Freed Hostage Apologizes to Bush

Call former hostage Douglas Wood the 'anti-Sgrena'. Unlike that Communist serial liar and terror supporter who decided on her own it would be a good idea to shoot a video and beg the Italian people to pressure the Berlusconi government to withdraw troops from Iraq, Douglas Wood only made similar pleas because an AK-47 was pointed at his head.

Yesterday, in a brief interview with the press, Wood apologized to President Bush, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Prime Minister Howard. He also reiterated his support for the no negotiations with terrorists policy of the Allied governments. Melbourne Herald Sun:

"Frankly I'd like to apologize to both President (George W.) Bush and Prime Minister (John) Howard for the things I said under duress," said Mr Wood "I actually believe that I am proof positive that the current policy of training the Iraqi army ... works because it was Iraqis that got me out," he added.
Douglas Wood is proof positive all hostages in Iraq don't get Stockholm syndrome.

In the original hostage video, which I transcribed here, Wood can be heard saying:

President Bush, Prime Minister Howard, Governor Schwarzenegger, family, friends, please help take the American troops, the Australian troops, the British troops out of here and let Iraq look out for itself.
When asked who his captors were, Wood ruled out al Qaeda since his head was still connected to his neck. No joke. Yahoo News (with link from Howie below) :
"I didn't know whether it was al-Qaida or who it was," he said. "My head is intact, so it wasn't al-Qaida."

1 I wonder how long it will take the leftards to start attacking and smearing him now? I'll put even odds on the first attack being either at DU or kos.

3 If I could make a minor quibble, I don't think Doug Wood's comments were similar to Sgrena's in any way. He didn't prattle on about evil US imperialism or blame the US or Australia. His statement was only one sentence long: "leave or I will be killed" And did you notice the black eye on his face when he said it? How do you suppose that got there? Between the brevity of the statement, and the fact he only made it under physical coercion, Doug sucessfully thwarted his captors' ability to use his imprisonment for political purposes, at great risk to his own safety and health.

4 OK, I better correct myself, as the statement you linked to was far less brief than what was originally reported in my local paper. Still, it was very clear he was roughed up quite a bit before making it, so I think my broader point is still valid.

5 Douglas Wood in all news reports is being clasified as an Australian, what I am trying to find out his status in America. His wife is American and he lives in the states and has worked in the states for many years, has he taken out American citizenship. The Australian law before April 2002 was that if you where born in Australia, which Douglas wood was and take out an other citizenship you can not retain your Australian citizenship. The law was changed, but not made retrospective in April 2002. If he does have American citizenship before April 2002 it could make a interesting news story especially in Australia.

7 Once again I agree with Greyrooster, Mr Woods did nothing wrong.
