Heh. Wouldn't you like to know.
In other news: carne asada french fries?
Self-explanatory. Take carne asada (a marinated, grilled mexican flank steak that gets served whole, or diced and served on burritos or tacos. Standard toppings include diced onions and tomatoes, Cilantro, cheese, guacamole, and Crema), derve it over a pile of french fries. I prefer mine lite on the toppings, no guac or crema.
Sounds analexplodalicious.
On a bad day it's better than that. On a good day it's a venal sin.

What's the matter, Rusty?? Having a bad day? I know you post and are a guest host on other websites, which ones I have no idea, but what made you say today "Screw You Guys, I'm going Home!" ??? Need a partner? Too much to do?? What blew your cork today?? Just curious.
I know that this is probably not the right place for this and if not, you may remove it - not sure if people actually comment here or on the links you send them to or what BUT I would like to bring up the fact that our NATIONAL GUARDSMEN AND WOMEN and RESERVISTS from all branches of the service, ARE LOSING THEIR LIVELIHOODS, THEIR HOMES, SOME EVEN THEIR FAMILIES because the government is PLUCKING them right out of society, disregarding the purpose they play in their society, to serve their country, to protect American, to fight for us and what do we do and what does the government do to help these soldier's out. I really think an AWARENESS has to be made regarding these individuals and that ALL OF US and our GOVERNMENT owe them more than just a debt of GRATITUDE, they deserve our HELP. And AWARENESS OF THEIR SITUATION IS UTMOST. I'd also like to see all the groups out there helping our fellow people - not just Florida who needs our donations desperately, but all around this country. Why can't we FOCUS on the GOOD things we do FOR A CHANGE?? Then let me know what I can do to make you NOT say "Screw you guys, I'm going home!"
I realize you are getting ready for school - teaching college or higher ups and there's a lot on your mind and this can't take the place of everything when you have so much to do. I don't know who you are, or where you are from, or where you teach. But when you get disgusted, try not only going home, but find a comfort movie or a comedy and sit back and relax. If you're married and have kids, snuggle up and appreciate what you have and in the meantime, consider yourself lucky. I have no one and it's very lonely and someone as chronically ill and disabled as I am living - if that's what you want to call living - on $584 a month for 17 years now, life is very difficult for me. Consider yourself blessed. At least you have a family and a life worth living, so be grateful for that and protect that with all your might, because it makes you what you are. I really do hate listening to people blogging who make no sense whatsoever and I scream at the computer "SPEAK ENGLISH" but we have people to take care of, including ourselves and those who are losing more than we can imagine. "Some gave some; some gave all" and we never forget them. I don't know whom you are sending the screw you guys, too, but it can't be this gimp - I have had my own hell, some worst that another. Consider yourself Lucky, Rusty, and consider yourself lucky.

Ya know, there is nothing wrong in my asking what he is so upset!!! When he posts a line that says "SCREW YOU GUYS, I'M GOING HOME!" I don't know what the second part came from but there is absolutely NO REASON WHATSOEVER for you other guys saying "what the fuck??" in every form. Now that is just plain stupid - when I actually care about Rusty and why he just posted that one line - which does not link to anything, so it seems to me he is obviously upset about something and I'm sticking out my hand of friendship to someone who just might need it. (like I said post 2 is an error taken from the first post and don't know how that happened) SO WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU WHO MADE THOSE DISGUSTING REMARKS OF WTF???

The In Between Meetings Post
Meetings all morning. One good thing is that I grabbed one of the precious back-row chairs. What was the meeting about? No idea. I did get a chance to read chapters one and two of
Campaigns in the 21st Century, by Richard J. Semiatin, though. The book is assigned reading for my Campaigns and Elections class I'm teaching this fall. So far, so good. The author seems pretty fair and picks on Dems and Reps pretty equally.
One interesting bit from chapter 1 was the way the author characterized Karl Rove vs. Dick Morris. Dick Morris is said to be a professional opportunist who works for the money. Karl Rove, on the other hand, is described as a loyal friend of the Bush family who turned down opportunities to make millions in the private sector for a White House appointment. Interesting.

