Read the Koran, the Sunnah, and the Hadith. Listen to the imams preaching from the mosques on every Friday.
We're not short of a clash of civilizations, this clash has been going on for 1400 years. Islam clashes with every civilization it has come in contact with since Mohammed sucked on the hookah and claimed to see Gabriel.
On the other hand, with respect to Mr. Joyner, I'll grant him this. There isn't a clash of civilizations because Islam has yet to be civilized.

Well hallelujah! I no longer have to serve as the lone voice in the wilderness, declaiming muslims for the uncouth savages they are. Vinnie speaks truth here; islam, in the words of the sainted Winston Churchill, is the most powerful retrograde force that exists, and if it is not stopped, will bring a reign of horror worldwide from which humanity will not recover.

"To tell you the truth, I don't see even see them as humans anymore. America is a pig."
Ugh. Now there's a fine sentiment to wake up to. I guess it isn't lost on these people that, if we had thought Zawahiri was in America or Japan or Europe or China, we wouldn't be taking such a cavalier attitude toward collateral damage. Since we're dealing with savages, it doesn't matter if we get sloppy and harass the savages we aren't after. If they weren't terrorists they were probably planning to be.
This is a real foolish attitude to take given our diplomatic position. If we were embarked on a campaign of world conquest, we could disregard the sentiments of Moslem states, but we ain't. As anyone who has watched a bar fight knows, making enemies out of people you don't plan on fighting right away is real freaking stupid, and the worst thing you can do is poke the yokel you have a problem with in the chest and say, "You and your friends here..." Hope you want to take 'em all on. A wise man isolates his foes diplomatically. Even Hitler had the sense to kiss up to Stalin before he was ready with the sucker punch.
That's not to say we can't take 'em all on. I think we could roll our tanks from Morocco to the Indian border and find no one willing and able to put up a serious fight. The trouble is that we don't have the manpower for the occupation. It's much cheaper to pretend that Saudi Arabia is a respectable sovereign state like the rest of us than it would be to police all of Hejaz. As to Islam, we need to treat it as "facts on the ground." You can't rub out a religion by killing people. The Romans failed at that project and it hasn't worked for anybody since them.

Really, Shannon. That's an interesting comment.
What the hell are you quoting anyway?
Too bad you fail to realize that Islam has been trying to wipe out Western civilization for 1400 years.
Were you born an asshole? Or did you work at it your whole life?
Take my advice. Stay in bed next time. I have a bad habit of making you say what I want you to say.

"...if we had thought Zawahiri was in America or Japan or Europe or China, we wouldn't be taking such a cavalier attitude toward collateral damage."
That's kind of a moot point. Zawahiri wouldn't have huge throngs of people willing to hide him, abet him or support him in those countries. They would be found much more quickly and scooped up by local authorities. No bombing required.
Not only that, but you're implying that diplomacy works equally with all Middle Eastern rulers, or that it was never tried with the others. In maintaining any ties at all to Saudi Arabia, the idea is to "keep your enemies close". The fact is though, that however slight, the Saudis have at least made overtures toward reform as well as Egypt. This was the result of attempts at diplomacy, results that never materialized in other Middle East/Muslim countries. Has the EU's diplomacy with Iran produced any positive results? Uh, nope. Did Lybia give up its nuclear ambitions due to years of trying to be diplomatic? Uh, nope. Did Syria leave Lebanon because we were nice to them? Uh, nope. Did we invade any of them? Again, nope.
Yes, diplomacy should be the attempted first, but when it doesn't work ...

Vinnie,
I was commenting on the article that was quoted by the article that you quoted. I think. I've been surfing the news since I got up and I may have it confused with another. And I can't go to bed because I have work today. I wouldn't miss Sunday workdays for the World. Thanks to Al Gore's fabulous invention I can sit alone in an office and have 3 simultaneous arguments on the message boards while I work.
And I am aware that Islam has been trying to sweep the globe for 1400 years. I'm also aware that the sun is going to expire in a billion years, or something like that. They haven't gained any ground for what, 7 centuries? What do you think they've been doing? Lingering over tea? And what in particular do you you expect from them when they finally hitch up their britches and go on the offensive? They gonna storm us like the Syrians did Golan? Ooooh, meh shakin' in meh booties!

Clash of economic interests, if any clash.
I say it's Bush miserably failing to be popular the way Putin successfully is.
(pointless war started by attacking ones own and blaming it on some useless agent in some irrelevant country, and then blowing it out of proportion through media)

Shannon, we don't need to occupy from Morocco to India, we just need to roll over them, crush them like the vermin they are, and leave them starving in their desert shitholes.

Dagnammit, not Communist either, Sosialism only works if people want it really much. War-powered ideologies always fail eventually.
Putin isn't Communist, by the way... Just a great leader, who knows exactly how to control absolutely everything at once. Bush has a lot to learn, his pathetic attempts to copy Vladimir are no match for the superb universal control Putin achieved over Russia through the war in Tsetsenia.
I haven't seen leadership this omnipotent and internationally approved since pre-WW2 Hitler, and this one isn't doing ethnic cleansings.

Yep, there isn't a Stalinist old Finn doesn't love! Or an Islamist for that matter.
