Ya know, this is looking more and more like Miers was just a lightning rod to polarize the base. She was both a token female and a token moderate, and was soundly rejected, but on wholly different criteria, i.e. her qualifications. Maybe Bush was sending us a symbolic message? Sometimes I think the man is a closet genius, but then, how many of his detractors have degrees from Yale
and Harvard?

Heh. Libby indeed. I think they struck a better blow when they got Jeff "Big Gay (the bad kind) Porn C*ck" Gannon-Guckert. They aimed for the evil mastermind and hit a guy who schedules staff meetings. I'm sure Osama is heartbroken.
Oh, before I forget, liberals are scum and should all be killed.

No word from the media yet on how many babies he's eaten, how many barefoot and pregnant women are in his kitchen, or how much crack he's distributed in the inner city to oppress minorities.
I'll let you know when those details come out.

I feel pretty,
Oh, so pretty,
I feel pretty and witty and bright!
And I pity
Any girl who isn't me tonight.
I feel charming,
Oh, so charming
It's alarming how charming I feel!
And so pretty
That I hardly can believe I'm real.
See the pretty girl in that mirror there:
Who can that attractive girl be?
Such a pretty face,
Such a pretty dress,
Such a pretty smile,
Such a pretty me!
I feel stunning
And entrancing,
Feel like running and dancing for joy,
For I'm loved
By a pretty wonderful boy!

Samuel Alito is definitely a right wing radical. He actually believes that the constitution is supposed to be followed, to the letter of the law....doesnt he know that judges are supposed to do what they feel is right regardless of what is in the constitution? New Delhi Bombings - Update
(New Delhi) The number of dead from yesterday's three near-simultaneous
bombings at locations (
map) in New Delhi has grown to over 60 with around 200 injured, some seriously. Investigators have detained over 20 suspects in raids of small hotels around New Delhi. It is now known that two of the bombs exploded amid large shopping crowds at Paharganj and Sarojini Nagar. The third bomb, however, was on a
bus at the market of Govindpuri.
Police said they were looking for a man in his 20s who refused to buy a ticket on a bus and got off in the Govindpuri neighbourhood, leaving behind a large black bag. When some of the 40 passengers raised an alarm, the driver and bus conductor examined it and threw it out just as the blast occurred, injuring them both.
The media are in almost universal agreement that those responsible
belong to a little-known small terrorist group.
A man saying he represented the terrorist group "Islamic Inquilab Mahaz," or "Front for Islamic Uprising," took responsibility for the bombings in a call to the Kashmir News Service in Jammu and Kashmir. The little-known group is tied to the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, the most feared terrorist group in Kashmir, police said.
The caller, who identified himself as Ahmed Yaar Ghaznavi, said the attack "was meant as a rebuff to the claims of Indian security groups" that terrorist fighters had been wiped out by military crackdowns and the October 8 South Asian earthquake.
Not everyone, though, agrees that Islamic Inquilab Mahaz (IIM) is a little known group as indicated by this
report from
The Times of India.
The group that has claimed responsibility for Saturdays serial blasts in Delhi -- Islami Inqilabi Mahaz -- is neither unknown nor unfamiliar in India. According to terrorism analyst Ajai Sahni, it is just another name for Lashkar-e-Taiba, which is based in Pakistan under the influence of ISI and is the best known successor organisation of Al-Qaida.
The ISI is Pakistan's
Inter-Service Intelligence agency. A rogue element in the Pakistani government, ISI has strong links to Wahabism and radical Islamic political and military groups. Even so, a Pakistani Foreign Office spokesman
stated that "the attack in a crowded market place is a criminal act of terrorism."
From the Mumbai Mirror:
A day after the deadly blasts shook the Capital, the security brass indicated it had reasons to believe it was the handiwork of familiar jehadi module -- Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence operatives.
[ ... ]
Notwithstanding Islamabad's prompt denouncement of Delhi's serial blast, the government agencies said they have compelling evidence to prove that ISI modules are working with official Pak patronage. "We had the information that three or four modules -- each module consisting of a group three or four men -- had entered the country some time ago."
A massive search and destroy effort was undertaken to stop the ISI modules. Unfortunately, the effort hasn't been entirely successful.
Although the investigations of the bombings in New Delhi are ongoing, I believe some certainties have surfaced:
- The bombings were terrorist acts by a radical Islamic group,
- The Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency is linked to the bombings,
- The ISI wields power largely independent of President Musharraf,
- The Indians are restless and expect a forceful government response, and
- By calling the group responsible for the bombings as 'little-known' or 'unknown,' the media demonstrate that they didn't do their homework.
In a directly-related
development, the trial of Lashkar-e-Taiba militant Mohammad Arif alias Ashfaq, believed to be a triggering circumstance for the New Delhi bombings, has concluded. Ashfaq was sentenced to death by a Delhi court.

'Little known' or 'unknown', eh?
Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain! Sometimes I think the media are in active collusion with the forces of anti-civilization. Regardless, India needs to invade Pakistan and get it over with. As long as there is one muslim left alive in the world, there will be terrorism.

The ISI grew fat and powerful during the 1980's when ALL USA covert aid to the mujahadin passed through their hands. It was the ISI who also created the taliban movement. More misappropriation of what some call "DaneGeld, and what others may call blowback.

John's right on this one. Because of foreign policy priorities throughout the 80's and 90's, the CIA financed the building of the Taliban and the growth of the ISI's power. I'd say it's definitely blowback, but our payments to the paleo-stinians are Dane-geld.

Christian Schoolgirls Beheaded
(Poso, Indonesia) Three Christian girls walking to school were beheaded earlier today by men in black clothes and masks near the Muslim town of Poso. The town lies about 1,000 miles northeast of Jakarta and is in a region of considerable Muslim-Christian strife. This story
makes me sick.
From TheStar.com:
National police spokesman Aryanto Budiharjo said up to six men in black clothes and masks attacked the students in Bukit Bambu village, on the eastern island of Sulawesi.
"The perpetrators wore black attire and veils and they used machetes to slash (the victims)," he told reporters in Jakarta.
The three headless bodies of the high school students, dressed in brown uniforms, were left at the site of the attack. Three heads were found at separate locations two hours later by residents.
Earlier, a police official in Poso gave a different account, saying two men wearing helmets on a motorcycle attacked the 16-year-old students.
He said the student who escaped said the attackers wore helmets and carried a two-way radio.
The killings have been condemned by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono who called the murders "sadist and inhuman crimes."

IM: Whether they were being chased or not, people don't instinctively run from police if they haven't done anything wrong. And then they try to hide out in a high voltage area? And people riot over their stupidity?
After reading several accounts of the riots and the descriptions of the tough neighborhood this took place in with "soviet-style" public housing and gang activity, I'm surprised France has, so many times, had the nerve to criticize us.

Bomb Blasts in New Delhi, Scores Killed
(New Delhi, India) Three powerful
bombs were detonated today in crowded shopping areas (
map) of the capital city. The first blast occurred about 5:40pm IST at the main market in Paharganj, a popular meeting area for foreign tourists and backpackers. Another explosion followed in Sarojini Nagar, a busy shopping area popular among the middle class and foreigners. Soon after, the teeming market of Govindpuri was attacked. Police, fire brigades, bomb disposal teams, and anti-terror squads rushed to the scene as the whole city was placed on
security alert.
Thus far, reports on the number of casualties have been sketchy. The dead and injured are expected to be numerous. Most places were unusually crowded due to the upcoming Diwali festival, a major Hindu holiday during which families exchange gifts, light candles and celebrate with fireworks.
It's unclear who is responsible for the blasts, but Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal stated that the attacks were "handiwork of those who were backed by anti-India elements."
"From preliminary observations, it can be said the explosives were kept in a cycle rickshaw or a motorcycle. At least 40 are injured and six to eight people have expired," Delhi Police Commissioner KK Paul told reporters in Paharganj.
According to Home Secretary V.K. Duggal, an alert was sounded in all states for possible terrorist attacks during the Diwali season.
The Guardian reports that a bus was bombed in addition to the shopping areas.
Rediff India reports that 50 people are dead and 70 are injured. Also, the blasts are suspected to be the handiwork of banned Pakistan-based Lashker-e-Toiba outfit.
HindustanTimes.com reports that:
- 48 are confirmed dead,
- Police raid hotels in Paharganj,
- Home Ministry says RDX was used in blasts,
- Two suspects arrested at New Delhi Railway Station,
- Blasts being blamed on an intelligence failure.
A top advisor to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh stated that the bombings were surely the work of terrorists but which group is unknown at present. Opposition from numerous terrorist groups constantly faces India. From fringe organizations to militarized Kashmiri rebels, India has its enemies.

Also the Indonesian incident is just shocking and shocking.
The attack which took place in India is just to put fear into the public.Every1 knows that since a big festival is round the corner a lot people will be out shopping,etc....ah a perfect place to attack. The idea is just to kill innocents. and what the ####ing justification to they have???

really care about the terroists in US custody, who may be made uncomfortable while on sabbatical from murdering innocent people. Liberals are all scum and should all be killed. See? It sounds a little less crazy every day, doesn't it?

I just got through reading an article a few weeks ago praising how India is so much more superior to others in that their Arab Muslim immigrants had assimilated so well into the Indian culture and everyone lived in peace there. I sure wish I could find it now.