The Seven Deadly Sins of Blogging: 3-D
Like the famed Phoenix of Arizona, this post is reborn out of the ashes of my archives. What started as a silly post to indulge my vanity has made the internet rounds.
Like a DJ at a top-forty station I will suck every last hit out of this post until the public cries in unison, "Enough! Away with your foul reposting!!" Besides, with mucho responsibilities around the Ivory Tower and with the relatives in town, I really haven't had time to sit down and write anything meaningful. Not that I ever write anything meaningful....
If you've already read it, act like you're at a party. You know, they start playing Nelly's It's Gettin Hot in Here and someone invariable says what a cool song it is, but you can't really say anything about how that song was interesting the first bajillion times you heard it.....Act like that.
__________________________________________________________________________
You miss a day blogging. No time for a serious hard-hitting post. Hits are down. What do you do? Engage in the blogosphere's oldest vice: Link dropping!!!
But that's just one of the mortal vices of blogging. What are the others?
Rusty Shackleford presents: The Seven Deadly Sins of Blogging: a brief guide.*
1) The Link Drop Post: Steven Taylor and I prove kindrid souls on this one. Don't think this one works? Do you actually believe Glenn Reynolds was born Satan's right-hand man or had to work on it?
2) Search Terms Post: Google not treating you right? BRD has a full discourse on the merits of porn and conspiracy theories. Sure fire way to up the ol' sitemeter .....and send your soul right to Beelzebub's dominion.
3) The Re-post Post: Had a popular post in the past? Hits down? Ace re-introduces us to one of his greatest hit-jobs. Remember, this sin sometimes counts double.
4) The Blogroll Post: Get bloggers attention fast! The Llama Butchers are ordered to do 5 Hail Mary's and an Our Father for jeapordizing their immortal souls.
5) The Breaking News Post: The blogger ethos requires a link to the first person breaking the story. MH King, Amanda Doerty, Jeff Quinton, James....I say to you repent!!
6) The Caption Contest Post: Win the caption, get a link. See how this works? This sin seems to be reserved for Fridays. Shame on you Kevin!
7) The Recipricol Link Post: Want to up your TTLB Ecosystem rating? Easy. Start an 'Alliance' of 'like-minded bloggers' to recipricate links. (via Commissar) Jessica and Boi From Troi are warned that this mortal sin will not go unpunished!!
In the Name of He Who Rules the Blogosphere I Warn All of You to Repent! Any other Bloggers who engage in these sins have been forwarned. Hell-fire and brimstone await if you do not change your wicked ways!
*Mia Culpa. Yes, I have been guilty of all these vile acts in the past. I have seen the light! I once was lost, but now I'm saved.....

Luckily, two more Lebaneese hostages were released--they were both truck drivers.

I know Rusty but there are some very good things that are also going on that no one ever covers and which many people should donate to thee charities, just like the Red Cross asking people to send money, not food or clothing. Out of this tragedy, some good things have popped up - such as the "Walk of Honor" et al. I do think awareness of our National Guardsmen and reservists who get plucked out of society, out of their homes and from their families, out of their job or small business. Not only WE but our government should be taking care of these men and their families. I know you are all reports but every once in awhile you should do a public service by noting these foundations for these men and their families or at least LINK to them. The Guard and the Reservists are sacrificing MORE then enlisted men and they deserve our credit. Our Government is NOT doing them any assistance and this situation MUST change.

State Dept: Heads in Asses, Iraq Govt: Heads in Sand
Another delegation goes to negotiate with Muqtada al-Sadr?? Are you kidding me? Is this the most insane idea you've ever heard? Two lessons in life you should have learned in kindergarden: 1) Germans love David Hasselhoff. 2) Muqtada al-Sadr uses negotiations to buy time to rearm and reposition himself. Letting him leave is just letting him regroup in another city is not what we want. We want him dead. This is FUBAR.

Carter endorses Chavez win in Venezuela
You know, when Jimmy Carter speaks I am always reassured.
Seattle Post Intelligencer:
Directing his remarks at opposition figures, Carter called on all Venezuelans to accept the results.
"Now it's the responsibility of all Venezuelans to accept the results and work together for the future," said Carter.
Never mind the strong-arm tactics employed by Chavez to silence his opposition....you know, like
shooting people.

Arab? No man, I'm from East L.A.
Just in case you didn't catch the link from my earlier post, there was a report out in the
Telegraph (UK) that caught my attention (hat tip: whoever it was that sent me the link---oops, forgot, sorry!!):
President Bush has launched a drive to halt illegal immigration across America's porous southern border, amid growing fears that terrorists may be using Mexico as a base camp before heading to Arizona, Texas and California.
A string of alarming incidents has convinced Bush administration officials that lax immigration rules, designed to cope with the huge numbers of illegal entrants from Mexico, have become a significant loophole in the war on terror.
Over the past month, border agents from Arizona and Texas have anonymously reported recent encounters with dozens of Arab men, who have made their way across the 2,000-mile Mexican border.
The good news is it appears we have begun to crackdown on the border. The bad news is that for every illegal caught, another one gets in unnoticed. More in extended entry.

This is the main reason I scoff at those who say they're voting for Jorge Bush out of national security concerns. If Bush's priority was security (not reelection) he would have cracked down on this problem two years ago.
Yes, I scoff ...

Here is my problem with that statement: you treat this as a dualistic choice--either your for security or against it. I see it as a continuum. More security or less security. We have tightened the borders up since 9/11. Not nearly as much as you and I would like, but still MORE. While always hoping that government will do the best possible job, I think the most we can EXPECT is better.

Both the federal government and the southern border state have done a tremendous job at improving immigration. The problem come in with 2 large muslim communities which have been established in the remotest of regions not far from the texas and california borders. They have been converting hundreds of poor mexicans, abandoned by their government. The lure? Financial compensation for those who choose to join their communities by way of employment in the community's various industries and from no-interest loans to small businesses.
What I'm hoping for, perhaps naively, is that someone is following the money trail back, to see where it leads to. Any guesses?

