A College Bowl Week Poem

Vinnie and Rusty watchin' the tv

Texas versus USC

First come the Huskers

Second comes Big 12

Then comes Rusty crying because Texas kicked USC's ass, and Vinnie is rooting for Texas because Texas is in the Big 12, and a win will make the Big 12 look good.

- the end

Eh, next year, the Huskers will play Texas, and I'll go back to hating them as usual.

Ya'll can have the comments to talk smack about the college bowl games.

Michigan fans bitching about the bad officiating will be deleted. The refs made bad calls on both sides the whole game. Great teams overcome all adversity, even bad refs, so STFU.

Religion of Peace and Honor and Murdering Your Daughters.

This makes me want to vomit. This man should be hung by his balls and the women of the area should be allowed to execute his death sentence with wooden spoons. Might take a while but itÂ’s worth it for a man who murdered his 4 year old daughter in the name of honor.

Yahoo News:Bibi recounted how she was woken by a shriek as Ahmed put his hand to the mouth of his stepdaughter Muqadas and cut her throat with a machete. Bibi looked helplessly on from the corner of the room as he then killed the three girls — Bano, 8, Sumaira, 7, and Humaira, 4 — pausing between the slayings to brandish the bloodstained knife at his wife, warning her not to intervene or raise alarm... ..."I was shivering with fear. I did not know how to save my daughters," Bibi, sobbing, told AP by phone from the village. "I begged my husband to spare my daughters but he said, 'If you make a noise, I will kill you.'"... ..."The whole night the bodies of my daughters lay in front of me," she said.... ...The next morning, Ahmed was arrested...…"I thought the younger girls would do what their eldest sister had done, so they should be eliminated," he said, his hands cuffed, his face unshaven. "We are poor people and we have nothing else to protect but our honor." Ahmed, who did not resist arrest, was unrepentant. "I told the police that I am an honorable father and I slaughtered my dishonored daughter and the three other girls," he said. "I wish that I get a chance to eliminate the boy she ran away with and set his home on fire."

What a retard!! The youngest girl was four years old and the others seven and eight years old. Maybe if the men in this part of the world actually worked instead of sending their wives to the brick factory they might be worth a plug nickel. Typical of most idiots they always look outward for the source of their problems. If Pakistan does not give this man the firing squad then they are a nation of cowards as well. If you want to see what a jerk of this magnitude looks like click below. I'll not show this scumbag's pic on the front page.

Shootout at Iraqi Prison

(Camp Justice, Iraq) A dozen or more dead or wounded are being reported after a prisoner grabbed a rifle from an Iraqi policeman and opened fire. Details are confused.

From ABC News Online:

Iraqi police have shot dead several prisoners in a shoot-out at a Baghdad military base after one prisoner grabbed a weapon from a guard and opened fire, Interior Ministry officials and police sources said.

Up to six guards were killed, one police source said, before security forces began firing into the unarmed prisoners.

There was confusion over casualty figures.

Another police source and an Interior Ministry official initially said more than 20 prisoners were killed but a second official insisted there were 15 casualties in all, some only wounded, and that these included one dead guard and one wounded officer.

The prisoners were on a morning recreation break at al Adala base - also called Camp Justice - in the northern Baghdad neighborhood of Kadhimiya. Three prisoners are believed to have escaped. The al Adala prison houses suspects accused of major crimes, including terrorism.

I'd suggest that recreation breaks for terrorists might not be a good idea.

SPAM Scams

At this point I must be getting 10 spam emails to each 1 that's legitimate. About a year ago I met a fellow who had just been hired by the FBI to begin investigating the link between terrorist organizations and email spam scams. It's apparently one of their major income sources. I wonder when our illustrious Congress is going to get off its fat behind and actually do something about the scourge?

Deutscheland Uber Huh?

Dec 27, 2005 — KUWAIT (Reuters) - A Kuwaiti court on Tuesday sentenced to death six suspected militants linked to al Qaeda attacks in the country.

The six were among 37 Islamists charged with links to militants in neighboring Iraq and Saudi Arabia. Police said some had confessed to planning suicide attacks against U.S. military and Western targets in Kuwait.

Kuwait hates Israel in general and Jews in particular, but hasn't sent them to die in gas chambers.

Germany hates Israel in general and Jews in particular, but has.

Advantage Kuwait.

