Republicans Glad to Lose on Bill to Start New Draft

Actual headline over at the LA Times. Amazing.

Bloggers with more to say than me: Charles Johsnon: The LA Times has exactly reversed the truth, in best Orwellian fashion.

Commissar: ...even Charlie Rangel the author of the bill, votes against it. Got it? Rangel introduces a bill that is so bad that even he votes against it. He undeniably introduced it to make a political point, but should the House leadership force the thing to a vote, well ... that is a "cheap political ploy."

Digger (crossposted): So why, I ask did Charlie Rangle not vote for his own bill that he introduced into the house? Maybe because he was full of crap?

California Yankee: I'm glad that the Dems' Despicable Draft Deception has been defeated. Young people of draft age and their parents can rest easier.

Ubique Patriam Reminisci: (funniest take) Besides, do you know how many kittens died while Rangel was originally pushing this needless piece of zebu refuse legislation? ONE PER MINUTE! I mean, come on New York! Why isnÂ’t your guy actually tackling the issues? RANGEL LIED, KITTENS DIED!

Chad (here and here): Despite numerous attempts by the Democrats to paint the issue of the military drafy upon Republicans, the only two who voted for the draft were Jack Murtha, D-PA and Pete Stark, D-CA. Of course this bill was introduced by Charles Rangel, D-NY and Fritz Hollings, D-TN

Cranky Neocon: Hopefully, this well backfire on the Dems. Where is Karl Rove when you need him? What's that? He just ducked into a phone booth. We're all saved!

Say Anything: The bias in this article is absolutely amazing.

MuD and PhuD: Will everyone now drop all this draft talk?

1 Wait a minute, I brought this up right after the Presidential debate. Democrats were pushing a rumor that the draft would be reinstated - actually that was happening before the debate. During the debate, Kerry mentioned the things he would do by making up certain groups and I wrote in my notes "Watch out - Kerry will bring back the draft" and at the end of my typed up notes on the debate, Bush same right out and said "It will always be an all volunteer military." So if such a bill was brought up, of course the Republicans would knock it down - because they have no intention of reinstating the draft. I'm not sure if the Bill actually came up in Congress and tend to doubt that any talk of it has even been broached but if Kerry somehow by the people's COLLASSAL MISJUDGEMENT ever gets in office, you can then bet the draft may indeed be instituted. dah..