Iraqi WMD in Syria
Via
Dr. Chaos, this link to a Washington Times piece that suggests that Iraqi WMD have been moved to Syria. Just to give props where props are due,
Dr. Chaos has been convinced that WMD are in Syria for months. I remain skeptical.
Washington Times:
Two defense sources told The Washington Times that the ISG has interviewed Iraqis who told of Saddam's system of dispatching his trusted Iraqi Intelligence Service (IIS) to the border, where they would send border inspectors away.
The shift was followed by the movement of trucks in and out of Syria suspected of carrying materials banned by U.N. sanctions. Once the shipments were made, the agents would leave and the regular border guards would resume their posts.
This is by no means a slam dunk, but it is further evidence that Saddam Hussein was up to no good. Further, if you think the burden of proof rested on the US to
prove that Iraq had WMD before the invasion, you are a fool.

WaPo on Jessica Cutler: Genius, Martyr
Just wait til
Ace and
Bill hear about this. Via
nTodd who dropped a comment to me comes word that Jessica Cutler is back in the limelight. Before I go on, can I just ask how Washingtonienne is 'news', but the fact that John Kerry was never in Cambodia is 'not news' according WaPo?
WaPo (subscription):
Jessica's blog (short for "Web log") was the online diary she had been posting anonymously to amuse herself and her closest girlfriends. In it, she detailed the peccadilloes of the men she said were her six current sexual partners, including a married Bush administration official who met her in hotel rooms and gave her envelopes of cash; a senator's staff member who helped hire her, then later bedded her; and another man who liked to spank and be spanked.
Wait, the nation's premier politcal news source is talking about spanking???? More in extended entry. But I warn you, this reads like a lurid novel.
Rob, James, David, Eric Scoles, and (shock) Kevin already on the case.
UPDATE: Why is it that when we think Washingtonienne or Jessica Cutler we think of Bill at INDC? The Llamma Butchers are officially Munuvians, and they get the ball rolling right! And when Jeff Goldstein thinks of sex-for-money blogging, he also thinks of Bill.

Missed typo opportunity:
"She posed for Playboy in a pictorial that will run this fall, just in time for the erection."
Makes perfect sense considering both the subject and the horrible writing of this piece.

Now that I have a closer look at her....erection is the last thing I'm thinking.

"Soon, the answer to that question would be writ large, not only across Washington, but around the world."
Oh, I don't know - I'm willing to wager that 99% of the world doesn't have a clue who the hell she is.
Regardless, I'm just glad they told me what a blog was - I mean, given that Jessica's story is being writ large around the world, I must be the last person to get this whole blog thing.

Rusty you are sure as hell right about the lack of erections, my theory is that she was into anal because her lovers could not bear to look at that face!

Probably overkill to point this out, but...
Your excerpt from the Washington Post article mentioned Republicans twice in just a couple of grafs ("...a *married* Bush Administration staffer" and that she worked for "Republican" Mike DeWine of Ohio). But when I see wire-service stories on corrupt, now-outed New Jersey governor McGreevey, the name of his party is never mentioned.
But I'm sure this is just coincidence.

SF: Hmm.... it seems to me that every single story I heard about McGreevey took great pains to repeatedly establish that he was a Democrat.
Cutler worked for a republican, so it's natural (especially in view of the current armed-camp mentality between the parties -- traceable directly to Newt Gingrich's "never surrender" attitude, I might add) that she would -- er --
consort primarily with Republican men. And again, in view of the current climate, it's practically required that you situate everyone you talk about somewhere on the political spectrum as soon as they're named. Otherwise, you're accused of being "policitally correct" or "biased" by the side opposed to the person named. You're damned if you do, and mocked if you don't.
Anyway, any whore in DC will tell you that Republicans are much kinkier than Democrats (which, in most stories that mention that nugget, is taken as a compliment to the republicans).

UN Expresses Outrage At Massacre: Sends help in form of condolences
I wish it were a joke. It sounds like a joke. It's not. Remember, this is the same U.N. that John Kerry wished to wait for approval from before invading Iraq. All italics are mine.
VOA:
The U.N. Security Council has strongly condemned the massacre of ethnic Tutsis at a U.N. refugee camp in Burundi. The Council issued a statement during a rare Sunday evening session.
France called the emergency session to express outrage at the massacre, which took place Friday night at a refugee camp not far from Burundi's border with Congo.
More in extended entry.

Pathetic beyond words. Pretty soon the term "yellow belly" will be replaced by "blue hat."

And country singers will be writing songs about the 'blue hat of the county' and such.

Is the defunct, all words but no action UN which is a joke, do something for a change? or are they just condemnng but not acting on this situation?

You post ought to be a full page, glossy four-color ad in the New York Times. The ad should say something like, "What's so wrong with unilateralism?"
