The leader of al Qaeda in Iraq, Abu Musab al Zarqawi, has appeared in a new 34 minute high-production value video released by the media arm of the terrorist umbrella organization known as The Mujahidin Shura Council. The Jawa Report has obtained a copy of the video. Images from it are shown throughout this post. A translation of a statement released by the Mujahidin Shura Council is posted below.
For a copy of the video, please e-mail the author of this post directly at the contact information above. UPDATE: You can view the video here, but it is a mother of a download. UPDATE II: Apparently BKP is banned at some workplaces--alternate video downloading here. Update III: Here is a synopsis video from the MSM. The original is 34 minutes.
Several things are striking about the video. The first thing is that Zarqawi is shown with an American assault weapon, and not the standard AK-47 wielded by terrorists. Second, the high-production value of the video means that it must have been weeks in the making. If it was timed for release to coincide with the Egyptian bombings yesterday, then a great deal of coordination must have gone into it. Last, the high-production value of the video also suggests that it was not a reaction to the appointment of a new PM in Iraq. However, the statement released today by The Mujahidin Shura Council is clear that they are worried about it [statement below].
However, it looks more like a standard AK-47 ammo vest to me.
that this may be a sign that the new PM of Iraq has hurt al Qaeda's cause there.
.
Which leads me to believe that Christine Hauser at the Times hasn't seen the video which is about as crystal clear as I've ever seen. In fact, the video runs at 512 mbs. I had to make the images smaller for this post as the originals would have taken nearly the entire center column! If you read the rest of the column, you realize that what Hauser had done was read an AFP story and then simply repeated most of it!

Rusty, FYI, from what IÂ’ve seen of the still images (I wonÂ’t be able to get to the video until later), the web gear Musab al-Zarqawi is wearing appears to be a standard AK magazine pouch arrangement, and is probably not any sort of a suicide bomb as Athena states. It seems to lack the wires and mass that IÂ’ve seen in other bombs that IÂ’ve
researched in the past.
Also, he looks exhaustedÂ…dog-tiredÂ… worn out. Is there any life to his voice, or do his inflections sound as defeated as these still images suggest?

***Just slightly off topic***
I have said here several times the last year that my liberal Presient's PC AG was not up to the task. One of my points has been the maladroit, slovenly handling of the Umer Hayat case. Well the verdict is now in. Alberto got his lunch eaten for him; again.
Either Bush does not want to win the War on Terror or he is just too far to the left to promote people based on ability; not their skin color.

When you wrote "video released by the media arm of the terrorist umbrella organization known as . . ." the next words that came to mind were "Al-Jazeera". I guess they weren't available to do the taping for their buddy.

I guess this puts to rest the speculation that he has a missing leg. Unless of course he has has a very high quality prosthetic limb.
And there he is with that finger in the air when he talks. Al despots and fascists do that regularly. I don't know why.

As I understood his leg was hurt below the knee. hard to tell.
Hey I had a rocket just like that called the Estes Mean Machine. Very similar looking. One can build a rocket like that from many model rocket companies over the internet. It's a great sport you can go as big as your wallet allows.

Like Bob Owens says, that is not a suicide vest, its where you put your AK Clips hommie.

Look at the fins and tail no guidance what so ever. Its a toy maybe tipped with a small impact explosive just like the Palestinians use. I can amek on that looks just as good. You add sanding sealer and paint and you can make cardboard body tubes look metalic, balsa fins too. Some of the larger more powerful models use aluminum fins as F,G H I, J class motors will tear off balsa fins.

Wake up. Recognize Emmanuel Goldstein?
Jesus Christ, how many times was "Al-Zarqawi" arrested, killed, deported, escorted and wounded in the past? Stop propagating the propaganda.
Wake up, you slaves.

