed store last Thursday at 4 p.m. The conversation centered on a purchase of ammonium nitrate fertilizer. Why is this suspicious? Because ammonium nitrate plus + diesel fuel = Oklahoma City Murrah Federal Building bomb!"I think it's important to note that it's not a criminal activity to purchase ammonium nitrate fertilizer," Younger said.
However, he noted that the context of Hinrichs' conversation with a manager of Ellison Feed & Seed was suspicious. Younger indicated that the off-duty officer reported that Hinrichs asked about different types of fertilizer and the concentration of ammonium nitrate in each.
What came of the investigation? more...

Transcript via The Whitehouse.
We know the vision of the radicals because they've openly stated it -- in videos, and audiotapes, and letters, and declarations, and websites. First, these extremists want to end American and Western influence in the broader Middle East, because we stand for democracy and peace, and stand in the way of their ambitions. Al Qaeda's leader, Osama bin Laden, has called on Muslims to dedicate, quote, their "resources, sons and money to driving the infidels out of their lands." Their tactic to meet this goal has been consistent for a quarter-century: They hit us, and expect us to run. They want us to repeat the sad history of Beirut in 1983, and Mogadishu in 1993 -- only this time on a larger scale, with greater consequencesmore...

Please scroll through main page for more recent entries.CRITICAL UPDATE 10/07: See Indictment forthcoming in Oklahoma bombing case or scroll to end of post for update.
As more details become public about suicide bomber Joel Henry Hinrichs III, who blew himself up outside of a University of Oklahoma football game last Saturday, more and more evidence suggests that he may actually have been part of a larger plot.
Earlier reports indicated that Hinrichs had Islamic jihad material in his apartment that referenced bomb-making manuals. We downplayed that fact as not really evidence of a wider plot. After all, if you want to blow yourself up why not consult with the experts--Islamic terrorists?
But other facts have come to light which raise suspicions.
For an excellent map outlining the scene of the crime and Hinrichs' proximity to these places, please see this post at Zombietime. Other good roundups of the facts can be found at Gateway Pundit, The Politburo Diktat Michelle Malkin, and many many others.
1) Hinrichs seems to have converted to Islam and attended a nearby Islamic center. (see map at Zombietime) However, the president of the University of Oklahoma Muslim Studeant Association denies that Hinrichs was a Muslim. Other witnesses, though, claim Hinrichs was a frequent visitor to the mosque.
2) It appears that the Islamic center is affiliated with the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), a group with ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and which has been investigated for funding terrorism by Congress.
3) The ISNA linked mosque may have been the same one attended by Zacharias MOUSSAOUI. Much more on the Zacharias MOUSSAOUI link at Cao's blog.
4) Hinrichs' roomate, Fazal M. Cheema, was a Pakistani national and neighbors claim the apartment was a center of activity for Middle Easterners. He is described as a 'really nice guy' by his friends. Unfortunately, all terrorists are described this way by their friends. NEIN now reports that Cheema and his associates may have been on the FBI's terror watch list.
5) Hinrichs attempted to buy a large amount of ammonium nitrate, a key ingredient in large explosives such as the first World Trade Center bombings or the Oklahoma City Murrah Federal Building bombing.
6) Hinrichs was later known to the FBI because of his attempted purchase.
7) Evidence at the scene of the bombing suggests that shrapenel was part of the bomb. This is a strong indication that Hinrichs planned to kill more than himself.
Witnesses now report Hinrich may have attempted to enter the OU football game, but that he fled when security attempted to check his backpack
9) Northeast Intelligence Network, who's earlier reports we had dismissed because of that website's long track record of alarmism but who are increasingly looking like they got this one right, claims a source is telling them:
It appears that HINRICHS was part of a larger plan that included members of an Islamic terrorist cell based in and around the Norman and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma area. As a Caucasian, it was much easier for him to obtain the materials needed to create a large bomb, act in concert with members of the local terrorist cell, and strike when relative calm was the word of the day.All of this evidence suggests that there may have been a wider plot by Islamic terrorists to use Joel Henry Hinrichs III as a suicide bomber in exactly the same way as terrorists use suicide bombers around the world: to kill civilians. Hinrichs, like so many other suicide bombers, failed in his attempt and killed only himself.
A word of caution is necessary here. It is definitely possible that Hinrichs did act alone and was just a sad nut with a death wish. Some of the facts presented above could turn out to be untrue, and even if true could be interpreted in a number of ways. We'll just have to wait and see. But, as of this writing I am inclined to believe that Hinrichs was part of a larger plot.
UPDATE: Where is MSM on this? Point Five has the answer.
UPDATE II: Thank you John at Powerline for the link.
UPDATE III: Michelle Malkin has a newer roundup here. And Classical Values is following the story closely with what I think is the appropriate amount of skepticism.
UPDATE 12:33 P.M: Due to a comment and trackback spam problem unrelated to this specific post, these two features may be temporarily disabled throughout the day. Apologies in advance.
UPDATE 3:30: Police confirm Hinrichs under investigation. Scroll down for update. more...

From ABCNews.com:
Officials tell ABC News the alleged spy worked undetected at the White House for almost three years. Leandro Aragoncillo, 46, was a U.S. Marine most recently assigned to the staff of Vice President Dick Cheney.Aragoncillo is believed to have stolen classified documents from the Vice-President's office and sent them to opposition political groups in the Philippines. The information was sent primarily in emails."I don't know of a case where the vetting broke down before and resulted in a spy being in the White House," said Richard Clarke, a former White House advisor who is now an ABC News consultant.
Federal investigators say Aragoncillo, a naturalized citizen from the Philippines, used his top secret clearance to steal classified intelligence documents from White House computers.
In 2000, Aragoncillo worked on the staff of then-Vice President Al Gore. When interviewed by Philippine television, he remarked how valued Philippine employees were at the White House.
I'm sure we'll hear more on this story. Jay at Stop The ACLU has more.