Kuwait is grateful to the U.S. for being liberated from a tyrant.

Germany isn't.

Advantage Kuwait.

Kuwait treats Palestinians as second-class citizens in Kuwait.

Germany treats Palestinians as second-class citizens by supporting them, in "Palestine."

Advantage even.

Kuwait executes terrorists who kill U.S. service members.

Germany releases them after 25 years of a "life" sentence.

Advantage Kuwait.

Trust me, having Kuwait as a staunch ally isn't all that attractive in the grand scheme of things. But, at this juncture in history, I'd take Kuwait.

Feel free to make your own list, pro or con.

Big Bam Boom Ban

David Bernstein thinks that Israel will almost certainly use force to prevent or hinder Iran's development of nuclear weapons, based on the public opinion numbers:

Given that the anti-Iranian consensus is so solid even on the Left, I would be very surprised if the Israeli government fails to follow through on its promise to prevent Iran from acquiring atomic weapons--assuming, of course, that Iran isn't stopped by other international forces.

But can Iran be stopped now, or are all efforts futile? This BBC article notes that the US has recently supplied Israel with 500 "bunker busters." These are conventional weapons, and the assumption is that they'd have minimal impact if the nuclear development facilities have been sufficiently hardened. Recently the US Congress, in its boundless wisdom (joined by Senator All-Over-the-Map Kerry) put the kaibosh on the US development of "nuclear bunker busters." At the time a number of bloggers noted that this ban wouldn't necessarily have the intended impact of reducing the liklihood of nuclear weapons use. Does anyone pay attention to Game Theory any more?

Fred Kaplan, in Slate, thinks we're probably at the mercy of whether the mullahs prefer carrots, because our sticks are of little avail:

But if the Iranians stay their course, if they don't want benefits and assurances, if all they really want is nukes, there might be nothing anybody can do.

Well yeah, we're all helpless before historical necessity, but nothing? Really? I'm not a weapons expert, but it seems to me that if you put together enough toothpicks you can do a lot of damage. Provided we know where the nuclear development facilities are located there's not really very much the Iranians could do to prevent Israel (or somebody) from taking them out. So their only real protection is secrecy. This, of course, is not the conventional wisdom... which may be all the cover that's necessary. Again, this is just pure speculation, but I should think that precision rather than firepower is the name of the game. While it's true that a conventional bunker buster would not be able to take out a deeply hardened target, it doesn't seem plausible that a series of five hundred strikes drilling down through the earth's crust with an average deviation from target of only a few inches could fail to eventually blow the smithereens out of anything inside the subterranean trajectory. Is this really a technical problem American and Israeli scientists can't possibly lick? Moreover, the deeper they go to reach the buried facilities the less likely the collateral damage would trigger The American Conservative's "nightmare scenario". In this case (in terms of raw explosive power) less might well be more.

Just speculating, of course. If anyone knows more about this I bow to your superior knowledge. On balance, I'm with David. And the mullahs are in for a lesson.

More Hostage Taking, Islamofascist Rhetoric, In Iraq

moroccan_hostages_murdered.jpgAn unkown group has taken at least six Sudanese embassy employees hostage. The Sudanese government, a long-time state-sponsor of terrorism itself, reports that it is in negotiations for the release of the hostages.

In related news, a leading Sunni Muslim cleric has reportedly 'condemned' the kidnappings of two Moroccan embassy workers, a driver, Abderrahim Boualam, and a diplomatic employee, Abdelkrim el-Mouhafidi, taken hostage in October. Al Qaeda had threatened to murder the hostages and had already reported that an Islamic court had issued the death sentence to them for 'apostasy'. In actuality, the 'theologian' only conditionally condemned the hostage taking. Instead of claiming that hostage taking was intrinsically wrong, he condemned al Qaeda's actions by saying that it was wrong to kidnap Muslims.

