What Does He Want, Eggs In His Beer?

BBC NEWS | South Asia | Pakistan aid 'totally inadequate'

Pakistani leader Pervez Musharraf says the amount of foreign reconstruction aid pledged after the South Asia quake is "totally inadequate".

Translation: "It's not MY fault I'm an unelected dictator content to let my citizens suffer in grinding poverty, the world just isn't giving enough!"

Don't worry, Pervez, we stingy Americans are well aware that you were dragged kicking and screaming over to our side to help in the GWOT. We've also forgotten that your intelligence service propped up the Taliban, who in turn propped up OBL.

We're also well aware of the outpouring of love and support your nation showed ours after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and, I'm sure, will do so again when Wilma shows up.

One last thing, Musharraf, should he be toppled and survive, sounds like he'd make an excellent candidate for Mayor of New Orleans.

Oh, wait, one very last thing that needs no commentary:

Neighbouring India has also offered to send more aircraft, but Pakistan insisted they be provided without Indian crews, which India has refused to do.

1 Pakistan has never been, is not now, and will never be anything but a state sponsor of terrorism and a destabilizing force in the world, especially now that they're selling nuclear technology to anyone who wants to start the apocalypse.

2 A little late though to be changing horses in the middle of the stream as the only result of democracy now would be the election of an ultra conservative religous theocracy. Which would be OK if it was christian. Perhaps we should have shipped liberals and liberalism over when we were shipping the billions to fight the red bear. I guess 20 years of hindsight is easier to get than 2 years of foresight. What is the shelf life on Stingers anyway ?

3 Ah someone beat me to the whole spreading nuclear technologies meme. Musharaf had no problem spending billions on a nuclear weapons program (and then sharing the wealth of knowledge gained with anyone else who would pay the way) instead of helping the piss-poor throughout the country. And I'm not talking piss-poor as in cable tv watching, enjoying the a/c, Nike sneaker wearing poor, but wearing rags to the outhouse poor. Which comprises most everyone in the country.

4 HE'S NOT SATISFIED WITH "INTERNATIONAL" AID AND RESPONSE! He's looking to get as much as he can - I can understand that - but I have no knowledge of him singling out the US. don't be so quick to associate "International" response and actions with the US. Its dumb.

8 So John, you think that a country that is split 60/40 along religious lines, 60/20/20 along ethnic lines, untold ways from Sunday along tribal lines, and about roughly dozens of ways along political lines is going to just vote in a totalitarian theocracy? As much as you go on about math, you're not really up on the numbers, are you?

9 I saw the speech in which he made those remarks, hondo is right he said that the quantum of aid is disproportionaltely less than what is required. Cant fault a guy for stating a fact. he did not single out any country. infact of you see some of his last speeches he has Specifically thanked the U.S for the quick response!!! pls check below then make remarks http://breakingnews.iol.ie/news/story.asp?j=67991374&p=6799y676

10 Thanks for the link bilal. Despite what the batshit-crazy libtards say, we do not automatically reject any information that does not fit into a narrow agenda, but rather tend to be a bit skeptical of those who are known to be disingenuous. of course, since I haven't heard audio of the speech, I will have to take the link at face value, but with a grain of salt.

12 I guess we don't have enough problems paying for Katrina and Rita. Instead of helping our own people we should send our money to muslims who hate us.

13 True Al, very true.

14 Hi, I'm not a big fan of Musharraf but to associate his governance with the Earthquake relief does not do those who have suffered and continue to suffer any favours. In any case Bilal has made some valid points about what Musharraf has actually said. To equate what happened with Katrina with the Earthquake is wholly unreasonable. At least 80 000 people have died already, either trapped under rubble or swallowed whole by the earthquake. 4 million are homeless and if relief aid does not reach the survivors soon then people are going to start dying of cold. A little humanity please.

15 guys, it seems that all muslims hate but that aint the case. unfortunately, such stories sell. we in pakistan really appreciate the help being given by the west on this one.

16 Again, I have to agree with Bilal. A lot of you guys on the right are quick to point the bias against conservatives in the MSM so you should recognise that the same happens against muslims. Generally Pakistani's have been thankful of the aid recieved and a few Pakistani newspapers had headlines titled 'Thank You America'. This is not to say that most Pakistani's do not profoundly disagree with much of American foreign policy but to portray Pakistani's as ungrateful barbarians is a little over the top.