Yeah Oyster, I've heard that line before too, but the truth is that since independence and partition there have been frequent incidents of violence between muslims and Hindus in India, often with dozens or hundreds dead, and usually over something stupid like a goat or something like that.

I am so disgusted by the actions of the ROP this weekend, especially the beheading of the little girls, that I cannot stand to even look at a Muslim.
When will the moderate Muslims, if they exist, speak out against this evil. The civilized governments of the World need to take action quickly, or it's about time for their citizens to. After this weekend, I'm ready myself.

They can't for two reasons - even moderate muslims are irrationally protective of their "dirty laundry" while at the same time doing little to nothing in washing it. Some kind of stupid hangup.
The other reason is one we rarely here about. Terror as a tactic sometimes works - and terror and violence is widespread throughout the muslim world against other muslims. Speak up or speak out in some countries and the fanatics will kill you and your family with little fear from their governments.

A Quick Look At The Indictment
I just got done listening to Fitzgerald's press conference.
I believe that in addition to Scooter Libby, the following people should be forced to resign in the wake of this scandal:
Ari Fleischer
John Ashcroft
Colin Powell
Paul O'Neill
My mailman
The grumpy lady at the social security office
The entire staff of the Internal Revenue Service
One final thought. Now that he has copious amounts of free time, perhaps Mr. Libby can track down the person who nicknamed him "Scooter" and kick his ass.
Ok, I gotta go back to work now.
UPDATE:
Howie says his parents nicknamed him. Well then, that explains how he turned into such a hardened criminal.
And while we're on the subject, I must announce that I am asking Rusty to refer to a special prosecutor in order to investigate WHO LEAKED MY EMAIL TO FILTHY ALLAH! Who, btw, is cooking beef stew today.

Uh his parents called him that because as he was learning to crawl he scooted around in some fashion I'm not sure exactly how. But they called him scooter and it stuck.
One comment Fitzgerald is a pit bull of a prosecutor. He goes after anyone no matter the party. If this was all he found it makes me feel pretty good. Scooter just made the same mistake Martha did. Keep yer mouth shut silly.

Danes Arrest Muslims in Terror Plot
(Copenhagen, Denmark) Four male Middle Eastern Muslims, aged 16 to 20, have been arrested in Denmark on suspicion of planning a suicide terror attack in Europe.
From the BBC:
The arrests were linked to a recent inquiry in the Balkans in which arrests were made and large quantities of explosives were found, police said.
No details were given of the intended target of the group's alleged plot.
"We suspect the four young men of being participants in preparation of terrorist acts somewhere in Europe," said police spokesman Joern Bro.
The suspects are closely linked to three men arrested previously in the Balkans for planning an attack on the British or American embassies in Sarajevo. A tipster in an unnamed Balkan nation led to the arrests.
Notably, most of the reporting on this story is referring to the suspected terrorists as 'men.' In my opinion, 16-year-old boys are not men and at least one of the suspects is 16. The thought of having boys running around Europe with terrorism on their minds is frightening. Boys usually can mingle anonymously in society since they are not old enough to have graduated from school, nor to have a work history, nor to have been in the government or military. Typically, there are no photographs nor fingerprints. Spooky.

Sixteen is a whole different matter in Europe. Whereas the U.S seems to revolve around the age of eighteen, in Britain I could legally purchase, and smoke cigarettes, leave both school and home, and sex was considered consensual.
Just a little perspective of sixteen europe vs. eighteen American.

With the hatred these guys are fed constantly, the trend is bound to show up elsewhere in the world. I noticed the same thing at a muslim wedding I photographed last year. The two families were pretty much all first and second generation Pakistani-Americans, with a few old-country visitors and recent arrivals. The older ones, the original immigrants and the adult or near adult children who were born here, were all pretty much Americanized, especially the girls, who though being dressed in native clothing, weren't at all shy about me photographing them and who sounded just like any girl in any mall across America.
The difference I noticed was in the boys under 21, who were mostly sullen and kept glancing at me and my wife, who were two of the only three white people there, the third being a guy who converted to marry a muslim girl. The looks they gave me were nothing short of suspicious and hostile, and I suspected that they are products of a combination of normal male teenage angst and confusion and a feeling of alienation from the only society they've ever known. They are strangers in their own country, yet it isn't their own country.
I make no excuses for the bad behavior of anyone, and even less so for anyone who has been given every consideration and opportunity in a society that accepts all without judgment, but I do understand how young muslims males can become so easily radicalised. The only viable solution I can see is to strengthen the rules allowing deportation so that when these boys are clearly failing to assimilate, they should be sent home.

Miers Withdraws as Supreme Court Nominee
President Bush announced the withdrawal of Harriet Miers as a nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court. The President reluctantly accepted her letter of withdrawal. No links yet. Developing ...
[Update 0950 EDT]
It's being reported that Miers talked to President Bush last night and asked if she could withdraw.
From the Chicago Tribune:
President Bush said he reluctantly accepted her decision to withdraw, after weeks of insisting that he did not want her to step down. He blamed her withdrawal on calls in the Senate for the release of internal White House documents that the administration has insisted were protected by executive privilege.
"It is clear that senators would not be satisfied until they gained access to internal documents concerning advice provided during her tenure at the White House -- disclosures that would undermine a president's ability to receive candid counsel," Bush said. "Harriet Miers' decision demonstrates her deep respect for this essential aspect of the constitutional separation of powers -- and confirms my deep respect and admiration for her."
Washington is stunned by the news since the withdrawal of a nominee is quite
unusual. It has occurred with only seven of 150 nominees in the history of the Supreme Court.

I'm great I used to have to study the bible and go through life to determine right and wrong but now since the Feds and corporations showed me in plain black and white thay they have clear title to my body I've stopped all that.
What do yo do now?
I just read the Federal code of law and the company policy book. They tell me just what I can't put in my body, Where I can go, What I can do, who I can hang with and that my money still belongs to them even after I get the check for my work and I should spend it where they tell me to. Saves me a whole lot of trouble. Freedom was so burdensome I had to make all kinds of descisions. Now that I'm a slave I'm happy. Big load off my mind.

Judge Orders Release of Gitmo Records
Lawyers representing hunger-striking Guantanamo Bay detainees have
convinced U.S. District Court Judge Gladys Kessler to order the government to inform detainees' defense lawyers at least 24 hours before any force-feeding and to provide the lawyers with medical records weekly.
Julia Tarver, a lawyer for three of the detainees, asserted in court papers that when she visited her clients she found them weak and sometimes able to speak only with difficulty because of throat lesions they said were caused by having the feeding tubes forced in. Ms. Tarver said one detainee, Yousef Al-Shehri, told her that a feeding tube had been roughly inserted through his nose into his throat, causing him to spit up blood.
Notably, without the forced-feeding, the detainees likely would have died and, according to the government, none have.
Judge Kessler acted on an emergency petition because it was "deeply troubling" that detainees had feeding tubes inserted without sedatives or anesthesia.
"If the allegations are true - and they are all explicitly, specifically and vigorously denied by the government - they describe the conduct of which the United States can hardly be proud," the judge wrote.
Although Kessler directed the government to provide notifications and records, she denied the request for the lawyers to have immediate telephone access to the detainees.
It seems that Judge Kessler's decision is based exclusively on the adequacy of the medication administered to the detainees prior to inserting the feeding tubes. Her ruling indicates that the detainees are not sufficiently drugged before having a tube shoved up their noses and down their esophaguses. I must assume that there have been past cases where judges have determined the amount medication to be administered. I'm personally uncomfortable with the idea. In my estimation, no amount of legal training and experience prepares a judge to practice medicine.
Nevertheless, ordering the release of medical documents will surely prompt the detainees' lawyers to start searching for other issues to litigate. The latest wrangling over the medication issue is part of an ongoing campaign by human rights advocates to force the government into giving the detainees more legal rights.
It's unknown whether the government will appeal.

Anyone amazed that a Judge is able to determine Medicine?
it works for the Insurance Companies who's $12.00/hr lackeys decide what medication you can, and can't have if they pay for it, or when you're well enough to leave Hospital etc.

I've never really understood why we can't just leave them to starve. everyone else has the right to commit suicide in any way they like. I know there's the argument about providing martyrs for the cause, but I'm not convinced that decades of what amounts to torture deflates any of that!
Same with the dirty protests in Ireland in the 70's. If they want to paint their cell walls in excrement & sit in it, let them.
Of course this only applies if you belive they are capable of making rational decisions. But if you don't, then they should not be in prison in the first place, as they can not have commited a deliberate crime.

If things keep going the way they are, it won't be long before the military will have to ask a court for permission to drop a bomb. One wonders how a war can be fought with constant court interventions, and one wonders where all the money is coming from for these people. If I had to guess, I would bet the money is coming from the US government, as stupid as that sounds. The money has to be coming from someplace, perhaps even foreigners. This needs to be looked into. Sure wish we had a media.