Maghreb Agabe Press:

"The two Moroccan citizens have no link with the Iraqi issue. They are innocents," he underlined in a statement broadcast Monday by Arabic Channel "Al Arabiya." [italics added]
Notice how the cleric gives an out to those who would kidnap anyone involved with the Iraqi government or with the Coalition forces? Presumably, those who have a link to Iraqi issues are not 'innocent'. Further, al Qaeda in Iraq had originally condemned the two Moroccans to death based on the fact that the two were found 'guilty' of breaking Islamic law's prohibition on 'apostasy'. Instead of declaring that a civilized religion would never kill adherents for 'apostasy', that freedom of conscience and religious expression were basic human rights, the 'theologian' chose instead to declare the two 'innocent'. Does this mean that if they had really been guilty of 'aspostasy' that Islamic law would have permitted al Qaeda to execute the pair?
"I ask the parties who hold the two Moroccan hostages Abdelkarim Mohafidi and Abderrahim Boualam to release them because they are mere employees and their families are living painful moments," added Koubaysi, an eminent theologist who graduated from the Egyptian university of Al Azhar.

He recalled that Islam “taught us mercy even to the enemy”, stressing that the two Moroccan citizens “are not enemies but belong to the Ummah (Islamic Nation), and are not responsible for what is going on in Iraq”.[italics added]

What can one say about a religion that is still debating the legitimacy of hostage-taking and murder? That can only condemn hostage-taking if conditioned on the fact that the hostages are Muslims or who have no affiliation with the West, and not based on intrinsic human dignity? more...

An Intra-Generational Clash

This article, from the Chicago Sun Times explains why so many of these folks seem like such brats:

Harris, 19, is in her second year at Loyola University. But she has no desire to distance herself from her parents now that she no longer lives at home. Nor does she plan to rely less as a college student on her parents for help or advice.

"Something happens, your first thought is call Mom,'' she says. "Mom will fix it.''

The record number of students now at colleges and universities are bringing with them something not seen as much on campus in generations past: their parents. The current generation of students, experts say, increasingly chooses to maintain strong bonds with their parents. With cell phones and e-mail, they're able to stay in touch to a degree not seen among previous generations. The strings are so tight some experts have come up with a name for these college students -- the "coddled generation.''

I'm sure there are some good things about remaining close to your parents, but the contrast with the folks in this LA Times article by Robert Kaplan (who are from the same generation, ironically) could not be starker:

Regardless of whether you support or oppose the U.S. engagement in Iraq, you should be aware that that country has had a startling effect on a new generation of soldiers often from troubled backgrounds, whose infantry training has provided no framework for building democracy from scratch.

At a Thanksgiving evangelical service, one NCO told the young crowd to cheers: "The Pilgrims during the first winter in the New World suffered a 54% casualty rate from disease and cold. That's a casualty rate that would render any of our units combat ineffective. But did the Pilgrims sail back to England? Did they give up? No. This country isn't a quitter. It doesn't withdraw."

I see trouble brewin' when Group I clashes with Group II. More at The Belmont Club.

Cow Rapist Gets Off

Rural Temptress(Neillsville, Wisconsin) Last March, Harold G. Hart, 64, was arrested and charged with illegal sexual gratification with an animal (typical victim at right) along with disorderly conduct and two counts of obstruction.

Last Thursday, Hart pleaded no contest to the charges. Hart was sentenced to two years probation and ordered to undergo psychological counseling.

Since Hart was convicted of illegal sex with an animal, I must assume that there is some act that's considered to be legal sex with an animal. Frankly, I'm afraid to ask.

On a different subject, congratulations to Howie for receiving his P.H.D. As a Jawa blogger, it's assumed that the distinction was awarded by the Big Ten, which everybody knows is actually the Big Eleven.

Jordanian taken hostage.

Syrian Arrested for Lebanon Bombing.

CNN:Abdel-Qadar Abdel Qader was among three Syrian nationals detained earlier for questioning in the Dec. 12 killing of Tueni, who is also An-Nahar's top editor... ...The formal arrest followed issuance of a warrant by Lebanese military prosecutor Rashid Mizher based on telephone calls Qader made before and after the car bombing that killed Tueni and two of his bodyguards, a judicial official said on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the investigation.

More of Sadam's handy work discovered in Iraq.

FOXNEWS:Human rights organizations estimate that more than 300,000 people, mainly Kurds and Shiite Muslims, were killed and buried in mass graves during Saddam's 23-year rule, which ended when U.S.-led forces toppled his regime in 2003

Don't miss Michael Yon today as he discusses context.