The Army of Ansar al-Sunnah, a well-known terrorist organization in Iraq with ties to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's al Qaeda forces, has released a video in which two hostages are beheaded. The Jawa Report has obtained a copy of the video. Gruesome images from the video are posted below (WARNING: GRAPHIC IMAGES BELOW).
The two innocent civilians are identified as Shaker Mahmoud Jassim and Riyadh Najim Abdullah. The timestamp on the video indicates it was made on September 12th of this year, but the video was not uploaded to the internet until today.
As in all such videos, the terrorists first force the victims to 'confess' to various crimes before they are murdered. Pronouncement of guilt is made on the victims under Islamic law. Thus, the murder and torture done by the terrorists is legitimized in the eyes of radicals as the legal execution of criminals for crimes against Islam. The beheading is done with a knife, is slow, and very painful.
Jassim is forced in the video to 'confess' that he works for the U.S. Army as an informant. As in all jihadi videos, American forces are portrayed as tools of a wider Jewish conspiracy.
The AP reports that Jassim urges in his 'confession':
I call on everyone who works with the Jews and the Americans to repent to God and leave this job.
In all previous hostage murder videos, similar statements are made. The second victim, Abdullah, said he helped the Americans with information about a group of Saudi insurgents and was paid a large amount of money:"We have become slaves to money," he said before he was taken outside and decapitated.SITE reports that the video also warns:
That those who do not “come back to your religion and repent” will also be slaughtered. As Abdullah's head is placed on his back, the camera panned to a sign that read in Arabic: "Go to hell, this is a revenge for our brothers".
The Army of Ansar al-Sunna is an offshoot of The Army of Ansar al-Islam, a Salafist terror organization with roots in Kurdish Iraq. After the fall of the Hussein Regime, the former leader of Ansar al-Islam, Musab al-Zarqawi, took foreign elements to found Tawhid and Jihad--later pledging loyalty to Osama bin Laden and changing the name, once again, to al Qaeda in the Land of Two Rivers (Mesopotamia, or Iraq). Ansar al-Sunnah and al Qaeda are believed to operate seperately now, but occasionally announce collaboration with one another.
This is the first beheading video in many months. These types of videos are propaganda meant for domestic purposes. The reason the terrorists in Iraq stopped producing beheading murder videos, and instead turning to videos of IED and other attacks on U.S. forces, is because they believed that they were doing more harm than good. Such videos tend to turn off the great mass of the Iraqi people, and especially Sunni Muslims on whom the terrorists depend for support and anonymity.
This video can only mean one thing: the terrorists have run into a wall in Iraq, they feel they must resort to threatening the population once again. The terrorists are slowly but surely losing.
Graphic images from the video below:
WARNING: PROCEED AT OWN RISK.
Why show these images? This is the true face of the so-called insurgents in Iraq. They are nothing more than terrorists scum who have a vision for Iraq similar to that of the Taliban in Afghanistan. They are waging jihad not only against Americans, but against Iraqis. Most media outlets will not show you what the terrorists are actually doing in Iraq. We will. more...

Here's a former hostage I'd like to meet. Micah Geren is right up there with former hostage Ulf Hjertstrom, who hired bounty hunters to go after the terrorist scumbags who held him before he escaped.Armed with a shiv he made by tying together three sharp palm fronds, Micah Garen, the Manhattan documentary filmmaker kidnapped in southern Iraq last year, vowed to fight his way to freedom if his captors tried to behead him, he said yesterday....You can buy Garen's book, American Hostage, here. The most nerve-racking moment of Garen's captivity was when he found out he was being led away to make a video.
"Were they planning to kill me on video?" he asked himself, all too aware of the gruesome deaths of fellow Americans Nick Berg and Daniel Pearl at the hands of their kidnappers.
"As my blindfold came off, the world came into focus," he writes in the book. "I looked around at the men's hands and at their waistbands, to see if anyone had a large knife, a sign to me that I was about to be beheaded.
"I didn't see one, but they would probably hide it. I moved my left hand down next to my pocket with the shiv, studying the room for opportunity."
When a man with bare feet knelt down behind Garen, he formed a plan in his mind.
"If something happened, if someone pulled out a knife, I would stab his foot with my shiv, and in the commotion go after a gun," Garen wrote.

Above photo taken by AP stringer Bilal Hussein embedded with terrorist forces in Iraq. Thanks for the tip from Sir Humphrey who has much, much more.
I've written extensively about Bilal Hussein and the traitors at the Associated Press who employ him. Since I know a number of soldiers from Centcom's Iraq offices read this blog, here's a hint on how to catch some more terrorists: put a bug on Bilal Hussein.
And if he refuses put him in jail and apply some extreme pressure for him to give up his sources in the terrorist organizations he is embedded with.
What is the line between spreading enemy propaganda, having contacts with the enemy, and actually being one of the enemy? In war, no such line exists. This is why, as I have argued extensively in the past, Nazi propagandists such as Joseph Goebbels were as guilty of war crimes as any of the other leaders of the Third Reich.
Propaganda is a weapon in war. Enemies with weapons can be shot. Journalists who do propaganda for the enemy are therefore legitimate targets unless they lay down their weapons.