Joe,
I believe you're correct, they do get taxpayers money from a clause in the Civil Rights Act, one of the following proposed amendments is a direct attack against the ACLU being funded under the Civil Rights Act:
http://stoptheaclu.com/archives/2005/06/01/public-expression-of-religion-act-of-2005-introduced-in-house/
This article also references it:
http://www.legion.org/?section=pub_relations&subsection=pr_listreleases&content=pr_press_release&id=289
The 1976 Civil Rights Attorney's Fee Awards Act was much needed legislation, but in recent years, certain groups have abused the congressional intent of this public law in 'Establishment Clause' lawsuits against the Boy Scouts of America, the Ten Commandments, and now veterans' memorials, " said Thomas P. Cadmus, National Commander of The American Legion. "And it is time to fix it!"
"Exorbitant attorney fees awarded by Courts to be paid by American taxpayers has become the newest 'Sword of Damocles' strategically employed by organizations like the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) to coerce settlements by cities, counties, states, and large organizations like the Boy Scouts of America and the Department of Defense by suits and threats of lawsuits against any public expression of America's religious history, heritage, and values," Cadmus said. "When out-of-court settlements are more cost effective than the judicial process, then the system is clearly broken."
While the articles mainly reference religious practice, it's not a far stretch of the imagination to conclude that their current lawsuits also are filed under "Civil Rights" and you're picking up the tab.

Jesusland Joe,
Do you know anything at all about the media? I'm a reporter, and I can tell you that YOU have every bit as much ability and right to look into these things as I have. And you have just as much ability as I have to publish your findings on the Internet.
As for your concern that a war can't be fought with judicial involvement, have you ever heard of the concept of inalienable rights? It's this novel idea our FOUNDING FATHERS talked a bit about in our Constitution. And while they were using it in reference to the people of the United States, they were saying that it was applicable to all people. In fact, that's the whole reason we're fighting this war in Iraq, isn't it? Our action is based on the notion that Iraqis have the same inalienable rights, and their government should reflect this fact.
If we are not consistent with those beliefs in the way we treat prisoners of war, we will lose the central battle here -- the moral battle, the battle of ideas.

They're not "prisoners of war" whit, they're captured terrorists. To be a legal POW, they must be uniformed members of a military force engaged in declared conflict, among other criteria. Since they fit none of these criteria, they are criminals and terrorists, and should be beaten daily with a rubber hose while hanging from their genitalia, and made to sleep in their own filth until they talk, then taken out and shot and buried wrapped in pigskin.

Whit,
I was a newspaper editor for a small daily while in college, and had wanted to make it my career. I know a little about the media, especially the AP, through my experiences with them and other actors in the newspaper business.
I do not claim to have any special knowledge about the Constitution, other than what any citizen might gain from a reading of it. I do not believe I read anything in the Constitution that gave particular rights to the enemies of the United States, and most particular to persons who attack the US without the benefit of fighting for a recognized party under certain treaties signed and duly ratified by the US Senate. But I freely admit I could be wrong.
And yes, I admit I want the Iraqi people to have the same basic rights I have, but the insurgents are the ones trying to prevent that, i.e. we are in a conflict with them. They are not recognized as combatants by treaty or international law, so I must assume they should not receive the same treatment as a POW under international agreements. If I am wrong, please correct me, because I admit to not having specialized knowledge in this field.

Is that how you usually treat criminals in the USA?
i agree they are criminals, and therefore have the same rights as any other criminals - specifically not to be tortured or murdered.

Mrs. A, Should they also be force fed if they choose not to eat or, left to die as they wish? I recently read the menus for the detainees at Gitmo. It turns out that we are providing over $12 of food a day to the detainees and less than $9 a day to the military working there.
It is my belief that if a person chooses not to eat and, they are fully capable of feeding themselves and offered decent food, than you should let them starve to death. Choice, isn't that what America is all about?

However, if you agree they are criminals, convicted of murder/treason whatever, they should be treated as criminals, which in America I believe means they should not be tortured, injured, forcibly starved etc. If you believe they are POW's, they should be treated under the codes of the Geneva Convention. If you think you need to invent a new category of detainee for terrorists, you need to draft/pass a law explaining their status.

Wal-Mart Attacked
In an effort to reduce employee health care costs and enhance profitability, a
memo recommending the hiring of more part-time workers and discouraging the hiring of unhealthy people was drafted for submittal to the Wal-Mart Board of Directors. In draft form, the memo was intercepted and anonymously sent to
Wal-Mart Watch, a union-backed activist group, which claims that a 'secret memo' was uncovered. On the other hand, it appears that Wal-Mart just considered the memo to be an internal document which was freely released in updated form when it was asked for.
Nonetheless, the union-backed team at Wal-Mart Watch is attempting to demonize Wal-Mart in its seemingly reasonable attempt to develop ideas and methods to reduce health care costs. Maybe it's just me, but I don't see anything wrong with part-time workers or discouraging the hiring of unhealthy workers. Nor do I see anything wrong with trying to enhance profitability.
Without scrutinizing the Wal-Mart memo, it's impossible to determine the reasonableness of the proposed changes. On the surface, it appears to reflect nothing more than a day in the operation and administration of a business. Unfortunately, and I've witnessed it already, the mainstream media have been characterizing the memo as an indication of a sinister and evil conspiracy to discriminate and subjugate.

You have never lived in a small town where Wal-Mart moves in and runs all the retail off. I am legally blind. I worry that I would not be welcome in the world where Wal-Mart picks and chooses people based on health care cost. My wife as asthma. She would also not be welcome I bet. I hope you and your family never have to deal with health problems. If you do, remember, Wal-Mart doesn't want you. What employer is next?

Clearly reading comprehension is old skool. The memo was not "freely" distributed. The memo was distributed when it was specifically asked for. Really though that is not what's important in this article. Let me point them out for you.
... 46 percent of the children of Wal-Mart's 1.33 million United States employees were uninsured or on Medicaid
These are gainfully employed contributing members of society. Does this not phase you in the least? These aren't people who just sit around waiting for the government. They are trying to do something.
cutting 401(k) contributions to 3 percent of wages from 4 percent ...
I think we all know there is something not right with social security. This should at least raise an eyebrow - at least one.
Her memo stated that 5 percent of Wal-Mart's workers were on Medicaid,...
On the flip side you have states like Ms and Fl axing benefits to these people who of all things ... are working. Lets discourage them a little more.
This is an article, not about some labor union thing, this is an article about the largest retailer in the United States struggling with health care costs that are rising at 15% a year! This is an inside view of the types of descisions that go on - this is business 101.

Kelly - I'm not unsympathetic to your situation, however, I sense that your attitude towards Wal-Mart was solidified prior to the latest memo. My contention is that Wal-Mart isn't doing anything that another company wouldn't do. Wal-Mart is unfairly demonized because it's non-union.

He said their work was constantly interrupted because they could not carry parts to an X-ray machine, or measuring machines because the Union manager would insist that another plant worker would have to pick up the parts, and take it to their destination for them, when my Father-in-law said he would do it himself, the Union manager would repeat the same mantra:
This is union here Buddy, you're taking another mans job
He said that was the last time he volunteered to go out there to help do an engine breakdown, and that shortly after that the company opened another plant in Mexico where it was cheaper for them to do repairs.
No wonder some companies choose to outsource.

While I have no love for unions, who have almost single-handedly destroyed American industry, (as per Marx's plan), I cannot take sides with Wal-Mart, whose employees are only slighty better treated than the Chinese sweatshop workers whose near-slave labor produced products they sell.
I saw Wal-Mart move into my area two decades ago and systematically turn all three towns in the county into ghost towns through their rapacious business practices. Family owned businesses that had been there for a hundred years were almost all boarded up, with the few survivors left to sell gas, beer and cigarettes. Wal-Mart is a plague upon the land, and anyone who shops there deserves to lose their job to Chinese prison labor.

Poor H. Lee Scott, send him a dollar he is paid 17.5 million dollars a year. The first thing Mr. Scott sould do is take responsibility for the memo. Fire the person who wrote the memo. and apologize to all the associates who work for this pitiful excuse for a Chineese 10 cent store. The managers and not professional just 90 day wonders with no back bone. They follow Mr. Scott like sheep.
Mr. Scott when will the company evaluat people on their abilities rather than the color of their nose. We have some people who work at Wal Mart and if the store manager would stop suddenly they would have a brown ring around their neck. Suck ups and people who take advantage are part of your waste and fat. You have rules and your management team chooses not to follow ther rules. I have heard it is in the book. The problem is everyone has a different book. Ther truth of the matter is too many chiefs and not enough Indians. But I am sorry now you probably do not want to hire native Americans. Get a grip you never are so big you can not fall. It will be a sad world when the only choice you have is to shop at Wal Mart / the modern day Ben Franklin. We are a cheap company with greedy leadership and nothing for the worker.
Take a up coming company who condsiders their people COSTCO, they provide the essentials.
Mr. Scott the days of your power will soon be over.
Let the people share in your wealth. You are putting Wal Mart in the toilet and the people you have in you management team are dragging the company and you along with them into the gutter. Associates have family friends and children. A back lash will most certainly occur.
I am sick and tired of your failure and your weak promises. Remember FEMA Sam Walton would have done the right thing. Mr. Scott you are not Sam Walton, and this is not how he would have run this company.
Call Benntonville, every day and have people tell them this is still the United States we do not treat people this way. Call congressmen, Call Senators. Email them call the local stores and talk to store managers. Call the newspapers call television call radio. Start phone grops. Together we all can show we are strong and united.
We can not let H. Lee Scott and his band of demons destroy the principles started by Sam Walton. It is not the nice place ot company he started. This company does not care all they want is blood and sweat no matter who get hurt.

