News.co.au:

TWO French journalists held hostage by militants in Iraq today said a French ban on Islamic headscarves in schools would cost them their lives.

The pair were shown in a video broadcast by Al-Jazeera television urging the French Government to revoke the ban.

"I call on President (Jacques) Chirac and the French Government to show good will toward the Arab and Islamic worlds by revoking the ban on wearing the hijab immediately," said Mr Chesnot, speaking in English.

"I also urge all French citizens to demonstrate against this law and demand its annulment because it is unfair and wrong.

What do you do when the cheese-eating surrender monkeys actually have a good point?

1 One supposes, at the rate they behead their captives, the Froggies better hop to a decision before heads roll. Then again, are the French so accustomed to innocents losing their heads that they will pay little heed to this dilemma?

2 I really feel as bad for these French journalist (hostile as they may be to us) as any other of the abducted and murdered innocents. BUT... I can't but help take satisfaction that France is getting an object lesson in the rewards of "enlightened" thinking.

3 What do you do when the cheese-eating surrender monkeys actually have a good point? What you do is stop eating stuff that you find behind Jeff Goldstein's couch.

4 Terrorist: I call on President (Jacques) Chirac and the French Government to show good will toward the Arab and Islamic worlds by revoking the ban on wearing the hijab immediately... Frenchmen: Terrorist: Frenchman: Terrorist: Well? Frenchman: I'm trying to figure out how a threat to lop off the heads of my countrymen because we have an unacceptable hanky policy deserves an expression of good will. Whose asshole did you pop out of, at birth? Is there any cake in it for us? We Frenchmen really love cake.

5 The hostages are right about the headscarf ban for all the wrong reasons - because they're going to get killed over it. Pitiful. It really is pitiful. (BTW, Rusty - you've got the wrong URL for me in your blogroll; it should be rightonred.net, not right-on-red.net. Thanks, dude.)

6 What I want to know is - if they were appealing to the French government to lift the ban - why were they speaking in English?