Questions:
First, what is the Z-man doing with a 5.45mm AKSU in Iraq? (the little AK Sub-machinegun behind him, that you ALWAYS see in OBL's old videos) The Iraqis use the 7.62mm variant of the AK and, as far as I know, haven't used the 5.45mm variant (at least, not in any quantity - can some who have been in Iraq confirm this?). Therefore, ammo must be hard to get - unless you don't actually shoot it at the "Crusaders" much - or maybe it is just a "Lookee here! I'm in Al Queda, too!" prop.

Well, cliffg, whatever that little AK variant is, I want one, dammit. But in stainless steel. They are much easier to take care of after a weekend of shooting. Or a weekend of rain. Besides, it will look good right beside my Romanian AK variant in 7.62mm.

What a religion in Islam. You get to hate your enemys. To hate someone is easy. Try not to hate, or dare I say, love your enemys.
Maybe, it is time to love them to death.

It's a shame to see quality American and Belgian engineering in the hands of such filth.
And what the hell is up with that decor? While making the video his wife must have been yelling at him constantly about not getting any gun oil on her cushions.

I still like my SOCOM the best of all, though, Graeme. All these others are just so much junk compared to it. Why the US is not using a select fire variant of the SOCOM is just plain baffling to me.

To be honest JJ, I have a love-hate opinion of the SOCOM (and all M14 derivatives for that matter). I can appreciate the reliability of today's variants, but I can't get over the looks. I find the muzzle to be very attractive, but once you reach aft of the magazine, the gun becomes quite ugly - although it does help somewhat if you add a pistol grip like the Marines have done to their upgraded M14s. My preference would be a DSA SA 58 with a bull barrel.

After looking at those pics it occurred to me that, if your concept is bad enough, pouring a lot of money into an advertisement only serves to clarify how bad it is.

Graeme,
It isn't the looks of the SOCOM that I like so much, but the butt-kicking power of the .308 cal bullet. It is dynamite compared to the .223 Rem.(5.56mm), and is also much better than the 7.62 Russian.
Don't get me wrong, Graeme, I like my AK-47 very much, and I also have 2 Ruger Mini-14's in .223 cal that I like to shoot, but do not consider powerful enough for heavy use. I absolutely hate the M-16 and all its variants. Sorry, all you M-16 fans out there, but that is how I feel after owning one for ten years. Traded it for a Mini-14 and a Colt .45 cal auto. Best damn trade I ever made.

Zarqawi is wearing neither a suicide bomb vest nor a magazine pouch. Actually, I think it's a Starbuck's apron!

EDH, I knew that old Zeke looked familiar. I saw that Zarqawi guy the last time I was in Seattle.
Brad, it has now become your job to snuff out ole Abu.

The vest is just a mag pouch, and the AK is a 5.45. Considering that the Russians and Chinese are still selling arms to anyone who wants them, and that international arms smuggling is still alive and well, it's not surprising that he has one, though ammo is probably harder to get than the 7.62.
He does look tired, but well-fed, which tells me that he's hiding out but not sleeping much, and is probably moving at night and trying to sleep whenever he can. The house where the video was filmed apprears clean and well-kept, so he probably has a rich patron, or even a government official helping him out. Or they might have just murdered the rightful occupants and taken their place.

Joe, ItÂ’s a well know fact Ole Abu is in Seattle. However, he is staying as a guest of Rep Jim McDermott (D) Fallujah/Seattle and cannot be touched. The McDermott residence and bath house is ringed with an assortment of gay and lesbian fighters, teachers union mid level administrators who number in the thousands, and of all things ...Cab drivers. It is impregnable.
I fear it is more likely that Abu and co will come for me here in the “People’s Republic”.

I couldn't answer you delta on why some troops might commit suicide other than to say for x amount of people in any population, a certain amount will commit suicide or be gay etc. That's just statistics. What's amusing to me is that suicide in the raghead culture is the norm rather than an anomoly. You ragheads love to blow yourself to kingdom come, and maybe get lucky and take 1 innocent bystander with you. I don't agree with us troops being over there, but since they are the more camel jockeys they send to allah the better.