Does anyone want to know why Wal-Mart wants to raise the minimum wage? Because it would hurt small businesses, that's why. Wally World could absorb a little extra payroll cost with ease, but most mom & pops would have to lay off or close up, thereby broadening the Evil Empire's market share. Wal-Mart should be prosecuted under the anti-trust laws, and broken up just like Ma Bell and Standard Oil.

No person, not even Bush can stop Wal-Mart. There is only one way. Don't buy there stuff and do every thing you can to help others do the same. Wal-Mart is selling America and it is going to keep doing it because you let it, every American needs to stand up and do what they can to help save our country. Wal-Mart watch is just that. People who see the evil and trying to pass the word. So to who ever owns this blog I say this. Wal-Mart watch is a way to bring people with the same views together to support the ballot boxes you talk of. And you use the idea that if you donÂ’t like it, go some where else. Well maybe you should do the same with the blog you donÂ’t like. Seems to make your whole argument pointless.

I shop at the local "Walmart Grocery Store" which, for those whom do not have them are just like the Grocery section in the Walmart SuperStore but freestanding.
Sure they're hurting the competition here, Albertson's already closed one of their stores in our city, however they're also a large corporation and that's the nature of competition, and it's not like we have a single family owned Grocery store here anyway.
Interestingly when people complain about Walmart taking jobs and peoples livelyhood, do you feel the same way about stores with automated checkouts?
I'm not sure about most states but here Walmart, HomeDepot, Lowes, Albertsons, Target have automated scanners that you use to checkout your own merchandise, this of course save the stores about 8 checkout workers, and 1 manager per shift, many times a day, effectively replacing workers with "robots" (hah who said the 1950's campy comic books were wrong?)
This I am sure is leading us down a road to where there will eventually be hardly any people in stores, by removing customer service Corporations can increase their profit margin. For those whom think that could never happen: remember at one time in this country, you could get your gas pumped for you, someone to clear your table at a fast food resturant, and someone to bag your groceries. Now of course, you pump your own gas, take your own tray to a waste receptacle, and now you have the pleasure of not only bagging your own groceries, but checking them out yourself too.
While some people concider the above as conveniences for the lazy, they also kept a lot of people gainfully employed. When they were removed it wasn't like the savings were passed to you, but were pocketed as increased profits.
It looks like we can look forward to shopping in stores with a skeleton crew, perhaps just kept round to maintain security, and deal with paperwork and management issues. Walmart could replace the "Greeter" with a motion detection monitor of a smiling actor, welcoming you to the store as you walk in, automatically dispensed shopping carts.
They already have price scanners in the store you can check your own prices, and radiotag technology that activates inventory control in the need they're running low on an item.
They're already taking automation to the extreme (in our Walmart store carpark they have a filling station that is completely unmanned, just place your ATM/Debit/Credit card in)
It makes you wonder if stores like Walmart won't eventually consume themselves, the more jobs they destroy (including their own, by automation) they're effectively destroying the consumers who are now unemployed and cannot afford to shop there? Seeing as it's a relatively new trend, time will tell.

Should we be afraid of the people and groups that are now categorized the same way ? We conservatives should try to remember where we were at that time.

Growing up in Bed Sty Brooklyn in the 50s/60's never saw anything like that (back of the bus). Knew cops didn't like the blacks - but then again - they didn't like anybody - and were quick to smack ya. Not until the Army and left home did I actually see stuff like this. Hell, I didn't like blacks, or Ricans or etc., but this petty stupid kind of discrimination made no sense to me.

Hondo, you and everyone else should learn about what led to segregation and the Jim Crow laws. During Reconstruction, most Southern states were politically restricted from electing native whites, so that only blacks or carpetbaggers could hold office. As a result, most state and US electees were ex-slaves and thieving northerners bent on plunder. After Reconstruction ended, it was just time for Southerners to reclaim their own rights back from the blacks and carpetbaggers, and the resentment and hatred that had been fostered during Reconstruction was so great that the pendulum swung too far back the other way. The fact is that Jim Crow and segregation were simply natural reactions to egregious policies of Reconstruction which left most Southerners poor and destitute whether they had been Confederates or not.
We reap what we sow, and for too long people have been sowing hatred in this country, and reaping a bountiful crop, but the plowing and planting aren't over yet, and the next harvest is yet to come. Okay, enough prose, back to Komrade Parks; Rosa Parks was indoctrinated at the Highlander Folk School in Monteagle, Tennessee, a school which was started by known Communist Myles Horton for the purpose of spreading socialist/communist propaganda and training agitators and propagandists, like Parks and Kind. See this link: http://www.martinlutherking.org/articles/rosaparks.html and this: http://www.martinlutherking.org/images/commie-school.jpg . She was nothing but a communist operative and thus all her noble acts were nothing more than staged events meant to garner publicity.
And greg, you're such a pathetic little waste of elements, why don't you run along and surf for boy porn like you're so fond of? We still remember your post after your trip to Italy, about all the young boys you had, so run along, you filthy child molester.

Quothe John:
"IM your post seems to suggest that segregation of the races and Jim Crow laws started only after the civil war."
Well, the Jim Crow laws, referring specifically to the anti-black legislation in the post-Reconstruction era, were enacted after the war. Things really weren't that different in the antebellum and postbellum periods, except that slavery had been officially outlawed. Free blacks in the antebellum could own property and get an education, it was only slaves that were forbidden from these things. There were even free blacks who themselves owned slaves. Not so simple as you once thought, is it?
"As for being left poor and desolate after the war: the main wealth of the south was predicated on slave labor."
Not true. Most Southerners did not own slaves, and made their livings the same as anyone in the North, i.e., in agriculture and local industry, such as logging, building, manufacturing, etc. Your simplistic Disney-esque view of the Old South is dead wrong. The fact is that the average Southerner was no less likely to be educated to the high school level than the average Northerner, because of Methodist schools in every almost community. A review of diaries and letters from the war would show that Southerners were as literate as anyone else. Also, the number of colleges in the South per capita was higher than in the North, and many of the most illustrious graduates from West Point were Southerners.
Slavery was almost exclusively an agricultural institution, because of its labor intensive nature and lack of need for an education. Most Southerners were too educated to do agricultural work and were more likely to be found ni jobs requiring skill and training.
Remember at this time in history that about 95% of the labor force of the entire country was employed in agriculture in some form, and the South was not as heavily populated as the North due to the fact that most immigration was into the northern port cities at the time, and especially so in the early days of the nation, when the colonies were struggling to survive. Slavery wasn't as prevalent in the North because the agricultural prospects weren't as good, but Northerners did own slaves too, and before the war, any escaped slaves would be repatriated to their owners North or South. Not as simple as Disney made it out to be, is it?

Let's stop the name calling and let's take a look at the facts about Rosa Parks.
http://www.highlandercenter.org/a-history2.asp
"Martin Luther King, Pete Seeger, Charis Horton, Rosa Parks, & Ralph Abernathy in front of the Highlander Library, Monteagle, TN."
http://www.africanamericans.com/RosaParks.htm
"Parks received a scholarship to attend a workshop on school integration for community leaders. It was held at the Highlander Folk School in Monteagle, Tennessee, and Parks spent several weeks there."
So can we agree that Rosa Parks attended Highlander Folk School?
Next question, what type of school was Highlander Folk School?
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/eleanor/sfeature/fbi_hfs_01.html
"The Highlander Folk School at Monteagle, Tennessee, has earned its bad reputation over a long period of years as a result of its left wing programs, the Communist-front taint of its leadership and the disgraceful conduct of school leaders when called upon by congressional committees to answer justified questions about its operations."
And if you have a bad case of insomnia you can read more about the Highlander Folk School at.
http://foia.fbi.gov/foiaindex/hfschool.htm
I don't think there is any doubt about the type of school Highlander is. Does anyone have information to the contrary? I don't think so.
Now if Rosa Parks had been an ordinary working class person who just had a bad day, was tired and didn't feel like getting up when told to, then she wouldn't be a "communist agitator" as Improbulus Maximus claims she was. She would be what is known as a "useful fool," just ordinary naive person that the communist find useful for the moment and then discard when they are through with them.
But looking at her biography at
http://www.africanamericans.com/RosaParks.htm
we learn that
1) She was educated
"In 1924 she enrolled at the private Montgomery Industrial School for Girls...."
"As a teenager she attended Booker T. Washington Junior High School in Montgomery, and participated in a high school program at State Teachers College (now Alabama State University)."
"In December 1932 she married Raymond Parks, a 29-year-old barber. Rosa Parks received her high school diploma the following year...."
Remember this was a time in America when having a high school diploma was like being a college graduate is today.
2) She was far from being politically naive.
"Parks' husband had long been active in the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP)"
"Parks became increasingly committed to racial justice as she and her husband joined the campaign to save the 'Scottsboro boys'...."
"In 1943, when Rosa Parks actually joined the NAACP, her involvement with the organization became even greater. She worked with the organization's state president, Edgar Daniel Nixon, to mobilize a voter registration drive in Montgomery. That same year, Parks was elected secretary of the Montgomery branch."
So it seems she was quite an activist prior to her bus ride.
I would also to point out that she continued her activism up until her health began to fail her in 2000.
So was she a communist agitator, a useful fool or a saint?

I followed the link in Drifter's message above . . it leads to image of an editorial in a Chattanooga newspaper, circa 1958. We're supposed to believe that anyone associated with Highlander is a "communist"? Note that Eleanor Roosevelt addressed the school. Now that convinced the newspaper that Highlander was a fountain of evil, but it doesn't count as evidence for anyone who has a brain.

