Submission minded peoples are bound to be governed either by fascism ( Baath ) or fundamentalism. They still belong to the old ages of SUBJUGATION and thatÂ’s what Islam is all about : THE WILL TO SUBJUGATE, the worst scourge that keeps haunting the humanity since the very beginnings. Believing that Islam is just a religion like many others is a lethal misjudgment. Human societies of all kinds have thrived millennia upon slavery in a world where oppression was the norm, while LIBERTY is the antithesis devised Â— at last Â— by the human spirit for escaping SUBJUGATION. LIBERTY is very Â‘recentÂ’ in human history. ItÂ’s enough to have a look at todayÂ’s world Â— 215 years Â‘onlyÂ’ since when the First Amendment was established Â— to understand that LIBERTY is still tottering and very frail. For the Â‘true believersÂ’ the world is divided into two sides: Dar El Islam (the house of the believers) and Dar El Kufr (the house of the infidels). The FIRST duty of a believer is to conquer the land of the infidels and submit them. Submission comes in three choices: 1st is conversion, 2nd is dhimmitude, 3rd is being decapitated. 5 The bottom line is that Liberalism 2.x isn't really capable of destroying Totalitarianism 3.x, no matter how many feel-good manifestos we write and sign. But it's not that easy to explain what I mean. Andre Amalrik, who wrote Notes of a Revolutionary and Will the Soviet Union Survive Until 1984?, and who was one of the original founders of the Helsinki Accords (and spent years in Soviet gulags) once remarked that Totalitarian propaganda and Madison Avenue advertising were both forms of cultural prostitution. They were both morally degenerate and equivalent. Our Liberalism is naive, which makes it fairly easy to disrupt... and we're fortunate that our enemies are so stupid and inept that they haven't been able to fully exploit these weaknesses. But I don't think the threat will diminish until our fitness has been vastly improved, and much of our naivete' transformed. But you know... if I'm wrong we'll throw a party.

10 1990-91: I supported pushing Saddam's troops out of Quwait, was not squemish about the "highway of death" but was torn on the decision to not push on to Baghdad as there would likely have been huge civilian casualties. 1995: I grudgingly conceded that US combat in Bosnia to protect the muslims was probably the right and moral thing to do. 2001: I was for hunting down the terrorist where ever they were, whatever or whoever they were hiding behind. 12 I have to say this is your own fault. Particulary the UK. Muslims were monecodled as they came with other asians, but you have to understand that those ones who integrated in the early days of immigration were not muslims, but Sikhs & hindus & some christians who were from india. The later influx largely from Pakistan bangladesh were Muslim, but the west just saw all browns as the same, and even once distinguished, you have to understand that we in the east kept muslims in line through violence as that is the only language they understand. Not to attack them but to defend, to stop them imposing their views on the rest of the society. To me out of al the religions in the world they are the least closest to god.

A delegation of bishops and religious men from the Danish Lutheran Church made contacts in Egypt following the worldwide uproar against the offending cartoons of Prophet Mohammed published in a Danish newspaper....
Steen Skovsgaard, a bishop in the delegation, told Zaman that the cartoons are entirely for provocation. Skovsgard, stressing Muslims and Christians live together in peace, said Danes separated after the events and the majority disapproved the cartoons. He said the freedom of speech did not include humiliation and insult and Muslims can seek remedy through the courts as Denmark is a state of law. Skovsgard, underlining that the crisis is the beginning of a new dialogue rather than a partition, said their tickets were bought by the Danish Foreign Ministry though it was not an official visit.

Scandinavians Condemn Death Fatwa as "un-Islamic"

Islam means submission, not peace. To the Islamist, to kill someone for breaking Islamic law is not murder, it is carrying out the death penalty. So, it's always great to see that Christians and atheists seem to know Islam better than Muslims who have been practicing the tradition of imposing the death penalty on blasphemers and apostates since Muhammed's time.

