Ohio Men Indicted on Terrorism Charges

(Toledo, Ohio) Three Toledoans have been indicted on charges of planning attacks to try to kill U.S. military personnel and coalition forces in Iraq.

From FoxToledo.com:

Mohammad Zaki Amawi, Marwan Othman El-Hindi, and Wassim I. Mazloum are accused of conspiring to kill or maim persons in and out of the United States, including U.S. Forces personnel. The Federal indictment obtained by Fox Toledo News Tuesday morning says the three were also solicting funding for jihad training, including government grants and private sponsorship.

The accused had travelled to the mid East to establish training facilities for terrorist activities, among other charges.

The three men were apprehended over the weekend.

From Cleveland.com:

The indictment - unsealed today in Toledo - lays out details of a conspiracy that purportedly began in November of 2004 when Amawi and Mazloum met with a third person to discuss violent jihad training.

According to the indictment, the men later trained with weapons at a Toledo firing range, downloaded videos on how to put together suicide bomb vests and talked about shipping chemical explosives for bombs to the Middle East.

In addition, the indictment says some of the men were learning how to make Improvised Explosive Devices - IEDs - out of common household items and at least one hoped to fund their training and attacks by opening a non-profit foundation.

In the end, Amawi and another unidentified person from the Toledo area went to Jordan last year and tried to enter Iraq to join the insurgents in their fight against U.S. and allied forces, but they failed, the indictment said. It's unclear what stopped them.

Amawi has dual citizenship of Jordan and the U.S. Marwan Othman El-Hindi is a U.S. citizen born in Jordan and Wassim I. Mazloum came to the U.S. from Lebanon in 2000.

In a possibly related action, federal agents on Sunday also raided the offices of a non-profit Muslin charity called Kindhearts for allegedly providing support to Hamas. It's presently not clear whether the arrests of Amawi, El-Hindi, and Mazloum are linked to Kindhearts.

4 because two were naturalized citizens, and the other was a permanent resident (had not received Citizenship). So like it or not, they are "Ohioans".

8 It's just a matter of time before these bastards start blowing themselves up and mass murdering people in the US. I hope everyone here at the Jawa is ready for this. In other words, don't go to large events, or malls, or anywhere there is likely to be a large crowd that would attract one of these fools. And get your concealed carry license and be ready to take action against these people if you get the chance. You might save a lot of lives, and one of those could be your own or your children.

10 What is more telling is the fact that two of them were naturalized citizens, this means they have learnt all of the history of the United States, for their test have lived here five or more years, and futher took the pledge. So, even with all the opportunities, privileges and entitlements being a U.S citizen affords, they still harbor deep loyalties and resentment that supersede the act of being a U.S citizen. I wonder what that loyalty could be?

11 I'm glad to see everyone's starting to understand what has to be done; we will have to kill them off soon, because we won't have any choice.

12 "Toledans" and "Ohioans" may be techinically correct, but "muslim" would be more accurate and informative.

13 Jesusland Carlos, The word Muslim would be more compassionate, and sensitive too. Buy Danish!

14 I think the LPR (legal permanent resident) could be probably be deported if convicted. That's better than us paying to jail him for life. I think we're stuck w the 2 citizens tho.

15 Jesusland Joe, You are absolutely, 100% correct. It is just a matter of time before they begin small-scale attacks here on U.S. soil. I am not a paranoid conspiracy theorist nor am I hoping this happens so I can get some knotches on the stock of my rifle. Small-scale is simply easier for them to carry out. How hard is it for one guy to strap on a bomb and walk into a local Wal-Mart? Or take an AK into a shopping mall? IEDs on main street? This kind of shit is going to happen eventually, and all we can do is prepare ourselves. It is simple statistics that says small-scale attacks like these will slip through the cracks. On the contrary, according to the Islamic Jihad Movement of Jordan, one of the only things standing in the way of attacks like these in the U.S. is armed and knowledgeable citizens. I would be one such citizen, and eliminating jihadis here in the states would be less difficult for me than stepping in ants. I hope it never happens, but...

16 Jack, you can hope in one hand and... well, you know. Personally, I see it as inevitable that they will begin their cowardly attacks here soon, but I think that for every American they kill, they will lose quite a few more, not to mention burned homes, businesses, and mosques. They are a tiny minority and stand out like a sore thumb, so they can't hide anywhere really, because once it starts, they will all be targets. Every last one will have to be killed or driven from America before we can be safe.