Some people strive so hard to find black heroes, that they're willing to accept the new and improved PC variety of history . . . historical revisionism. And it doesn't appear polite to denigrate the dead...or so it would seem. But, I think an accurate history would illuminate Mz. Parks' connection with the communists. There truly are black heroes and heroines, moreover Alan Keyes and Condi Rice ... but, they are unfortunately tagged as oreos, and that's a foul.
I, for one, no longer believe that McCarthyism was such a bad thing...history has proved him more right than wrong in the senate hearings, and subsequent analysis of those who were "named". After the era of glasnost had opened Soviet archives, it further ratified their (Russian) incursions deep into our society. The history of early black activism is replete with communist functionaries, useful fools as they were. From Malcolm X to other socialist ideologues, "by any means necessary" has been their mantra. Sure it bothered many in America to find out that their "heroes and icons" were radicals/leftists, because it revealed just how much influence occurred deep into the unions, the arts, and amidst Hollyweird. And there isn't much tolerance for true intellectual discourse in Hollywood ...not certain there ever was any. You can't stomach the Hollywood dog food unless you're one of their dogs.
It will take time, but as Bobby Dylan said awhile back, "The times, they are a changin". It needs to change faster, a Republican intellectual revivalism amongst the masses. With financial emancipation, many blacks are beginning to realize how they've been duped and used by the Demokratz. ... but too many inner-city poor blacks still think the DNC is their Great Black Hope. If they only realized what "useful fools" they have been, perhaps they'll embrace the party which sponsored their emancipation.

Nigerian Plane Crashes, 116 Aboard, 50+ Survivors
(Lagos, Nigeria) A Bellview Airlines Boeing 737 took off in bad weather from Lagos for the capital Abuja at 7:50pm local time (1450EDT) and quickly
vanished from the radar. The flight carried 110 passengers and six crew members.
Hours later, the wreckage was found near the small community of Kishi, about 400km north of Lagos and on the flight path to Abuja. Military search and rescue teams were dispatched to the crash site. Initial reports indicate that 50 or more people survived the crash.
Notably, the plane carried several senior Nigerian officials and officials of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). No names will be released until the next of kin are notified.
[Update 1500EDT]
Update - NO SURVIVORS
It's now reported that nobody survived. According to Abilola Oloko, spokesman for Oyo state, all the people on board died. Confusion caused earlier inaccurate reports.
From Forbes.com:
No-one could have survived the impact when the Bellview Airlines Boeing 737 hit the ground at such speed that the wreckage was 'completely buried under ground,' NEMA [National Emergency Management Agency] spokesman Ibrahim Farinloye said.
The statement followed a similar report by the Nigerian Red Cross, which was working with NEMA on the ground at the crash site in Lissa village, a short distance north of Lagos near the farming town of Otta.
'No survivors have been identified so far ... The plane is actually beyond recognition,' Abiodun Orebiyi, secretary general of the Nigerian Red Cross, told Agence France-Presse.
The number of people onboard was revised upward to 117, 111 passengers and six crew.

Gunmakers Granted Immunity
(Washington) By a vote of 283 to 144, the U.S. House of Representatives
approved legislation Thursday that gives gun makers and dealers immunity from civil lawsuits. Considered a major victory for the National Rifle Association and its allies, the measure is supported by President Bush who only needs to sign for it to become law since the Senate previously passed it.
The bill will stifle frivolous lawsuits from groups that believe the manufacture and sale of firearms drives violence in communities. The measure excludes from liability protection those that knowingly sell firearms for the commission of crimes. And, although child safety locks will be required under the new law, gun control advocates are displeased and have vowed to challenge the law's constitutionality.
Across the pond, the Brits have weighed in with the opinion that President Bush succeeds only at protecting big business while stumbling through every other effort. I think that Britain needs a Bill of Rights. Maybe then they wouldn't be so quick to criticize what they don't understand.

more wisdom from the "nanny state" that considers banning "king-size" chocolate bars to "protect" the citizens from obesity, and then considers banning long bladed kitchen knives to protect citizens from stab wounds.
Next they'll consider banning baseball bats, want rocks shrinkwrapped and all pointy objects corked. I prefer to take responsibility for my own well being, and safety choices, rather than having legislations restricting my freedom to make bad choices, thanks.

ah, the British have the
sane gun approach, this just in from my home town's newpaper:
A 15-year-old boy who fired an imitation handgun at a teacher in a maths class has been given a four-month detention order.
Youth Court imposed the sentence on Tuesday.
At an earlier hearing, he admitted possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, but he claimed the ball bearing gun went off by accident in his pocket.
Armed police were on standby to attend the incident, at a area school on April 13.
The pellet missed the teacher but hit a pupil on the chest. No one was hurt.
An application for bail pending an appeal against the sentence was refused.
The chairman, Mr Robert Newman, said the boy would serve two months in custody and a further two months under supervision in the community.
Hysteria, at even imitation guns, which are all sold with bright orange ends, by law.

just in case that seemed somewhat sane: different article, this weeks paper:
A three-minute film showing attacks on children at a school is being circulated.
The assaults were recorded on mobile telephone video cameras.
They have been edited into a film, to which titles and a musical backing have been added.
Bullies punch, slap and kick their victims in the film.
Most assaults happen in the playground while other, more minor, ones take place in classrooms or corridors.
By far the worse footage seen by the Advertiser is an attack on Liam Hopkinson (14) who is knocked to the ground by a single punch to the face as he passes another boy.
In a further case, a boy is also punched in the face, apparently causing blood to splatter from his nose.
Mr Evans (Headmaster) said he became aware of the footage at the end of last term. Those responsible had beendisciplined and the assaults had stopped, he said.
Mr Evans said: "It was made clear to the older students if there was any such repeat there would be permanent exclusions and this has cured the problem.
Police chief, Inspector Jerry Butler, described the images as gratuitous, voyeuristic violence.

Thank God for this legislation, but no one should expect the anti-gun crowd to give up. They will just look for another angle, so we must forever be vigilent. Join the NRA today. Just do it! Now, while you are thinking about it. Even if you are from Britain, perhaps sanity will return or maybe you will be the one to start the reforms necessary in Britain for gun rights and self defense to be reestablished. Never, ever give up!

another topic im torn on....yes, American citizens should have the right to arm themselves, but within limits....i mean, you hear all the time about police raiding some nuts home and finding in the basement 50 handguns, 50 shotguns and rifles, machine guns, hand grenades, mines...thats a bit tooooooooo much....and some of the bullets that are manufactured....the cop killers...anyone producing them should be held laible if they are used to kill a police officer as that is their only purpose....are there limits to how many guns you can legally own???

No offense Thanos, but you should get un-torn on the issue pretty quick. It's the "limits" that end up becoming restrictions upon the right to own firearms.
Like when they decided the "limit" of how many bullets could be in a clip
or the feature "limit" on a weapon like the "Assault Weapon" ban.
Wow! an "Assault Weapon" ban eh? that must be a good thing? problem was it did not ban any functionality of a weapon, only the cosmetic features ex: pistol grip, threaded barrel, collapsible stock, bayonet fitting etc.
There already are restriction in place, on automatic weapons, explosives, flash suppressors, suppressors, therefore unless you are licensed to have the above you're breaking the law. The Teflon tipped rounds you refer to as cop killers are already illegal to possess I believe already.
There should be no limit to the amount of weapons you can possess unless you're a felon, just because I have fifty guns, does that make me a collector? or a criminal? why should their be limits if I legally own all of the weapons I possess?
Note this ban does not exempt gun manufacturers who flaunt the law, this means if you make a weapon with a fingerprint proof finish, or one that requires a minor modification to make it an automatic, which are features attractive to criminals they can still be sued.

Thanos, why are 50 guns too much for one person to own, and who are you to decide that? You know what, you say too much and you go to church too much, so there ought to be a law restricting what you can say and your manner of worship. Also, you don't need more than one car, or more than 100 square feet of house per family member. And who needs more than one pair of pants, or shoes? Why do you need a garage your bourgeois pig? Can't you park on the street like the people? Are you so much better that you actually need a car? Can't you take the bus like a good communist? You know more people are killed in auto accidents every year than by all gunshots, accidental and deliberate, combined, so your car should be taken away.
See how once you've stepped on that slippery slope of irrational liberal hysteria you can't stop? Now go buy a gun dammit, like a good American.

I have a 12 GU shotgun for pheasant and chucker hunting. I have it locked up and only use it a couple of times a year.
I have thought about getting a handgun for protection but have 3 kids around the house. How can you keep the thing handy and keep it away from your kids? Going to a gun safe when itÂ’s needed just doesnÂ’t seem practical. Leaving it outside a safe is just too scary for me. ThatÂ’s just the way I feel.
The regulars who post here and own guns are not a problem for our society. Who knows how much more crime we would have if the libs were successful in their goal of gun control? The fact that much of America is armed and ready is a deterrent to crime and a good thing for our society. Gun owing property owners in this country are probably the best law enforcement value the American tax payers have. It costs nothing and is effective.
Have as many guns as you want. Put a sign up in your front yard that says “ There is nothing in here worth dying for”.

