Saudis Kill 10 al Qaeda Suspects

Reuters:

Saudi security forces killed 10 suspected al Qaeda militants during raids and shootouts in the past two days, including a gunman who is on the kingdom's most wanted list, the Interior Ministry said Thursday. A ministry statement read out on state television said three militants were killed on Tuesday while police shot dead seven on Wednesday after two suicide car bombs exploded in Riyadh. [continue]
Good news in an otherwise dreary holiday season. The events of the past week have only made my vacation more depressing. What would really make me happy would be the Saudis ending their support of radical expansionist Islam around the world.

And as long as I'm spending a few minutes at the keyboard let me add this question just to mix things up a bit. Where is Osama bin Laden?

I've been saying off and on that Africa is the best bet. Bin Laden is a mystic who may be holed up in the place where his 'prophetic powers' first were revealed to the faithful: Somolia. Pure speculation, but there it is.

Another thought, though, has occured to me recently: Iraq. As much as bin Laden likes to think that Allah revealed the weakness of America in Somalia, his experiences in Afghanistan fighting the Soviets shaped his view of warfare. In his recent messages to the faithful he has used the protracted war in Afghanistan as the military model for defeating the US in Iraq. So, maybe bin Laden has decided to return to the center of action.

Just a thought.

PS: As i posted this I noticed the Interested Participant's news that a top al Qaeda figure in Iraq was captured. Maybe this New Year will be better than last?

1 I've often thought that O.B.L. might be either in Iran or Syria. There he could operate pretty much with impunity. At least until we decide to cut off the flow of insurgency at the headwaters.

3 Well, during the A'stan war with the soviets he was in Pakistan so now I guess this means he is in Iran or Syria?

4 Well, he could be in Iran or Syria but I doubt it. I'm sure he's in the mountainous range of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq. Since Zarqawi seems to be the most dangerous of all terrorists, all of a sudden we are hearing from Usama Bin Laden again - my feeling is that he is jealous since he is no longer the center of attention. You can tell that he hasn't had much sun, neither has his friend/doctor/planner/terrorist Zawahiri. The more Zarqawi does, the more Usama is going to come out and when he comes out for sun, for sending messages, for his jealousy over Zarqawi, he will show himself and we will have a much better chance of either capturing him and killing him. And when Saddam is tried and executed, that is also going to make a huge difference. As long as that mental case is alive, the Iraqi's will always be afraid. I also hope the Sunni's change their minds when it comes to the elections because that only plays into both UBL and Zarqawi's plans. The sooner Saddam is dead, the better so he can wreck no fear and maybe then the Iraqi people can step up to the plate and stop what is going on in their country by people who don't even live there. 5 Nay Rusty Nay. Iran is his hangout. A Somali, Afghan or Pakistani would take the $25,000,000 and run. Probably to America. I think only Iran could shelter him this long. Someone with religious ferver, absolule power and lots of money would be the only ones he could trust. Iran also borders where he would like to be. Close to the action in Iraq. No soldiers hunting him and government protection (through the Clerics). I am sure he is in Iran. Hidden and supported by the Clerics.