The second montage by MSNBC, linked below, conveys the ultra-violence of nature against man, the cruelty of man against man, and helps explain why we want the world to be more like the impression we are left with after the “propaganda” montage. And yet, as someone who was out there experiencing some of what was depicted in both slide shows, it’s important to add that both are accurate in what they portray, while each is confined in scope. The difference is subtle, perhaps purely rhetorical. But the consequent impact, and how it influences public opinion, is something closer to cataclysmic.

Taliban blah blah blah.

AP via Yahoo News: In an interview late Sunday with The Associated Press, the commander, Mullah Dadullah, ruled out any reconciliation with the U.S.-backed government of President Hamid Karzai and claimed the country's new parliament — its first in more than 30 years, inaugurated last week — was "obedient to America."

So AP why did you not help us capture this POS. I mean you had him on the phone right?

Tajikistan Swastika

Tajikistan Swastika(Dushanbe, Tajikistan) Tajik historians maintain that Tajiks are of Indo-European or Aryan origin and, as a consequence, the authorities in Dushanbe have adopted a stylized version of the swastika as the national symbol. Tajik officials contend that the swastika is a symbol of Aryan culture that has existed for many centuries and has many interpretations. According to Abduhakim Sharipov, administration official,

"We all know that fascism used this symbol for its purposes. This symbol therefore carries negative connotations for many ... ;[but] we should not limit ourselves to only one interpretation."
The authorities want the swastika to gain newer, positive connotations and popularize Aryan contributions to the history of the world civilization. My hope is that international pressure comes to bear on Tajikistan to reconsider its decision on the swastika.

As an aside, Dushanbe is the capital of Tajikistan and the sister city to Boulder, Colorado. So, don't be surprised if a few more swastikas show up in Boulder, arguably already one of the most left-leaning American cities.

Christmas Book Review: Michael Chrichton's State of Fear

I generally don't review books, but since I'm on vacation in California and not really keeping up with the news (and since the weather has finally turned for the worse and I'm stuck indoors) I thought I'd drop a quick note about the book I just finished, Michael Crichton's State of Fear.

For full disclosures sake, Harper Collins offered me the book for free awhile back, but I turned them down. So, even though they sponsored the site for awhile, I forked over the $7.99 at the airport for the book myself. The reason I'm commenting on it at all has nothing to do with their former sponsorship, but has everything to do with this: The book was absolutely awesome!

That's it. Just wanted you to know how awesome it was. Go buy it if you haven't done so. It's the perfect Hannukah gift. Inexpensive and much more fun than another boring freakin' dradle!

I read 80% of it in one sitting on the trip to California. The rest the next day. So, it's easy reading. The kind of reading that is captivating and kept my normally ADHD afflicted brain busy.

Best of all it lays out the case that the hype about global warming is just that: hype. Footnoted, too.

More than than, it talks about the discourse Nazis who have hijacked all rational discussion about the environment. The people who use the language of science to bolster what are essentially their religious beliefs about the ideal state of nature. A state which never has existed and is as much myth as any fundamentalist Christian's vision of the Garden of Eden.

And here's a teaser to get you interested. Hollywood limousine-liberal gets eaten alive by cannibals. Does it get any better than that?

Saudi Court Imposes Eye Gouging Sentence

(Riyadh, Saudi Arabia) A Saudi Arabian court sentenced a 32-year-old Indian migrant worker, Puthen Veetil Abdul Latheef Noushad, to have his eye gouged out as punishment for blinding a Saudi man in a fight. Apparently, Noushad was working at a gas station when he got into a fight with a Saudi customer regarding the bill. The Saudi man lost his eyesight from injuries sustained in the fight.

Noushad claims he acted in self-defense but the Saudi court imposed the sentence anyway. An appeals court will review the case and, if the ruling is upheld, the Supreme Court will address the issue. Human Rights Watch has joined the fray, asking Saudi King Abdullah for clemency.

Under Saudi Arabia's interpretation of Islam, mutilation is an acceptable form of punishment. The loss of body parts is regularly specified by the courts. I think it's barbaric, however, I understand that it's proven to be quite effective in reducing recidivism. (via LGF)

Group Cites Progress in Middle East: WaPo Writer Flies Into Snit

The "non-profit, nonpartisan organization" Freedom House notes improvement in the state of democracy in the Middle East in a December 19 press release:

The people of the Arab Middle East experienced a modest but potentially significant increase in political rights and civil liberties in 2005, Freedom House announced in a major survey of global freedom released today.
The press release goes on to mention Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as Lebanon, as hopeful "potentially significant" signs of progress in the region. Only effects are cited, not causes. Thus, there is no mention of the United States' role in Afghanistan's elevation from "Not Free" to "Partly Free" status. Likewise, those in Lebanon who cited the American intervention in Iraq as the spark that led to Syria's expulsion aren't quoted.