The statement he makes makes sure we do not alienate the billion plus Muslims, and strategic islamic Governments. 11 I believe Bush gets it too but I would define response as self-conscious of how he'll be portrayed by many in the media. Its a hard game of manoeuvering in which he's unable to truly relax. He ends up compromising when it should be strait, right from the gut, on this and many other issues. Still, this is a politically delicate situation nobody would have expected. They were published 5 months ago... who could have imagined massive and violent no-life insanity. 12 Speaking of Bush, I must now question his judgment, if not his integrity, because of this whole deal about turning management of the ports over to an arab company. What the hell is he thinking? Danish Muslims to Accept Partial Responsibilty for Conflict

he spokesman for the Danish Moslem group, 28-year-old Ahmed Akkari who claims to represent 27 Moslem organizations tells Jyllands-Posten that he is ready to accept "a third of the blame" for the escalating conflict if Jyllands-Posten and the Danish Government accepts that the rest is theirs. Ahmed Akkari explains that this is an attempt to get into a dialogue.
"With this concrete action we are attempting to show that we bear part of the blame in order to achieve resolution to this crisis. We want to show that we arenÂ’t running. In fact, we have been trying to do that for the last two weeks," says Ahmed Akkari.

Danish Editor Put on Leave for Iranian Holocaust Cartoon Controversy

This is certainly interesting. Notice that he was 'sent' on leave.

BBC:

The Danish editor who commissioned the Prophet Muhammad cartoons at the centre of a global row has been sent on leave.
Flemming Rose, culture editor of the Jyllands-Posten newspaper, got the order after saying he might print Iranian cartoons of the Holocaust.
The Danish cartoons, seen by many Muslims as insulting to their faith, have sparked worldwide protests.
Earlier this week, an Iranian newspaper said it was holding a contest inviting cartoonists to depict the Holocaust.
Hamshahri said it wanted to test the boundaries of free speech, echoing the reasons Jyllands-Posten and other European papers have given for publishing the caricatures.

1 In my own research on the Holocaust, I've come across two things that are problematical. Why have revisionist historians, scientists and publishers been murdered, assaulted, had acid thrown in their face, and been imprisoned? This seems like Dark Ages stuff. 3 Guys, why keep wringing hands over the craven network news and the print msm? If the collective lot hadn't fallen in love with themselves then sold their souls for profits and appeasement, there never would have been bloggers. MSM doesn't dictate anything anymore, who cares if the New York Times, Washington Post, LA Times, papers far and near can't summon the courage to speak for Western values? When Power Line and others took down CBS's and Dan Rather's britches, they didn't expose a hot hunk, just spandex wrapped around french dip. By the way, this site deserves some Fatwa's, why not start posting on Iranian, Eygptian, Saudi, Pakistani newspaper websites? I'm thinking letters to the editors or letters to the Imam? How about reporting yourself on a Saudi hotline for the religious police?

Creeping Fascism in Europe: Press Regulation Coming

What is the lesson to be learned here?

1) Muslims threaten Europe with boycotts and violence and demand press regulations.
2) Europe begins the process of outlawing images deemed offensive to Muslims.

Lesson: If you want Europe to adopt sharia (Islamic) law, simply threaten then.

My guess is that next Muslims will demand an end to public displays of pornographic material, something common in Europe. Also expect a demand for the prohibition of Christian missionaries trying to convert Muslims in the near future, sex-segregates schools, and tax supported mosques.

In fact, European Muslims are already demanding all of the above. Given that native Europeans have a very low birthrate, Europe has high numbers of Muslim immigrants (legal and illegal), and that Muslim immigrants have a very high birth rate, it is only a matter of time before Europe once again becomes part of Dar al-Islam. But I had always supposed this would be a hundred years or more in the future. But if Europeans are willing to cave to the fascistic demands of a minority that is still rather small, it seems inevetable that as that minority becomes larger they will cave even faster.

