Hostage Hoax Uncovered

hoax.jpg
Hat Tip: Beth at MVRWC

I, for one, am still not buying it. I'd be less surprised to find the hoaxter in Berkely than Baghdad.

UPDATE: I hate being so right. Confederate Yankee uncovers the hoax behind the person confessing to the hoax. Site translation

Following is the translation of the hoaxterÂ’s apology message, written on February 2, 2005:

In the name of God, the Most Merciful and Most Compassionate,

Soldier John Adam is [only] a toy.

I am a 20-year old Iraqi young man. I am unarmed, independent and do not belong to any party or group. I apologize to all the parties and everyone, for I meant nothing by that [no harm].

The picture was a scheme that I made up with a toy that I bought with $5.

Today I am announcing that this news was made up, and that the picture was of a toy that I worked on with the help of some children.

I cannot provide any information about me because, as I mentioned earlier, I am unarmed, and any information about me might jeopardize my life and the lives of my family [members].

My apologies to everyone.

3 No, that it was an Iraqi behind the 'hostage taking'.

4 The hand holding the doll looks plastic to me. ;-)

5 Arms are not the only thing he lacks. He lacks a sense of decency in making light of something that has tragically happened to real soldiers and civilians. He should be ashamed.

9 So it's a fake of a fake. My original comments still go.

10 In the picture that the guy is setting up the toy hostage the flag behind him is higher off the ground than in the picture in the newspapers and the ground he's sitting on is kind of chipped, but the ground in the picture in the newspaper it's not chipped the same way, also the toy in the package has his pants tucked into his boots and the picture that was sent to us his pants are not tucked in. And just because we can't account for a missing US soldier doesn't mean he's not just some iraqi citizen that they used to make this photo. And his head isn't the same shape as the toy.
