7 The Chinese want to rule the world, but don't seem to be aware that aiming your camera directly at the sun doesn't lend itself to award winning cinematography (unless you compensate with some America-bashing I suppose). I love the image used to illustrate how "China move fast": a tug pushing a barge. I wonder if any of the anti-America crowd will have a problem with the statement: "China surpass America as world bully"? That doesn't sound promising.

8 It reminds me of an episode of one of my favorite TV shows, News Radio. The radio station owner had a book republished into Japanese. Here's a part of a book reading he did on the show... 10 Lauel: The problem is of course, people do not want to pay the price it costs for American labor, to build a product. They like the cheap product, that was built with cheap labor. Like my friend who talks about Mexican's stealing jobs in the U.S, but doesn't want to pay the $50.00 for an American company to maintain his lawn, he pays a team of Mexicans $20.00 to cut it. The only way to encourage a strong American workforce, is to forgo tempting cheap foreign products, and pay the going price for American made products.

12 I agree with DaveC. Nearly everything is made in Asia now, with China the most prominent producer. It is a situation created by penny-pinching westerners and I'm as guilty as the next person. As for quality, it has long gone...unless you are loaded.

13 Screw China! In the 80's Japan was going to take over the World. Now China! I don't think so, the VAST majority(80%) of the people in China live in extreme poverty. They have a long way to go just to raise the standard of living in China to acceptable levels even for China.

It stands to reason you can only keep your population suppressed, poor and ignorant while they have nothing to compare it too, this is why globalization of information via Television, and the Internet are a threat to China, they promise something better.

16 By the time the Chinese actually become a global business power, they will have Westernized to the point of no return, because business is always more profitable than war, and nobody does business like us. Besides, according to some statistics which I'm too lazy to look up, I believe there are more Christians than Communist party members in China now, so the threat will likely never truly emerge. Analysts used to refer to the invasion of Taiwan by China as "The million man swim" because China did not have the logistical means to get soldiers on the ground, this has all changed since the Russia-China military alliance.

25 The film is not the Chinese mocking the US. That's an American film. It was made a leftie US director and writer who is basically a pushing a protectionist message with the use of bad 'Chinglish' (which he wrote). "American film mocks China at Sundance" would be closer to the mark.

27 I may be wrong, but I think a lot of people are misreading China's military buildup. To the Chinese, how they are perceived is very important, this is the concept of "face", i.e. "saving face", "losing face", etc.. They know that as long as they cannot project military power, they will never be taken seriously by the US, but I believe that they understand that they cannot win a direct confrontation with us, and such a war would be catastrophic. Of course, the old, bitter, hateful, die-hard Communists probably don't care, but they are a dying minority; the future of China lies with the businessman and woman, not with the soldier, and besides, starting a war with their best customer isn't exactly the brightest idea, because their economy would collapse within weeks of the outset of hostilities.