Could Europe adopt Islamofascist sharia law long before Muslims become a majority on the Continent? It seems more likely every day.

The European Union may try to draw up a media code of conduct to avoid a repeat of the furor caused by the publication across Europe of cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad, an EU commissioner said on Thursday.

Sure, the code will be 'voluntary'. We believe you.

And if the EU doesn't adopt 'the code', Muslims in the U.K. are pressing for one. Clarity and Resolve:

Muslim scholars holding emergency talks called for a change in the law to stop insulting pictures of the Prophet Muhammad being published.
Officials from the Muslim Action Committee (MAC) meeting in Birmingham also called for the Press Complaints Commission code to be tightened to restrict British newspapers from following European media in printing the caricatures.
A protest march from Trafalgar Square to Hyde Park on February 18 involving around 50,000 Muslims would be staged, Shaikh Faiz Saddiqi, spokesman for the MAC, said.

Birmingham, I would note, is home to a notoriously radical group of followers of Omar Bakri Mohammed. Bakri has said that the cartoon blasphemers should be executed. It was Bakri's followers who staged the London demonstration where signs such as 'behead those who insult Islam' were seen.

15 JC Saw an interview with the Danish newspaper editor who started all this - he said his purpose was not to mock islam, but to mock the concept of religion in general - in keeping with "enlightened" Danish and Euro modern tradition. (I am serious!) He/they are the very same people who would put Piss Christ on the cover of a magazine - as a mocking joke and social commentary. The artists covered the Danish political spectrum - from what passes as conservative in Denmark to the left. This was done in Sept with no visible outrage. Later, a Danish iman took the 12 cartoons along with 3 additional very offensive ones (that he would say where they came from)to show around the ME. The reaction today is staged - deliberately fanned by islamists as a pep rally. the Danes and Euros didn't expect this - it caught them by surprise. Screw them both! They deserve each other.

French Newspaper Caves to Muslim Threats of Violence, Fires Editor (Updated)

How else do you interpret the news that the French newspaper France Soir, which published blasphemous cartoons of Muhammed, fired the editor that had run them? If not a capitulation to threats of violence by intolerant Muslims, then what?

It's not like France's large Muslim population hadn't gone on rampages before. And if there is a single one of you who would be shocked to find Jacques Lefranc murdered in the streets of Paris, then you truly are ignorant.

France Soir originally said it had published the images in full to show "religious dogma" had no place in a secular society.
But late on Wednesday its owner, Raymond Lakah, said he had removed managing editor Jacques Lefranc "as a powerful sign of respect for the intimate beliefs and convictions of every individual".
Mr Lakah said: "We express our regrets to the Muslim community and all people who were shocked by the publication."
The president of the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM), Dalil Boubakeur, had described France Soir's publication as an act of "real provocation towards the millions of Muslims living in France".

See how that works? It's not the fault of millions of Muslims for wanting to murder blasphemers, they were provoked.

Captain Ed has this:

These cartoons have been privately drawn and published by privately-owned enterprises. That is the essential nature of free speech. The Danes understand that, and I find the European impulse in supporting them the most hopeful sign from the Continent in a long time, Soir's surrender notwithstanding.

UPDATE: Reader Kir tells us that Raymond Lakah is actually from Egypt, which, if true, might also explain a whole lot and remove the fear of violence explanation. But, I would also remind you, that the only thing radical Islamists hate more than a kufir blaspheming the Prophet is one of their own blaspheming the Prophet. An Egyptian would be much more likely to understand the ramifications of blasphemy than an infidel Westerner.

6 The goal of "radical" muslims is the real, read "true" goal of Islam-the takeover of the entire world by any means, including killing of those who will not convert. Islam is not, nor has it ever been "the religion of peace" as portrayed in world-wide media. Accepting "their way, or the highway" by being "sensitive to differing viewpoints" to the extreme and "not seeking to offend" plays directly into their hands. If you cannot be made aware of their agenda and seek to prevent it, it will simply happen while the "deaf and dumb" idly stand (or sit) by.