Unfortunately, even this implied faint praise for President Bush's Middle East foreign policy is a threat to Fred Hiatt at the Washington Post:

But even those bright spots had shadows. The gainers in Arab elections were Islamist parties that may or may not be committed to the democratic process. The elected government in Ukraine faced internal and external pressures. Liberia's president will need help from wealthier countries that she may not receive.
In Fred Hiatt's world the sky is always overcast during Republican administrations. What a sad little man.

French Pass Anti-Terrorism Law

Reacting to the real threat of terrorism by Islamic extremists and prompted by the London subway bombings, the French parliament passed legislation which allows the government to spy on its citizens.

From the BBC:

The new law will allow increased video surveillance in public areas including airports and places of worship.

Police will also be given more time to question terrorist suspects and to check internet and telephone records.

It's appropriate to emphasize the scope of the law. French authorities are going to be placing video surveillance equipment in mosques! French authorities are going to monitor Internet and telephone communications! They are also going to detain suspects for longer periods of time to allow for adequate intelligence gathering! Sacre Bleu!

According to Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy, the new law is needed to give "greater powers to law enforcement to avoid a catastrophe." Hmmm ... imagine that. All along, the Democratic Party has been trying to steer the U.S. government into being more like the French. But, now, the Democrats must feel betrayed. In a dedicated effort, the Democratic Party, including the mainstream media wing, have worked to weaken America's anti-terror laws while, almost simultaneously, France has strengthened its own version of the Patriot Act.

I find it difficult to dispute the contention that the Democrats and the media are soundly invested in defeat, not only in Iraq but, also, in the war on terror. To be a staunch Democrat largely means one has to be on the wrong side of most issues. This is clearly illustrated by the pro-terrorist Muslim media continually quoting Democratic Party leaders in their one-sided, and inaccurate, reporting of the news. Even Saddam Hussein uses the Democratic Party's assertions against the Bush administration in defending himself against charges of crimes against humanity.

Nonetheless, the new French anti-terror legislation won't make the Democrats nor the MSM happy. And, it's likely that news of strengthened laws in France won't be prominently reported by the major media outlets, if at all.

American Hostage Jeffrey Ake Still Missing (Muslim Clerics, Western Leftists Still Silent)

American Jeffrey Ake was taken hostage eight months ago. He was in Iraq to help with water purification. You mean you haven't heard of Jeffrey Ake? Apparantly, hostages who are not Leftists merit little media attention, no mass protests, and not a single bit of 'concern' from Muslim clerics. Where is the outrage?

South Bend Tribune (hat tip: George):

With Christmas drawing near, Jeff Ake and his family remain in the thoughts and prayers of many in his hometown LaPorte.

Eight months ago, the 47-year-old Ake, the owner of Equipment Express in Rolling Prairie, was taken hostage in Iraq while working at a water treatment plant near Baghdad....

Still fresh in the minds of many is the image of Ake flanked by gunmen on television screens across the globe.

Gradually, the vast media spotlight cast upon the city has dimmed along with the seemingly never-ending chitchat in the barber shops, taverns and other gathering places.

"After about two months you stopped hearing about it," said Julie Meyers, a hair stylist at Carter's Barber Shop at 711 Jefferson Ave.

Nevertheless, Ake hasn't been forgotten, judging by signs posted around the city offering prayer and encouragement for Ake and his wife, Lilliana, and their four children.

And in his bid to keep public awareness alive, Mayor Leigh Morris continues to call for God's blessing on Ake and his entire family at the start of each city council meeting.

This Christmas, remember to keep the forgotten hostages in Iraq in your prayers.

NYT Still Pimping Risen's Book

The New York Times is busy today doing yeoman work to help promote the January publication of reporter James Risen's sensationalist new book.

The really, really masterful propaganda stroke in the Gray Whore Lady's article is the fact that the article, allegedly examining large-scale government data-mining, never once mentions the Able Danger scandal, or the 9/11 Commission's role in trying to bury it. Of course, that was a Bill Clinton screwup.
