Favorite 1970s TV Shows

Professor Chaos asks what were the best TV shows of the 1970s? His list is rather exhaustive and I like the fact that it is Sid and Marty Kroft heavy. But what about Sigmund the Sea Monster, bitch!?!? My favorite, of course, was SWAT. Between the ages of 9-11 I played SWAT with my friends on a weekly basis (more if I had to take a break from playing Raiders of the Lost Ark because I was dumb enough to try swinging on the cheap bullwhip I had bought in the most recent trip to TJ). So what are the best TV shows of the 1970s?? Leave your comments with Dr. Leopold Stotch.

5 Sanford and Son was a great show for awhile.

6 Don't forget the MUPPET SHOW!!! Sorry that was a second post

7 Ooops, how could I forget Sanford???? I usually went for those sit-com's back then: Maude, Good Times, Jeffersons, funny how most of them were spin off's from the Best???? Archie, of course!!!!!! They'll never be any show like it. Come to think of it, we have MORE censorship today! It would have probably survived on HBO or one of those other premium channels, but I doubt network TV would show it today, what with all the racial slurs.

8 Stotch got it right with the "White Shadow." Best.TV Show.Ever. Though, I never took time off from my cheap-o fedora and whip (yellow nylon chord) to pretend to coach a basketball team in the ghetto. Simply the Best: Bob Newhart (chicago .. not vermont) Carol Burnett Mary Tyler Moore CHiPs Simply the Best (if you were still making forts out of your bunkbed): Space 1999 The Schmoo Air Wolf Muppet Show 6 Million Dollar Man The Incredible Hulk / Spiderman (live action) Anyone recall the name of the show with the truck driver and the chimp? Had the Eagles tune as the theme? Barry and the Bear .. or something like that?

9 What? No WKRP in Cincinnati? Infidels.

Posted by: Brian B at November 23, 2004 03:36 PM (CouWh)

10 BJ and the Bear.

Posted by: MOG at November 23, 2004 03:59 PM (+1SGl)

11 Of course MOG would know 'BJ'. Ah, WKRP--you know what I keep wondering? I'm wondering whatever become of WKRP!

12 In the early 90's, they fired up the "New" WKRP in Cincinnati. It was tragic. Anything with Tawny Kitaen AND Michael Des Barres is pretty well destined for the toilet (French Stewart didn't add much, either). It ran for two seasons and I would imagine killed off anyone's desire for more. http://radio.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http%3A%2F%2Fepguides.com%2FNewWKRPinCincinnati%2F

13 Screw the "New" WKRP. But the original aired some of the funniest moments on TV in that decade. The phone cops? The Thanksgiving episode? C'mon people....

14 Electra Woman and Dyna Girl! Woohoo! I was always an Emergency! fan. Oh yeah. Wonder Woman. Lynda Carter. I was such a fanboy. I was soooo in love.

18 Hello, With the new show "medium" on NBC; I am reminded of a show in the 70's? called "The Sixth Sense". I don't recall which network carried it or the exact year it aired. It featured a blind man as a detective. Do you recall this show? Do you remember what was written on the building outside his office? This has been needling at me for a while. If you could help it would be greatly appreciated!!! Also, do you think this show will appear on DVD as so many older shows are now appearing?

19 the show in the 70's was called "Longstreet." it starred james franciscus. it only aired from 71-72. it took me a while to remember this!! the new show coming out reminded me of this show too.

21 "The Sixth Sense" was a different series, with Gary Collins starring. Rod Serling was involved.

23 Does anyone remember the name of a tv show from the seventies where a teenage boy ( kinda looked like Johnny Depp ) would turn into a wolf when trouble struck? I think it probably only ran one season. It's driving me nuts!! Thanks maggie