IM, im not against American citizens owning a gun, not at all, but come one man....think on this thing clearly....ive read so many articles on people who had stand off's with police and SWAT teams that had virtual arsenals in their homes....i mean, WTF does anyone need a freakin .50 caliber manchine gun for???....you gonna go shoot some elephants with that thing???...rifles, shotgun, handgun i see now problems with....my father was a police officer for 36 years and i have been exposed to many of the different guns he used but i just dont understand people who feel that they GOTTA have dozens upon dozens of weapons,"just in case"....whats next????....oh shit dude i just GOTTA have my own personal tactical nuclear missle!!!...i know that may seem farfetched but it seems the way of things in the US...ive got better things to spend my hard earned money on, like food , clothes and the roof over my familys head than blowing it on a vitual arsenal in my garage....like i said, i have no problem with you, myself or the guy next door having a few guns in the house but really how many do you really GOTTA have???...thats why i asked the question if there is a legal limit of guns any citizen of the US can own and what weapons are we legally allowed to own???....i truly would like to know....as for youre comment{ i think it was you} about myself getting a gun, i am thinking on looking into getting one for home defense as i live in an area of NJ were the black bear population is a bit thick and i have had some bears raid my garbage....well you can imagine my worries of one of them attempting to enter my home and not having something to protect myself and family with...any good advice on what would be best for home defense in such a situation???

Let me get this straight, because you don't want to own certain guns means that others shouldn't? Well, I drive the speed limit, and I think that all sports cars should be banned, and that all cars should be electronically governered to do no more than 70 mph, and also that nobody should be able to own more than one car, and that they should have to prove their need to own a car, and should have to be fingerprinted and have a background check before they buy one, and that the authorities should be able to confiscate it at any time "for the public good". How do you like that plan? Not very well, I bet. More people,
far more> people, are killed by cars than guns every year.
Do you know how many crimes have been committed with .50 caliber sniper rifles or any legally owned machinegun or even "assault rifle" in the last fifty years in America. I can give you a hint, you can count them without taking your shoes off. In fact, as a law abiding citizen, you are far more likely to be shot by a cop than to be shot by a legally owned gun of any type. The real problem, the only> problem, lies in the fact that liberals have degraded the justice system to the point that criminals no longer have any fear of punishment for their crimes. It's a simple problem to remedy really; murder = death penalty, and any gun crime not causing death = life in prison without possibility of parole. Rape or child molestation = castration + life imprisonment without possibility of parole.
As to the last bit, the best gun for home defense is a good 12 ga. pump, such as the excellent and practical Mossberg 500, which can usually be found in pawn shops for under $200.00. I have one with a pistol grip and 18.5" barrel which stands in a corner near the front door. You can also get something like a Browning A5 cheap, it's semi-auto but in the Soviet Socialist Republik of Neuvo Jazeerastan, you may not be able to get one.

No, I don't hear all the time about these police raids - the last episode even close was Waco. Ruby Ridge is close but no cigar. Aside from the fact that machine guns, hand grendades and mines are not legally available (though a few lucky ones with a class III permit can have full autos and silencers), people can only use a couple of guns at a time, whether they own 10 or 100 because they only have two hands. In fact, land mines are not even available to the US military during war (I don't think its a Geneva convention rule, but I think they were outlawed in the early 90's??). Phony stories like your fantasy gun nut seem common because they usually start out with some basis in fact, but end up as an urban myth after many retellings. But if you really do hear about these incidents on a routine basis, you should have no problem citing at least 3 examples from the past year where the police raid somebody here in the US and find lots of grenades, mines and machine guns. And please use the correct terms; it is a fully automatic gun, not a machine-gun. The average anti-gun nut is either uninformed or misinformed about guns, yet will not hesitate to think that high-tech optics, sleek composite stocks, 'military-style' rifles and even old AK-47's are 'machine guns' because they're so darn scary-looking. Hey, if it looks kinda/sorta like the machine gun Stallone used in that one movie, then it must be a machine gun and must be banned now! Stylistic similarities imply functional similarities, but thankfully laws are based on somthing more substantial than image and feeling. The 'cop killer' bullets you mentioned were not sold as such, and weren't even used as such, unless you think that cops never got killed by gunfire on the job until these bullets were available. They are teflon coated, and might penetrate police standard body armor, depending on the caliber of gun and range to target. It's hardly the magic bullet that the media assured us criminals would immediately use to kill cops at leisure. And exactly how many cops were killed with teflon-coated bullets which went through their body armor? Names, please. I agree that practical uses for armor-piercing rounds are almost nonexistent for civilians, but that does not mean that they should be outlawed.
As far as bears: If the bears are raiding your garbage, and you don't want them in your home, then don't keep garbage in your home! No, really...I have heard stories of bears getting into homes and cleaning out the fridges and freezers, but those are usually problem bears that have to be relocated or killed. If or when you get over your fear or distaste of guns, get a simple double-barrel 12 guage and a selection of shells to have available. To scare the bear out of your yard, have some rubber shot or its equivalent for a deterrent round - I've heard that rock salt was pretty effective. If it gets closer, have some bird shot handy or pepper spray. If that doesn't work, load up the slugs and dial 911. But you should really focus on keeping the bear from getting into your house in the first place. If your first thought about bear control is what gun to use when it gets into your house, you should probably move.

This is why I think responsible people should be able to own what ever they want. How do you think people would stand up against the ARMY if they had to with out the same kinds of weapons??
I live in in desert of Nevada and I like to shoot! I love to shoot all kinds of guns, semi, full auto, and all calibers. And for fun, I think you should be able to get a RECREATIONAL PERMIT for explosives. I loved to blow up stuff when I was a kid and still do. Hariri Killing Called Terrorist Act
Released yesterday, the UN
report of the assassination of Lebanese former Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri indicates that it was a terrorist act planned by high-ranking Syrian and Lebanese intelligence officers. Frankly, the report only voiced what everyone knew or strongly suspected. Hariri and 15 others died when a six-car convoy was bombed in downtown Beirut. It wasn't an accident nor a suicide.
Chief UN investigator Detlev Mehlis identified several Syrian and Lebanese suspects;
Syrian Major General Asef Shawkat,
Syrian Lt. General Rustom Ghazali,
Syrian former Presidential Aide Farouq Al-Sahraa,
Lebanese Major General Jamil al-Sayyed,
Lebanese Brigadier General Mustapha Hamdan, and
Lebanese Major General Ali Hajj.
Each of the suspects has a history of high-level political and military nefariousness. And, one particularly damning entry in the report, Brigadier General Hamdan accused Hariri of being pro-Israel and is quoted as
stating, "We are going to send him on a trip -- bye, bye Hariri." Belligerent?
I'd say.
In response, Syrian Information Minister Mehdi Dakhlallah stated that the UN report was "politicized," "false," and "far from professional." Damascas is obviously embarrassed and expects the investigation results will lead to increased international pressure on Syrian President Bashar Al Assad to cooperate with the inquiry, to quit helping Palestinian terrorists, and to stop supporting instability in Lebanon and Iraq.
Four pro-Syrian security chiefs in Lebanon have been arrested and charged with murder on the recommendation of UN investigator Detlev Mehlis. Already, an anti-Syrian member of the Lebanese Parliament, Jibran Tueini, has called for President Emile Lahoud to step down.

I bet Syria, and Lebanon officials are staying awake at night, knowing that the United "toothless" Nations are about to exercise their gums on them?
Will they issue a strongly worded letter?, another useless sanction? or a scathing speech in the U.N?
I'm sure the response will be "strong" enough, to make them consider blowing up anyone who they label an enemy, and just chance another useless U.N finding.

I think Bush is going to keep pretending that Iran, Syria, China, Pakistan, et al, don't even exist as long as he's in office, and he's leaving them for the next poor bastard. Maybe he's doing so because he thinks Hitlery will win in '08, and he doesn't want her to have it too easy. Sometimes politics is the practice of taking the worst course of action so that your enemy won't be able to benefit from the good that you might have done otherwise.

Baltimore's McHenry and Harbor Tunnels Closed
A terrorist threat against tunnels along I-95 has prompted closing of said tunnels. Developing....
ABCNEWS:
Information about a potential attack, ABC News has learned, came from a previously reliable source two or three days ago. The city of Baltimore is in the process of taking some additional security precautions, while the federal government is analyzing the credibility of the threat.
We'll see, the terrorists like to spread threats. Threats are effective as a tool to upset the population. That is after you actually blow stuff up. Better safe than sorry eh.. In fact I'm so shaken I'm going to go eat and fill up my car or is that just Dave's lunch doing me that way.

Goering, for those unfamiliar with history, was the commander in chief of the Luftwaffe in Nazi Germany during WWII. He said:
"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country that determine policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."
Hermann Goering

"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such a time as the State can shield people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State."

Goering is a bad analogy to apply here.
"All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked,..." We WERE attacked. Several times. It can only be ignored for so long. And Dave's right - damned if you do, damned if you don't. Some people are just never happy. It's easy to pretend as we did for decades. And Goebbles as well -
"It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent,..." No repression going on. As a matter of fact, the dissent is the loudest voice you hear. The state doesn't own the papers as they did in Germany and as they still do in so many other countries.
Why people keep comparing us to pre-war Germany is beyond me. You see parallels. I see dumb people.

I like the way Oyster dissects the quote down to just a fragment of a sentence to twist the point.