10 Consider what would happen if an anti-Christian cartoon had been published. For instance, what if a cartoon depicted Jesus firing a white phosphorus bomb into a crowd of Iraqi women and children? Pat Robertson would immediatley call for the assassination of the paper's editors. Of course, no newspaper would even dare to print such a cartoon, however accurate that it may be. American newspapers already recieve death threats from the Christofascists for printing far more benign cartoons. We hear a lot less about it, because the censorship usually occurs before publication, not after. This is sad, because the Christofascists pose a far greater threat to American democracy than the feckless Muslims.

What I am pointing out is that, under similar, circumstances, the Christian Right would behave excatly like the Muslims in response to cartoons mocking their religion. And I certaily did not say anything about the legality of protests. Zealots are zealots. It does not matter whether they are Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, etc... 19 Well, it took only three minutes for Improbulus Maximus to prove my point. No doubt I'll recieve more death threats from Christian fanatics. As for my dying in a terroist attack, well, terrorist attacks are quite rare so he will not get his wish. The closest I ever came was when a Kurdish terrorist bombed a tourist bus when I was in Kusadasi, Turkey. The bomb was made from American C-4 explosive smuggled from Iraq. As for Pat calling for assassinations, remember, such anti-Christian cartoons have not appeared in newspapers. He has, however, called for the deaths of some of our more liberal Supreme Court members. Last I checked, these guys are American. And, yes, the is plently of anti-christian literature available, just as there is plenty of anti-Muslim literature. But the anti-Christian stuff never appears in editorial cartoons in widely circulated newspapers. That was my point. That said, I support the right of any newspaper to print this material, no matter how offensive. And, as a Buddhist, I would support the right of any publication to publish a cartoon mocking the Buddha. And I will support the right of anyone on this site to mock my religion. I was simply pointing out a double standard here. If anyone wants to prove that there is no double standard, then they should come out in support of anti-Christian cartoons as well.

26 It really seems that everyone here is saying the same thing, but tripping over the liberal/conservative ways of saying it. The liberals such as Tom Foster get lost on the road attempting to 'understand' and 'point out double-standards' which do in fact exist, while the conservatives seem to see this as a simple matter of more 'islamofascists'. Personally, I believe that this is kind of simple. As a blog-friendly paraphrase of an old saying goes - 'Freedom of speech is best expressed by the freedom to be quiet.' Meaning that just because we have the right to say something, and that right should be vigorously defended, does not make it cool to go around offending everyone. In this case, however, with people being threatened and embassies closing, I have to say that the damage from these CARTOONS is done, and backing down now is giving in to people who don't want freedom of expression. Freedom from censorship is the important issue, and multi-culturism works both ways. Muslims have to be tolerant, too. If they don't like it, then just turn off their TVs, close their doors, and hum real loud. Anyway, just my 2 cents.

27 Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell both publically asked for all Americans to pray for the deaths of justices William Brennan and Thurgood Marshall in the late 80's. Those were pre-internet days, so it would require searching through microfilm at the library to get further detail. Notice I avoided the use of the word 'assassination' in my post. Regardless, asking people to pray for someone's death is most definately advocating the death of that person. The outcry over their calls for the deaths of Brennan and Marshall was quite widespread. As a result, Pat and Jerry have moderated their stance and now call for the retirement of those with whom they disagree. But their past statements cannot simply be wiped from memory. That one may make fun of any religion but Islam without recieving threats seems to be contradicted by IM's post. And, apparently, even non-Christians like IM will attack anyone who dares to even suggest that Christianity, like all religions, may have their own wackos. And I never assumed IM was a Christian. A hate-filled advocator of violence, yes. But Christian, no. I'm glad, at least, that we can all agree that Pat Robertson is a fool. And I think we can all agree that the Islamofascists are also fools (and dangerous, too). But the Islamofascists have exactly zero chance of taking over America. The Pat Robertsons of this world are very close to doing so or already have. Did Karl Rove ask for Osama bin Laden's blessing for the administration's court nominies? No. Did he ask Pat Robertson? Yes. My concern here is not any particular religion. It is the danger that America might become a theocracy, which I would oppose even if it were Buddhist. Clarence Thomas and Antonin Scalia have both publically stated that they believe that the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment does not apply to the states. In other words, Louisiana could make Catholocism their official religion, Mississippi could make Baptism their official religion, and California could make New Agism their official religion. That two (possibly four) Supreme Court Justices would allow this is a very serious threat and cannot be ignored. This is a threat that fundamentalists of all religions pose. But the threat is much more serious if it comes from a majority religion.

