Brit Muslims Declare Victory in Cartoon War

From the Telegraph (UK):

For the past two weeks, Patrick Sookhdeo has been canvassing the opinions of Muslim clerics in Britain on the row over the cartoons featuring images of Mohammed that were first published in Denmark and then reprinted in several other European countries.

"They think they have won the debate," he says with a sigh. "They believe that the British Government has capitulated to them, because it feared the consequences if it did not.

"The cartoons, you see, have not been published in this country, and the Government has been very critical of those countries in which they were published. To many of the Islamic clerics, that's a clear victory.

"It's confirmation of what they believe to be a familiar pattern: if spokesmen for British Muslims threaten what they call 'adverse consequences' - violence to the rest of us - then the British Government will cave in. I think it is a very dangerous precedent."

Guess what? They have won, for now. Here, too, unless you can think of a major news outlet in this country that has published a Mohammed cartoon.

The Press is opposed to upsetting Muslim sensibilities, unless, of course, they have some juicy video of British soldiers grabbing young Iraqi rock-throwers or some old photos from Abu Ghraib.

1 Yanno, I could've cared less that the MSM didn't publish the pictures until a kind commenter reminded me that there is still a large number of Americans out there who don't have internet access. So, I changed my mind. They are gutless cowards. Publish the cartoons, mediatards. Hey, I just coined a new word.

2 Here's a breath of fresh air and sanity coming from one of their own on our soil. And from all the places you'd think wouldn't publish this truth, it comes from the LA Times. Personally I get the OC Register but even that rag is going down hill too. The troubles of Islam By Mansoor Ijaz, MANSOOR IJAZ is an American Muslim of Pakistani ancestry. An American Muslim of Pakistani ancestry thinks Islam's worst enemies are increasingly its own adherents. ... The first truth is that most Muslim ideologues are hypocrites. What has Osama bin Laden done for the victims of the 2004 tsunami or the shattered families who lost everything in the Pakistani earthquake last year? He did not build one school, offer one loaf of bread or pay for one vaccination... Read it all at: http://www.damianpenny.com/archived/005796.html I'm thinking about going to Solvang this next weekend, looks like a nice trip and one to support the Danish Businesses up there. Should be a nice drive this time of year too. See you in Solvang. Solvang "the Danish Capital of America" http://www.usacitiesonline.com/cacountysolvang.htm

3 In my opinion, here's what should happen. Will we see it?... "We at CBS have discussed showing these cartoons to you, our viewing public, so that you might make up your own minds as to the offensiveness. It is for reporters to report the news... ALL the news, and not to decide what you may, or may not be shown. While we understand that depictions of Mohammed are forbidden in Islam, we are, for now, a country not ruled by sharia law. For that reason, we ask our Muslim viewers to look away as we now show the infamous cartoons of the Prophet..." THAT would garner support even for the network that contaminated us with Dan Rather and Mary Mapes. SOTG

4 SOTG, Fear is a stronger emotion than any other in the liberal lexicon. And they are scared of the radical Muslims, so there will be no cartoons on CBS or any other network for that matter.

5 I thought it was only 'forbidden' by the clerics for people to draw pictures of Muhammed, I don't believe it is referenced in the Quran, nor Hadiths. Apparently there are hundreds of drawings done by Iranians and other Shia Muslims as a sign of devotion. Of course it is also forbidden in Christianity to pray to images of Mary, Jesus or the saints but that doesn't mean people start killing people or destroying property if they hear/see it.

6 Guess what? They have won, for now. Here, too, unless you can think of a major news outlet in this country that has published a Mohammed cartoon. Denver's Rocky Mountain News has published the cartoons. (I tried to link directly to the page on their site but for some reason your filter rejected the link. So instead, I refer you to Instapundit's report of the cartoons' publication in the RMN.)

8 The western media is folding - western govt's are folding - the liberal MSM here ignoring it all as best as possible (by concentrating on Cheney's hunting accident ha ha ). And all you people who wanted to show your support for the Euros in the beginning - I told you! Recognize weakness and lack of commitment for what it is on the liberal/left side. A gift to us.

9 Islam is probably the most hypocritical religious movement since pre-reformation Catholicism. It is still Medieval in thought and action. Where are the Muslim "Moderates" hiding? Why don't they "Take back" their religion? What Islam needs is a leader that can lead a Lutheran type of reformation of Islam. Just like Marty did in the 16th century. If this happens, I wonder if there are Jesuit-type elements in Islam that can lead the Islamic counter-reformation. Welcome to the 21th century Islam.