Nazi Rally Turns Violent
(Toledo, Ohio) Before the start of a
planned neo-Nazi rally in north Toledo, racial tension caused
rioting to break out with baseball-sized rocks being thrown at police and vehicles being vandalized. According to Police Chief Mike Navarre, six people have been arrested. The march by the white supremacist group was canceled and over 100 police officers flooded the neighborhoods.
Live coverage on FoxNews shows some houses being looted with one building on fire. The live video from WJBK-TV shows the streets now crowded with police officers. The situation has calmed and the fire department has arrived to extinguish the fire in what is thought to be a tavern.
Police Chief Navarre stated that he believes that all the Nazis have now left the city.
So, in summary, the white supremacists organize a march to ostensibly protest black criminal gangs and the black community responds by rioting, looting, and setting at least one building on fire -- in their own neighborhood. The logic escapes me.
[Update 2030 EDT, 10/15/05]
Toledo Mayor Jack Ford declared a state of emergency and instituted a citywide curfew starting at 8PM tonight, tomorrow, and possibly Monday.
From ToledoBlade.com:
Mr. Ford said those protesting were mainly male gang members in their 20s. He said the protests were not triggered by race relations but by gang members with grievances.
"We went to talk to them. Most of them were gang members (picture) in full colors," the mayor said. "Their anger was based on some long-standing things but also that we had allowed the [Nazi] walk to occur in the first place."
Police Chief Navarre said several dozen people were arrested and a few officers and firefighters were injured, none serious. In total, a mob of 500 were involved in the rioting and looting. Although the streets quieted down by late afternoon, there is concern that violence may erupt in the darkness.
Interestingly, local media coverage of the rioting was prevented by the mobs attacking and disabling the mobile news vehicles first. Scheduled celebrations for Start High School Homecoming and Central Catholic High School Homecoming were canceled.

The black thugs who took part in this criminal behavior just used a legal(if disgusting) march as an excuse to go on a rampage. It's a good thing for them that they didn't try this shit here in my neighborhood. We are armed and can legally shoot someone who invades or attempts to invade our premises.

What I don't understand is why everyone is so hung up on the race issue? If all sides could stop and really think for a second, they'd see that they have something in common. They're both poor and have little to no education. Silly rabbit, tricks are for the rich. ItÂ’s not about black or white, itÂ’s about rich and poor. ItÂ’s about how the middle class is being destroyed through outsourcing and illegal immigration. And itÂ’s not about the illegal immigrants coming to AmeriKa but the rich people who employ them. They wouldnÂ’t come if they couldnÂ’t work? WhoÂ’s employing them? But wait thereÂ’s more.....If you kicked the millions out, whoÂ’d work the fields? WhoÂ’d build all the houses? WhoÂ’d wash all the dishes at your favorite restaurant? Well letÂ’s make them legal....oh but then youÂ’d have to pay them at least minimum wage ($6 - you could buy two gallons of gas and a dvd player at Wal-Mart with that). We canÂ’t pay people $6 dollars an hour. ThatÂ’s way too much. Ignore now, pay later.
How many millions of dollars does Jessica Simpson need? How many thousand dollar carriers does she need for her dog? Why are people paying money for Britney Spears albums? It’s not like you can look at her while you listen to her cd. How much should Roger Clemens or Tiger Woods get for playing sports. How many houses do they need? How many mansions in Beverly Hills or the suburbs of D.C. go practically unfilled every night while hurricane survivors sleep on cots in shelters. How much does Wal-Mart need to make for it’s stakeholders at the expense of small business owners (aka middle class)? Sure we get a great deal on stuff we really don’t need, but at the cost of some kid in china slaving away at your $2 dvd player for .0000002 cents an hour. Why do we let politicians spend our tax money on projects that we know we don’t need (we know the money goes in to somebody’s pocket for payback)? Why, when this is repeated on cable news do we just ignore it and say “that’s the government for ya, chuckle chuckle chuckle? How is it that we can fly into space, genetically modify the foods we eat, build super computers, yet we can’t make a solar powered car? Ignore now, pay later.
Our society lives with the credit card mentality. Buy now, pay later = ignore societies problems now, pay for them later. Well here we are Amerika......and the creditor is at the door. Hey I have a great reality show idea. Why donÂ’t we film our collapse and show it on TV right after Survivor. We could call it Opps.
Before everyone gets their panties in a bunch, I just want to say that they (the neo nazis and the gangs) have free will and they‘ve made their choices. We are all blessed with the ability to choose our responses (responsibility). That’s the great thing about life...choice. We just need to make it easier for them to make better choices. We all need to make better choices and help each other. God, I sound like a fracin hippie.
Wake up....pass it on!!!

The Neo-Nazis were from West Virginia. They came to Toledo to supposedly help the whites "take back the streets" from the black gangs that had taken over.
According to a reporter on the scene, the Nazis were gone by the time the gangs went destruction and looting crazy and they also reported that the "protesters" were throwing rocks at the police not the Nazis.
The whole thing was insane.

The Nazis went there specifically to incite a riot. It was a planned, deliberate provocation, and the Nazis consider it a great success. Just check out some of the posts on Bill White's Overthrow.com and the National Socialist Movement's internet radio podcast at http://www.nsm88radio.com/. They're not even trying to hide how happy they are.

In other words, anonymous, the blacks fell right into the Nazi's hands and did just what the Nazis wanted them to do. And made the Nazis happy. Why wouldn't the blacks just restrain themselves this ONE time and make the Nazis unsuccessful? What is so difficult about that? Since you should know the Nazis have the right to march, why not just go do something else? Watch TV, play on your playstation, take a kid to the park, go play basketball, do anything but loot, burn, and destroy. I tell you, from where I sat watching the spectacle, the Nazis came off looking better than the blacks. And that's a real shame.

You're all missing the point that it isn't about what the nazis did, which was basically nothing, but about what the blacks did, which was what blacks always do when presented with the excuse and opportunity, and unimpeded by external restraint. Did the nazis riot? No. Did they hurt anyone? No. They did nothing illegal, and were entirely within their rights to have a march.
This hypocritical double standard of damning one group and excusing another is pure BS. The simple fact is that it could have just as easily been an NBA championship win or a St. Swithun's Day parade, it makes no difference, the blacks would have rioted anyway.

No, they didn't fall into those nazis hands anymore than the blacks in Orleans fell into katrinas hands. This was about criminality and the ARA is a group that loves to incite violence whenever and whereever they can using the excuse they're anti-racist. They made it habit to attack anyone who happens to be cleaner than they are those smelly drug using retards. A friend of mine found out about the ARA the hard way in York, PA a few years ago when he bumbled into a riot zone caused by those animals. Appearently a nazi group had a meeting there and those animals pelted whites in trucks. Just so happens my friend was a painter going for supplies when the crap hit the fan. His windshield had been smashed by the ARAs rent a mob mentality. Needless to say, since these are just borderline deralicts who have nothing of value suing them wouldn't do anything after all who wants shit encrusted underwear and ripped jeans which is about the only thing they have of value. It wasn't the Neo-nazis i'm affraid but the long proud tradition of the ARA to use any excuse to incite violence and anarchy under the geise of anti-racism. I don't buy it that the nazis did this we're told repeadly these people can't lead ants to a picnic but the ARA does have funding from NGOs to rent mobs of bums to whip up insurrections.

Of course then, everyone would be above the poverty level, and we'd have to kill them too. You goddamn liberal idiots are so stupid you all need taken out and shot.

Woman Cuts Up Pregnant Neighbor for Unborn Baby
(Ford City, Pennsylvania) This is not a typical criminal case. The perpetrator, described as calm and amiable, is a stay-at-home mother with children aged 11, 14, and 16.
From Post-Gazette.com:
An Armstrong County woman who told friends and family she was expecting a child was charged yesterday with beating her pregnant neighbor over the head with a baseball bat, driving her to a remote rural road and attempting to cut the woman's baby out of her abdomen. The attack was thwarted by a boy on an all-terrain vehicle and police took the suspect into custody.
The victim, identified as Valerie Oskin, 30, of Ford City, was flown by helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital and was in critical condition yesterday. Doctors delivered her baby by emergency Caesarean section and the baby was healthy, officials said.
Confronted with evidence by investigators, the suspect, Peggy Jo Conner, 38, made a statement to state police that confirmed their suspicions.
Conner is in the Armstrong County Jail and faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, and aggravated assault on an unborn child. According to police, Conner abducted and took Oskin to a remote area where she waited several hours for her to die so she could take the baby. At some point, Conner slit open Oskin's belly with a razor knife and, not long after, a local teenager tooling around on his ATV saw what was happening and reported it to his father who alerted the police. Armstrong County District Attorney Scott Andreassi remarked,
"I don't think there was any question that her goal was to get that child out of there. If this kid had not come on the scene, she would have finished the job."
This case is strange and unusual, but not unheard of. Just a few months ago, something similar
happened in the midwest. Why women would want to slice and dice pregnant neighbors and strangers is
beyond me. Only one thing seems certain, though, somewhere there is a political psychologist conjuring up an alphabetized syndrome or disorder that lays the blame squarely on President Bush.

