Toledo - Recruiting Hub for Teen Prostitutes

(Toledo, Ohio) Police and social service workers are stunned.

From ToledoBlade.com:

[A] two-year U.S. Justice Department probe of underage prostitution revealed a nationwide problem of such magnitude that it took many police and social-service agencies by surprise.

"Innocence Lost," the cooperative investigation by federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies so far has saved 200 minors from the sex trade and led to more than 500 arrests.

The federal probe also revealed a "loose confederacy" of Toledo men who, according to investigators, have recruited local girls as young as 12 years old - shuttling them across the country and forcing them into the sex trade.

The perpetrators are alleged to have lured young girls in troubled circumstances into running away with promises of glamour and travel. Once taken, the girls are forced into prostitution at locations throughout the U.S.

It would be nice to know how long the "loose confederacy" has been operating and how many of the girls disappeared, never to be heard from again. And, in my opinion, the dismal circumstances of some foster care programs are at least partially responsible for the teen girls being easily lured away.

Terrorist Detainees Taking it Through the Nose

The dotty old Beeb reports that a United Nations official is concerned that hunger-striking detainees at Guantanamo Bay are being force-fed in a way that, "...definitely amounts to an additional cruel treatment.":

There are credible allegations that Guantanamo hunger strikers are being force-fed in a cruel manner, the UN special rapporteur on torture has said.
Manfred Nowak's comments came after it emerged that the number of detainees refusing food at the prison camp had more than doubled since 25 December.
I'm certainly as mystified as you as to just what a "rapporteur on torture" is. Perhaps it's similar to a "rapporteur on raping children entrusted to UN care" or "rapporteur on skimming profits from UN sanctions". Who knows.

At any rate, it's revealed that rapporteur Manfred has never visited Gitmo.

Mr Nowak has not been to Guantanamo, and turned down an invitation to the camp because the US refused to give him unrestricted access to the detainees.
Well of course he wasn't granted unrestricted access. Too many UN folks have been identified as accomplices of Saddam in the oil-for-food scandals. Why take a chance with a corrupt organization like that?

As for the scum languishing in durance vile; once they've given up all their useful information, let them eat or not, their choice.

President's Attacker Sews Mouth Shut

Vladimir ArutunyanIn a protest claiming his rights have been violated after being arrested for throwing a grenade at President Bush, Vladimir Arutunyan (right) sewed his mouth shut.

From MOSNEWS.com:

Vladimir Arutunyan is accused of throwing a hand grenade at Bush and Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili while they were addressing a public audience on Freedom Square in central Tbilisi on May 10. The grenade did not explode.

Arutuynan was arrested in Tbilisi on July 20 after a shootout with Georgian police that resulted in the death of Col. Zurab Kvlividze, the head of the Georgian Interior Ministry’s counterintelligence department.

The defendant came to the court hearing on Tuesday with his mouth sewed up. He claimed earlier his rights were violated.

So, with his mouth sewed shut, he can't talk. And, presumably, he can't eat. And, it's his choice. Uh ... I don't see a problem.

Naturally, I wonder where he got a needle and thread since I don't think those items would normally be issued to dangerous prisoners. Nevertheless, Arutunyan sewing his mouth shut doesn't phase me in the least. Hell, as long as he stays behind bars for a very long time, he could also sew up his navel and his anus for all I care.

Filthy Spy In The White House

Holy moly! We have the workings of a Tom Clancy novel and it's happening in real time. Expect everybody to report on this story. For the first time in modern history, a spy has been caught working in the White House

From ABCNews.com:

Officials tell ABC News the alleged spy worked undetected at the White House for almost three years. Leandro Aragoncillo, 46, was a U.S. Marine most recently assigned to the staff of Vice President Dick Cheney.

"I don't know of a case where the vetting broke down before and resulted in a spy being in the White House," said Richard Clarke, a former White House advisor who is now an ABC News consultant.

Federal investigators say Aragoncillo, a naturalized citizen from the Philippines, used his top secret clearance to steal classified intelligence documents from White House computers.

In 2000, Aragoncillo worked on the staff of then-Vice President Al Gore. When interviewed by Philippine television, he remarked how valued Philippine employees were at the White House.