Sean Penn, George Clooney, and others may be terrific actors and the movie may be the 'can't miss' movie of the year, but they will never see any more of my money. There are a lot of us out there that feel the same way. As for your comment about newspapers 'already receive death threats ...', that's absolutely pointless. If my favorite NFL team's quarterback comes to your town, he'll get death threats left at his hotel. The point is a newspaper will get death threats from some nut just for saying the sky is blue. These would rarely be serious enough for the person to follow through with but if some Imam issues a death threat for an anti-Islam cartoon, someone could very well die. Why don't you come back once in awhile? Nobody here has a problem with free speech, but don't call us intolerant or hateful when we disagree with it. If you come in here, you'd better bring your 'A' game. The logic of liberalism just doesn't work. There is a reason why a record 63 million people voted for Bush and until you look inward at the flaws in your own beliefs, your political party will always be on the outside looking in. Free speech is a two-way street. It doesn't mean you aren't going to be called out on it.

His firing of Mr.Lafranche, the editor, is probably based on business pressures. All the same, the French ought to boycott his paper for caving in -- it was not a decision of principle but of principal... No pictures, statues or any physical representations of their likeness. The Jewish faith has the exact same restriction. This is not *just* about the prophet being drawn with a bomb for a turban, it is about the fact that the prophet mohammed is being drawn *at all*. 71 I support these cartoons and am tired of Muslims attempting to control my own freedoms of religion or speech. I am especially concerned about how Muslims (mainly those that follow strict Islamic laws) treat woman. Personally, this last points makes me feel that a great majority of Muslims are bigots and ignorant to the rights of others. When most Muslim women are given the Â“choiceÂ” to do X or Z, then I will be more open to listing to Muslims concerns about cartoons.

Freedom of Speech Breaking Out All Over Europe: Dogs and Cats Living Together

Isn't this one of the signs of the apocalypse? Word on the streets is that French and German newspapers have begun to reprint cartoons deemed so offensive by Muslims that the offending countries should be a) boycotted b) condemned by the U.N. c) cyber attacked d) bombed.

We at The Jawa Report have been doing our part for some time. Vinnie reprinted the offending cartoons here with the caveat that he must receive the first death fatwa.

Our adoptive blogfather The Commissar is starting a campaign to urge the reprinting of these cartoons. If your blog hasn't printed them, please stand up for freedom. Better yet, enourage the MSM to carry the cartoons in their pages. They'll print Ted Rall's garbage, why not this?

We've also called for a boycott of the boycott by buying Danish products. But via Beth we learn that others are beginning to organize the effort with images for your blog. Keep it up and support the effort!

12 Hondo, that's kind of the whole point. I shouldn't be, let alone send anyone into hiding and have Prime Ministers in a tizzy. What's the worst that could happen? A few canceled subscriptions, a little bump in daily circulation from the looky-loos, and some slightly terse letters to the editor? How about bomb threats, protests, nations boycotting your products, death threats, and embassies pulling out? And all this over several months, because certain "objectors" didn't get the response they wanted right away? We can't stand for one group priviliging its voice at the expense of the rest, particularly when it comes to the control of a private entity like a newspaper.