Pakistan Quake Tolls More Than 18,000 Dead
(Islamabad, Pakistan) According to officials, it's estimated that more than 18,300 people have died as a result of Saturday's earthquake. Communications have been cut off and landslides have made roads impassable. Current need is for helicopter transportation to carry relief supplies to remote areas.
From CNN.com:
"In certain areas, the entire villages -- they have collapsed. In certain areas, almost entire towns, they have vanished from the scene," Pakistan's military spokesman, Maj. Gen. Shaukat Sultan, told CNN. The country, he said, has launched its largest relief operation.
He estimated at least 18,000 people have died in Pakistan alone, and 41,000 are injured. The majority of those deaths are thought to have occurred in Pakistani-controlled Kashmir. Another military spokesman, Brig. Shah Jahan, said relief and rescue workers have yet to access 30 to 40 percent of the affected areas.
CNN can confirm more than 10,000 deaths in Pakistan, most in Pakistani-controlled Kashmir. The dead include 230 Pakistani soldiers and 250 school girls whose bodies were recovered from a school at Gari Habi Ullaha between Manshera and Muzaffarabad.
Eyewitnesses report the city of Balakot, in the North-West Frontier province, is destroyed. "It is likely the ground zero," Sultan told CNN.
Also, 250 students died when a school building collapsed 40 miles from Islamabad and the collapse of three school buildings in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir killed an estimated 200 more students. Only one person has been reported killed in Afghanistan, a young girl who died when her house in Jalalabad collapsed.
From Aljazeera.net:
The estimated toll of the South Asian earthquake on Saturday has hit 30,000, Pakistan-administered Kashmir's works and communication minister says.
"Our rough estimates say more than 30,000 people have died in the earthquake in Kashmir," minister Tariq Farooq said on Sunday.
"There are cities, there are towns which have been completely destroyed. Muzaffarabad is devastated," he added, referring to the capital of Pakistan's sector of disputed Kashmir.
Within 24 hours of the earthquake, the U.S. Geological Survey recorded 22 aftershocks, including one that measured 6.2 on the Richter Scale. An eight-man UN Disaster Coordination team is due to arrive in Islamabad today.
According to a CNN cable broadcast and Xinhua, rescue teams from the UK, Germany, Italy, France, Switzerland, Russia, and the U.S. are due to arrive in hours. Medical relief centers have been set up by the Pakistan military. Confirmed dead in Indian-controlled Kashmir is 355. Frantic efforts are underway to rescue people out of collapsed apartment buildings in Islamabad.

I spoke to someone in Islamabad yesterday, and he said the damage was extensive. He told me of a 10-story apartment building near where he lives completely flattened. So yes, it's pretty bad out there.
Until this happened I wasn't even aware that this was an earthquake-prone area.

Muzaffarabad is located about 10km SW of the epicenter and, as your post notes, they are describing it as devastated. It had a popoulation of about 78,000. My guess is the death toll will be much worse than a mere 30,000.
Prayers and lots of help will be needed.

Major Earthquake in Kashmir
(Islamabad, Pakistan) A massive earthquake, 7.6 on the Richter Scale, struck Kashmir around midnight EDT and was felt across Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India. The center is reported at approximately 50 miles northeast of Islamabad (
map).
From the BBC:
Maj Gen Shaukat Sultan, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf's spokesman, said: "Casualties will be high... they could be well over 1,000."
Interior Minister Aftab Sherpao told local television: "We have reports that several entire villages have been wiped out."
Details are unavailable since telephone networks are damaged and mobile systems are overwhelmed. Scores of people are feared trapped or killed in buildings reduced to rubble.
From HindustanTimes.com:
The quake killed at least 10 people in Jammu and Kashmir and 40 in Pakistan, initial reports said. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh quickly moved out of a building in Chandigarh where he was meeting Congress chief ministers.
Another report said that Jammu and Kashmir bore the brunt where over 30 people, including 15 army personnel, were killed, hundreds injured and more than 400 houses flattened.
[ ... ]
A 10-storey apartment building in Islamabad collapsed like a pack of cards, entombing several sleeping people. In the F-10 sector of Islamabad, a portion of the building known as Margallah Towers collapsed. Most victims were still asleep. In the Valley, Uri market was completely flattened due to the quake and Uri-Rampur Highway blocked due to landslides.
The quake is described as "major" and occurred at 09:20:38 India Time at a depth of 10 kilometers.
According to Mohammad Hanif of the Pakistan Meteorological Department, "We can say that it was one of the strongest earthquakes (ever) felt in Islamabad."

Dave and JJ: There are some members of the Phelps family who have run for their lives. The mom and dad had like 10 or twelve kids and a few of them were actually born with brains. There are always cracks in any foundation.

NYC Subway Terror Alert
ABCNEWS:According to sources in intelligence, emergency services and police headquarters, when three Iraqi insurgents were arrested several days ago during a raid by a joint FBI-CIA team, one of those caught disclosed the threat. .
This is a breaking story. While there is a lot of doubt precautions are being taken.
Department of Homeland Security sources told ABC News they are very doubtful the threat information is credible, though NYPD sources said the information continues to come in and is disturbing.
Also FOXNEWS:
Confederate Yankee has live coverage of the breaking news. Also GOP & The City , Counterterrorism blog, Terrorism Unveiled live-blogging. Chad at ITB following.
Updated: It now appears the same intelligence that led to the NYC subway alert today also resulted in a raid South of Baghdad.
CNN:The highly classified operation involving the U.S. intelligence community and the U.S. military was carried out against suspected al Qaeda operatives south of Baghdad, CNN has learned from a well-placed U.S. military official. "Significant intelligence was also gathered in this raid, along with al Qaeda operatives who were rounded up," CNN's Jamie McIntyre reported... ...But the official said the raid was the result of the same intelligence about the threat to New York's subway system.
To this story, there will be more.

Filthy rode subway this morning and did not see one cop till I got out of the station on 42nd. NYPD is a joke. Last group of cops I saw in the subway were not watching the crowd but talking to eachother and laughing.
The NYPD is not preventative, they are reactive. All they need is a mop and bucket to complete their usefullness. Fat, sloppy, slow & Stupid is what I see clustered together jabbering away in Penn Station. These jackasses are not going to stop anything. All they can do is pick up your arm after it has been blown off.
This is reality. I see this so called "elite" force everyday. I have more faith in the riders being able to prevent an attack then the NYPD.

It's almost comical the reaction to this warning, when people claim that the warning coincides with Bush's message and that it is used as a "scare tactic" that pushes a constant state of fear.
however the people that are saying the threats are hype are the same ones that would be asking:
"What did Bush know? Why did the Government ignore this threat?
before an inquiry the first time a threat became a terrorist incident, and try and hold the Government responsible for inaction on terrorism intelligence.

Filthy: All the cops are at Penn station with their dogs having their pictures taken so their kids can see them on tomorrows news.

Tour Boat Sinks in Lake George, 19 Die
(Lake George, New York) Dozens of senior citizens were onboard a 40-foot Shoreline Cruises tour boat when it flipped over on Lake George, about 50 miles north of Albany. The
weather was clear, with the temperature in the 70s. Eyewitnesses say the glass-enclosed boat sank.
From PostStar.com:
Nineteen people were killed in a tour boat accident on Lake George today, according to Warren County Sheriff Larry Cleveland.
The Ethan Allen, a small cruise boat on the lake, was carrying 47 passengers this afternoon when the accident happened about 3 p.m. today.
According to Cleveland, the wake from the Mohican, a boat owned by Lake George Steamboat Company, swamped and flipped the glass-enclosed Ethan Allen.
The Glens Falls hospital declared a Code Yellow disaster alert to handle the injured. As of 5pm EDT, all passengers had been accounted for.
[Update 2030EDT]
Twenty-one people are now listed as having died when the Ethan Allen sank in approximately 70 feet of water. The only crew member onboard, Captain Richard Paris, survived. The estimated number of passengers was increased to 49 and it's reported that none pulled from the water were wearing life vests. Also, since those onboard were senior citizens, a number were in wheelchairs or required walkers.
The incident occurred about 200 yards from shore. An unconfirmed report states that it capsized after it hit the wake of a larger cruise boat. In my opinion, before this tragedy is history, some serious liability will be assigned for negligence or malfeasance.

The
Times Union of Albany has more. Apparently the death toll is now 21 and the police are looking at whether the wake from another boat may have contributed to the boat sinking/capsizing.

47 passengers and a crew on a 40' boat. A lot depends on the with of the boat and what is above the water line. I have a 35' and 13.5 ft wide. I would never allow more than 15 on board and all weight is below waterline.
It was said that many of these people were in wheel chairs. I seen a picture the boat. It had a solid top about 8' above the deck.
Scenario: Another boat causes wake to strike side of boat. This causes boat to lean sharply to opposite side. Old folks slide or fall to opposite side. Solid top on boat leans to opposite side. Captain turns wheel to opposite side as he holds on. Side of boat takes in water and its all she wrote.
I seen this exact thing happen at the mouth of the Mississippi river two years ago. The boat was a 26' with 6 on board and a heavy t-top. All it takes is a large wake striking at the right angle.
50 people spaced properly on a 40' boat is okay. 50 people on one side of the boat is sucide. A shame.

A caller to a Syracuse radio show today said that he had served on a jury some years ago to hear a suit from an elderly man who had slipped and broken his hip on an Alexandria Bay area (St. Lawrence Seaway/Thousand Islands region) tour boat.
The attorney for the the defendant cited an 1898 New York State law that capped liability at
the value of the tour boat. That means that the families of the Lake George victims might only be entitled to the same, probably only $150 grand or so, at most, if the law applies in this case.