Aragoncillo is believed to have stolen classified documents from the Vice-President's office and sent them to opposition political groups in the Philippines. The information was sent primarily in emails.

I'm sure we'll hear more on this story. Jay at Stop The ACLU has more.

Evil Bastard Slime-Toads

Got a spoof e-mail just now to another hotmail account, and it's really slick, and really sick:

fake amazon.jpg

It is better quality than most spoof e-mails I receive, and the grammar is flawless. Only a close reading of the punctuation reveals it's a fraud. After searching out the IP addresses, I discovered the mail originated from a Singaporean web provider and the spoof site is hosted in Beijing.

I forwarded the mail off to stop-spoofing@amazon.com and I would encourage anyone else who receives this email to do the same. I lack the time to come up with sufficiently harsh invective to convey my contempt for these parasites. They are worse than looters, I believe, since they are effectively stealing from the Red Cross as well as from the owners of the credit card numbers they will steal. They prey on the generosity of good people, and they deserve no better than a looter would receive if he were caught stealing from the Red Cross.

PLEASE NOTE: This spoof e-mail did not actually come from Amazon.com–it was mocked up by criminals in Asia to appear as if it came from Amazon. Amazon is another victim in this matter, as their reputation and relationships with their customers are damaged by it.

About Lance and EPO

OK, I've been commenting on a lot of blogs about the Lance Armstrong/EPO accusations, and figured it's about time to put my thoughts into a blog post. First of all Daily Pundit can get you caught up on the all-important minutia of the controversy: whether the EPO test is definitive; what a "B sample" is; what the specific accusations are and who's making them; and what kind of things strike people as suspicious about choices made by L’Equipe. Go get caught up.

Now it's my turn.

Beth Geisel Gets DWI

(Albany, New York) Most people, after finding themselves in a hole, quit digging. Not 42-year-old Sandra "Beth" Geisel. Remember, it's only been a couple weeks since she was indicted for rape of a student in a high-profile case that has embarrassed and humiliated her children, her husband, her friends, and the Christian Brothers Academy.

Yet today, around 0830 EDT, she decides to drive while sloshed, cuts off a police car, and gets arrested for driving while intoxicated. She blew a 0.13 on the breathalyzer. And this all happened before 9am.

The only explanation I can figure for Geisel's behavior is that she's trying to fortify her contention that the hooch made her commit the rape of a student, or that she's exceedingly stupid. In either case, she's a menace to society.

Gay Inmates Abused

Apparently, the California Constitution guarantees the right of people to not be called names.

From the SacBee:

About 20 gay inmates were forced to remove their clothes in a busy hallway July 19 at the Men's Central Jail while being called names and taunted with vulgar sexual language by some deputies, the ACLU said in a letter to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, citing inmates' claims.

"Such behavior by staff demonstrates a level of immaturity, lack of professionalism, and sadism, which tarnishes the reputation of the entire department," wrote Ricardo Garcia and Jody Kent, who monitor jailhouse issues for the ACLU of Southern California.

The ACLU wanted anti-discrimination training for all deputies.

The same thing happened to me. I went to boot camp at Great Lakes, Illinois, and was called names and taunted with vulgar sexual language everyday. It's nice to see the ACLU devoting resources to the dangerous problem of name-calling. What a bunch of dicks.

Condemned Killer Gets Presidential Award

Here's the scenario. A man forms a gang of murderous thugs and infests every major city in the United States with crime. Oops! Along the way, he gets convicted of four murders and is sentenced to death. That was 24 years ago, but no worry.

From The Mercury-News:

Convicted murderer Stanley "Tookie" Williams has received an award for his good deeds on death row, complete with a letter from President Bush praising the notorious gang founder for demonstrating "the outstanding character of America."

Williams, co-founder of the notorious Crips street gang, has been an anti-gang activist during his many years on death row at San Quentin State Prison, where he was sent after being convicted in 1981 for killing four people.

"Good deeds on death row!"

This is wrong and it sends the wrong message to other condemned killers. And, since when does death row symbolize just another opportunity to queer the system? The only communication ever permitted from death row should be, "BZZZ-ZZZ! Next! We have an opening."

No mail, no pencils, no paper, no opportunity for good deeds and, above all, no Presidential Awards!
